Once I turned 55, I began going once a month as a way to help my circulation and general well-being. I noticed in my 50's that I was having more instances of lower back pain and tight knots in the shoulders that wouldn't work themselves out. When I began seeing Susan once a month, the shoulder tightness was greatly reduced and my lower back issues became less frequent. (She works the knots out, but over the next four weeks some of them come back before I see her again! Now that I see her regularly, the knots are not as many and not as bad.) I am sure that having a massage once a month has helped me avoid issues whereby I would need to see doctors and physical therapists. She is preventative medicine! Susan gives great deep tissue massages and always asks if there are any areas that I want her to focus on. She provides a quiet room with background instrumental music. I really enjoy the heated massage table and the pillow she puts under my ankles and knees for extra comfort while on the flat, padded table. Susan is very knowledgeable about the different muscles and therapeutic massage techniques. She's a very kind and calm person, just the kind of person you want as a massage therapist. After the massage, she gives you a bottle of water to help with your circulation and to facilitate the removal of toxins released during the massage. Since my gift card only covered the massage, I even added an additional service so I could leave a well-deserved tip. Unfortunately, the experience after I left completely overshadowed what should have been a relaxing afternoon. Shortly after leaving, I received a voicemail stating that they couldn't find my gift card, that my services hadn't been paid for, and that I needed to bring the gift card back immediately. The message also stated that if the balance wasn't taken care of, a police report would be filed. As someone who had never been there before, this was incredibly upsetting and caused me a great deal of anxiety. I immediately called back, explained that I had handed over the gift card during checkout, and was told they would review their security cameras and call me back. A short time later, they did call to let me know they had found the gift card and that everything had been resolved. While I appreciate that they investigated and corrected the mistake, the damage had already been done. Being threatened with police action over an error that was not mine completely ruined what was supposed to be a relaxing self-care experience. Because of how the situation was handled, I canceled my future appointment and decided I would not be returning. It's unfortunate because the massage therapist provided excellent service, but the checkout process and the way the situation was communicated left a lasting negative impression. I hope the business reviews its procedures so that no other customer has to experience the unnecessary stress and embarrassment that I did.
