I was told we could not fit all 5 of us in the canoe we would need a raft. We decided on the 3 mile trip since it was supposed to take 2 to 3 hours. It only took about an hour. For the price I would recommend taking the 7 mile trip since it was a lot of money for a short period of time.

You have a choice between kayaks, canoes, tubes or a full raft like the one we chose. Once you have selected and paid you wait for a shuttle bus to take you down to the river. We then waited in line to launch our vessels and paddled away. Had such a fun time even with the water levels low in some places. Once we had finished, they helped us out of the water and we were back at the facility. They had all sorts of other activities like a rope course and the price was reasonable. Would definitely like to return on my next visit to Ohio.

Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve is my first state park I have visited in Ohio, and it did not…read moredisappoint. I'm not a hiker, but I found the trail to be a somewhat easy hike for a senior and the walkways and guardrails were well-maintained. There are lots of benches to sit on to take in nature, darling native plants, and plenty of interesting facts to read about along the trail. We saw photos and explanations of how the Little Miami River was used to power grist and cotton mills, paper factories, and breweries. In the information building, we were greeted by the very friendly ranger, who gave us a botanical identification brochure (it would have been very useful during the hike) and introduced us to the turtles in their enclosure. The preserve was quiet, and we enjoyed ourselves so much. This is just the start of our adventure of the Clifton Gorge, and there are so many more activities to explore. We hope to be back during another season when the water in the gorge is flowing more rapidly.

There was a kind and instructive staff member who helped us get in and out of the kayaks. She provided a route for us as well. I did notice when we got out of the kayaks she was thoroughly inspecting them, possibly for any cracks or holes. We already had a blast but knowing they are being very careful will make me a repeat customer. We paid $30 for a one hour ride. I felt like that was a very fair price. It was beaming hot and the route had little to no shade so do dress appropriately if you are visiting in the summer.

We found this secret camp spot not too far from Hocking Hills State Park right along the river…read more Shane set us up over the phone with a campsite and kayaking for the next day even though it was preseason! The campsites had a small bundle of wood for a campfire and they were really well spaced out so you don't feel that you are right on top of the next site. The hot showers and restrooms were well maintained and really nice after falling in on our kayak excursion:) Thanks Shane
