Went back again, I was gooning hard on the crab cheese rangoons but the rest of the food gave me a gut ache . Leaving my 2 stars for now I was hoping for better . In honor of the mullet reviewer of Chinese buffets I dedicate this visit to him , the GOAT

It's been a minute since I've gone to an Asian buffet. I remember enjoying Sunrise Buffet last year during their lunch offerings, so this time I came for dinner to see if the higher price meant better variety and quality. We went around 7PM and the parking lot was packed. The spaces are tight, so we had to squeeze into. Inside, there's actually a lot of seating. Booths, regular tables, and larger sections for big parties. The dining room felt spacious and not chaotic. We were seated right away and greeted quickly. Service was friendly but minimal, which is typical buffet style. Plates were cleared regularly, but interaction was limited. The layout is pretty standard. There's a salad bar section, sushi station, soups in the back, fried items, seafood trays, and hot entrées lined up in steam tables. Compared to other Asian buffets, the overall selection felt a little limited. The salad bar was basic with standard toppings and dressings. The sushi station was mostly variations of California rolls. The nigiri did not look especially fresh, which is somewhat expected at this price point. Dinner "specials" included BBQ pork ribs and crawfish boil. They also had a seafood boil option, but they also offer this at lunch. It didn't feel like a major upgrade from the daytime selection. There were a few highlights. The beef and mushroom had a nice sweet umami flavor and was tender. The green beans were cooked properly with a slight garlic flavor and still had some bite. The honey walnut shrimp was crispy and pretty addictive. The teriyaki chicken was probably the best protein of the night. It was stir fried with a good amount of onions and had a nice grilled flavor. Now the bad parts... The seafood boil was extremely mushy. The meat fell apart just from the pressure of your fingers. The flavor was actually good, but the texture completely threw it off. That was probably the most disappointing item of the night. There was also a lack of labeling or incorrect labels. One tray was labeled clams with black bean sauce, but it looked more like clams in a thin cloudy white sauce with zucchini. Dessert included fruit, cookies, cream puffs, flan, coffee tiramisu cake, and ice cream. Some of the pastries looked like they had been sitting out for a while and didn't look very fresh. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't impressive either. For the dinner price, I expected a little more in terms of variety and consistency. It satisfied the craving in the moment, but it didn't feel like a major step up from lunch. Time to find a different Asian buffet :(

Sunrise Buffet in San Diego is located on Convoy & Ostro. I had very high expectations for this buffet (in-laws go here a lot), but since I have been super spoiled by several other buffets in OC, Inland Empire, SGV, and San Diego, this one stands out as not really living up to the standards at other buffets. There are many options to choose from (majority being seafood), but this buffet does not have a hibachi grill or as many dessert options as other buffets have. The chicken wings were really good and fresh. Mi fen noodles were good, as well as the egg drop soup. Plantains and Chinese donuts were good. The roast beef that they serve (let's talk about that since it was very misleading)... is NOT prime rib as it states on the sign. It is actually chuck roast (which I'm ok with bc i like that too, but they shouldn't declare that it's prime rib). The amount of rosemary it had was overwhelming. Service was excellent. Randy took very good care of us and made sure our drinks were refilled and plates were collected. Overall, good buffet but not as good as others I've been to. I'll give it 3.5 stars, plus great service, rounds up to 4 stars.

Great place for breakfast or lunch Asian buffet. For the price of $16.99 pp there's really a lot to choose from. We arrived at 11am and were seated within minutes at a booth and we helped ourselves to the food. Most of the food looked and tasted fresh since it was still early. My wife and I loaded up our plates with beef & broccoli, seafood boil with corn, dim sum dumplings and sesame balls, fried fish, noodles, fried plantain, Chinese donuts, calamari, steamed buns and soup. There's ample selections of salad and dessert as well. Drinks do cost extra but just a few dollars more. The venue is spacious and clean. Music is not too loud. I wouldn't mind coming back here again. For the price you can't go wrong

Not bad. The food was ok for a buffet so it wouldn't be fair to compare it to a fine dining experience. The service was purdy much bare minimal. My server had absolutely no interest in conversation with me. He did an excellent job of clearing used dishes. Too good in fact when my friend went to the rest room the server took his desert and drink before he was finished. I had to flag him down for a refill on my drink and could never get his attention for a second refill. Our server was a very hard worker and Kept the surrounding tables cleared and wiped down when customers left As mentioned the food was ok . The hot items didn't seem to be hot. On a positive note, they had an outstanding variety of food to choose from The sushi bar was a high point There was so many to choose from, I chose one of almost every kind so I wouldn't fill up on sushi alone. There was many seafood dishes to choose from several chicken dishes a couple pork dishes Not much beef to speak of. The salad bar was fairly decent and kept cold and fresh.a favorite was the seafood salad . I also enjoyed the coconut shrimp, the mussels with the cheese sauce, and BBQ pork, orange chicken and the chowmein. The almond cookies, coconut cookies and those creme filled cookies rounded out the meal for desert I wasn't fond of the ice cream especially the vanilla it seemed watered down or maybe fat free it just didn't agree with personal preference. I was annoyed that the woman checking us out was on the phone, it seemed like an important call I get that . I just felt as a cash paying customer. I deserved more attention. Perhaps she should have took the call in private and let someone who could give me the attention I deserve take her place at the register. I didn't feel valued perhaps that happened years ago and is why I never came back. Because of that experience and the fact that there a number of buffets in the area it may take me another 25 years to return. I will say that if the Restaurant was more friendly and attentive to drink refills I could see this as a good location for my Dinner with Friends events that I schedule usually twice a month, because it has an area large enough to accommodate our group which can have 4 or more wheelchairs. But my concern is that many of my group are on a fixed income and this place would be too expensive for some. Maybe not out or the question for a once a year splurge. The absolute best part of the meal was that it gave 3 of my former students I had in elementary school in the 1990's a chance to get out of the house, off their screens, and conversing face to face with old friends. Which is the reason that I schedule Dinner with Friends. Thanks for reading. I'll see you in my next review.

Food is always amazing soo tasteful, Service is always welcoming, I've been coming here 2 years I sometimes dine in and I especially love the takeout. Honestly there's just times where I don't wanna cook so I come here. Yes it goes by weight but to have food you can enjoy in increments is great. Ambiance is great everyone is friendly and always on their stuff you don't have to ask for refills I've only lived in sd for almost 2 years in Nov but I recommend eating here. Be nice and tip a dollar when you grab sushi thanks

We were celebrating my mother's birthday and arrived around 2:29 PM. The restaurant was busy with many senior customers, the buffet offered a wide variety of food, and it seemed like it would be a wonderful afternoon. Unfortunately, our experience took a very upsetting turn. While we were eating, a manager or owner approached our table and, in a loud voice, accused my elderly mother of serving herself lemonade from the beverage machine without paying. My mother calmly explained that she had only filled her cup with water and squeezed fresh lemon slices into it. Instead of quietly resolving the misunderstanding, the manager brought over cups containing lemonade and continued insisting that my mother had taken lemonade from the machine. This created an embarrassing scene in front of our entire table and nearby guests. I respectfully asked if we could step aside and discuss the matter privately, explaining that we were not trying to take anything without paying. I also mentioned that my parents are longtime customers and that this was my first visit. Unfortunately, the conversation remained confrontational, and I left feeling that the situation could have been handled with much more professionalism and compassion. The experience was especially difficult because my parents are elderly. My 87-year-old father became extremely distressed, and what should have been a joyful birthday celebration for my mother turned into an uncomfortable and embarrassing experience for everyone at our table. The buffet offers plenty of food choices, but after being publicly confronted and embarrassed, it's hard to enjoy a meal. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Every customer deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, especially senior citizens. If there is ever a concern, it should be addressed discreetly and professionally rather than through a public accusation. I sincerely hope management reflects on how situations like this are handled in the future so that no other family has to experience what ours did.

We were seated on the patio with a very nice water view of the San Diego bay and the downtown skyline. Three of us went for the restaurant week menu, while our remaining member ordered cioppino from the regular menu. I opted for the fish and chips with lobster bisque as starter, while the ladies also went with lobster bisque and shrimp louie salad as the main dish. The bisque was brought out not long after we ordered. Unfortunately it was overly salty and none of us really liked it. After that, we waited more than 40 minutes before our main dishes came out, which is unacceptable. I noticed that the table next to us came in 15-20 minutes after us, but got their food at the same time as us. After such a long wait, my lunch turned out to be very disappointing. The breading was not crispy and was soggy, while the fish was cooked well, it was flavorless and required either the tartar sauce or vinegar to give it some taste. The fries were good, but that's about the only positive of my food. Both ladies disliked their shrimp salad, saying it was unlike other louie salad they've had before. The only food item that was good was the cioppino, which our friend seemed to really enjoy. To make up for the long wait, our waiter offered us 2 free desserts. The ladies picked creme brulee and cheesecake, which inexplicably took more than 10 minutes to bring out even though they should have been pre-made. While the views were beautiful, the dining experience left a lot to be desired. The only reason for 3 star and not 2 is because one of us actually enjoyed their food.

Surprised there was no long line outside since today was the Sunday brunch and read from other…read morereviewers to come prepared to wait. Upon walking up to the door, we noticed the closed sign but there was some tables filled already. Asked the young man if they were open or had a private party, he didn't even realize the closed sign was still on. He asked if we had reservations, we did not then he told us to wait outside to be called on, there were tons of empty clean tables, but we didn't argue. As soon as we stepped outside, before I could sit down we got called right back in by the other lady to come inside. Okay. Weird quick game of musical chairs lol. She explained to us how it goes. Drinks on this side of the room. Food on that side. Check. First plate: garlic fried rice (Sinangag), fried eggs, longoniza, Filipino spaghetti, lechon, and a bowl of arroz caldo. Also grabbed two cups, one for water the other for what the waitress said was mango ice tea (spoiler alert: no mangoes were hurt in the process of making this ice tea). Second plate: watermelon and pineapple slices, menudo, kare kare, ube pancake. First the sinangag tasted like it's been left out too long even though it was just brought out. Lots of hard pieces of rice. I decided to not finish it. Next, the fried eggs and longaniza. Fried eggs felt too rubbery for maybe just me. And the longaniza didn't taste anything like longaniza. No spices no garlic. Just a basic sweet hot dog. Maybe I'm wrong and it's just a hot dog. I can say the Filipino spaghetti did taste somewhat like actual Filipino spaghetti, sweet. But not too sweet but also didn't see any hot dogs in there! Now the lechon. Tasted exactly like fried pork. That has zero spices and kinda been out for a while. The arroz caldo had some shreds of chicken I think but I had to fetch for it in the pot. Unfortunately there's no boiled eggs to add but you can add everything else to it like the fried garlic, spring onions lemon etc. Now the drinks. What's up with the non mango mango iced tea? It just tasted like iced tea and if I was told that id be okay. But I love mango drinks and was looking forward to it. The water is the only thing I could say I wasn't disappointed with and only if I didn't have to get it myself I guess would be the only downside lol. I did try to get a second plate. Consisted of some watermelon slices and pineapple slices, menudo and kare kare with white rice. The kare kare and menudo did look like what they were called and that is about it in comparison to what I've had in the past. The menudo had no tomato paste taste to it and was rather bland and the kare kare was also bland. Their kare kare sauce was very watery, missing the thick savory peanut buttery taste. And unfortunately, it was the watermelon slices that made me quit and lose my appetite. It had a weird rotten taste to it. I almost had to vomit. First I thought it was soaked in something maybe vinegar, or I dunno. But I just could not eat anything else. I hope today was just an off day and the food is better. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever come back or even recommend my friend or family to come eat here.

This was my second time coming here. This time I brought my wife's family for my birthday. They are…read moreFilipino and really wanted to try it. Everyone enjoyed it. Obviously there were things they have had differently or things they wished were served, but overall everyone was happy. The food was hot and delicious just like last time. I was happy to see they had different dishes this time around too. Although I enjoyed everything from last time, it was nice to try some new stuff too. The place was slam packed. Multiple birthday parties going on, so the atmosphere was very alive with conversation. It was like one big family picnic in there. Initially, they could not find my reservation, but they found it and accommodated us with a table right away and even threw in a Halo Halo for my birthday. The hostess was really nice and jovial. With the amount of people in there it got really warm and unfortunately with the door swinging open over and over there were flies, but there isn't much they could do to prevent that.

The brisket was pretty fatty, the best cuts were the chick eye roast and wagyu. The service was excellent, everyone was very attentive, helpful and friendly. Soft drinks, fruit tea, milk tea and calpico are included as well. There's some Korean banchan, rice and curry and a few fruits. Overall nice assortment and would return!

I love all their unlimited self serve stations. They have a hot food station but unfortunately most of the fried food kept there are all stale and cold. They have your typical sauce station. They have 3 other stations with veggies, noodles, seafood and dumplings. Theres an ice station with 4 different flavored ice cream. Theres a curry and soup staion with rice. And lastly the unlimited drink station with milk teas and some. Love all their different flavored broth. My favorite is spicy miso and Sukiyaki broth. They have one of the best chicken karages. However, when ordering it, it never came out and I was told that the kitchen didn't want to make it because it was so hot. I had to keep asking for it 3 different times. And it finally came out when I was done eating. The parking lot can get pretty busy. And there may be a bit of a wait but its well worth it.
