Unfortunately, since the facility became Chantilly Heights and the management changed, particularly under Latoya's leadership, our experience has been completely different. It has become an extremely disappointing and, at times, heartbreaking experience. There is extremely high turnover among both management and staff, which has resulted in a lack of consistency and continuity of care. It also seems that many staff members lack the empathy, attentiveness, and genuine concern that the residents deserve. We frequently walk in to find staff members on their phones while residents are simply sitting at tables with little to no interaction or engagement. Seeing this is incredibly upsetting, especially when we remember how much the facility has changed from what it once was. It is truly heartbreaking to see a facility that was once so wonderful decline to this extent. Our loved one, and all of the residents, deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion, attention, and respect. The current level of care and management is simply not what we experienced or expected when we first joined Arbor Terrace.

I appreciate that perspective, and I wanted to add my own experience as a longtime family caregiver. I'm not an attorney or a healthcare professional - just someone who's spent the last decade immersed in elder care, including leading caregiver support groups. My mom has lived at Chantilly Heights for over two years, and I'm sharing based on that firsthand, ongoing experience. My mom has lived at Chantilly Heights Memory Care since December 2022, and our experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Fun fact: she earned the rare distinction of being the first (and to my knowledge, still only) resident to move herself in - meaning she was physically fit enough to do it with me and a U-Haul we rented together! I spent six months researching facilities before choosing Chantilly Heights, specifically looking for a community dedicated solely to memory care (rather than combined assisted living/memory care facilities). After experiences with two other facilities and reviewing many more, I became convinced that a specialized memory care environment would be best for my mom. Chantilly Heights (then known as Arbor Terrace Fairfax) has consistently proven that belief correct. When I first toured, Cre Jackson, the Facilities Director, was the first person to take me around. Cre set a welcoming tone from the start and has remained a trusted advisor ever since. Rachel Moore later guided us through onboarding and did a stellar job walking us through every step. While Rachel has since moved on (as another reviewer noted), my experience has been that from the front desk to the kitchen team to management and care staff, the people at Chantilly Heights genuinely care. It's clear for many that elder care isn't just a job - it's a calling - and the emotional intelligence they show daily is remarkable. That said, no place is perfect. There have been periodic staffing changes (common in this industry), and about six months after my mom moved in, Arbor Terrace divested, with Hamister Group taking over and rebranding the community as Chantilly Heights. That transition brought challenges, but through it all, the team - particularly Executive Director Brian Zurakowski -remained committed and supportive. As the only child of two parents facing late-stage degenerative disease, I can say this journey has been made far more manageable thanks to the team at Chantilly Heights. I believe strongly that contractual relationships should be rooted in fairness and satisfaction, and Brian's team has more than upheld their end over the last three years I've been involved with them. During my mom's time there, she transitioned from the higher-functioning to the lower-functioning neighborhood, giving me a full view of the community's care across different needs and stages. Based on this experience, I've confidently recommended Chantilly Heights to several friends - and two have since moved their own parents in. This is hard work, and not everyone is cut out for it - but the staff here perform beautifully at a very difficult and important job. I also appreciate Chris Mays for sharing his experience. Having supported another family member through a similar transition, I suspect his review reflects the challenges of the handoff from Arbor Terrace to Hamister. I've spent many hours with Brian and his staff and have always found them to be responsive - and importantly, proactive. They don't just react to issues; they work with me to stay ahead of them. Housekeeping doesn't clean under or behind furniture, and even dirt, dropped food sitting in the middle of the room aren't cleaned properly. The level of care they show in the rooms reflects the level of care residents--especially those who can't speak up for themselves--are receiving. Some residents have visible dandruff and grease because their hair isn't being washed regularly, dried crust around their eyes from not having their faces cleaned properly, ears full of wax, and noticeable odors on their hands. Kensington was quite impressive! Upon entering I was welcomed by the friendly staff and an elegant but comfortable atmosphere. Fern, the Director of Community Relations, gave me an engaging tour and even let me enter two of the apartments and speak with a resident and her daughter who was visiting. I appreciated how much time Fern spent with me and how informative she was. The environment at Kensington felt home-like, well-kept, and it was safely designed for residents with mobility issues to feel at home while ensuring support was available if needed. It was clear that the staff were caring and attentive, with an emphasis on engaging residents in activities. One of the residents told me how much she enjoyed the services - she loved the fact that she no longer had to worry about cleaning, cooking, doing laundry, and all the chores she had to do when she lived in her own home. I walked through the dining area and saw happy residents engaged in meals and chatting. Another highlight was the excellent food offered by a top-notch chef where residents could pick one of two displayed meals or order from a menu if they preferred. I liked Kensington's model for ongoing personalized evaluation and care. Unlike several of the other assisted living arrangements I had looked at for my mother, Kensington had the ability to support her over the long term. This is because they are licensed as an enhanced assisted living residence and can offer a higher level of care. The food quality is on or above par with a low to mid-range restaurant. Portions are decent. Some specials are better than others. Seldom have I had to season my food and I've never seen my mom, a self-described salt-aholic, season her meals. They offer two daily specials for lunch and two for dinner along with an à la carte menu offering a wide variety of options. The Tysons Woods facility always was clean. The residents were always dressed neatly and seemed happy. All the food was home cooked. The staff was attentive, cheerful, and genuinely concerned about the residents. I came to know that the senior staff members, Yesica, Rosario, Simona, and Andy, were professionals and followed State and Federal requirements to the letter, such as making sure we signed the appropriate documents and assuring that Mother received her prescribed medicines and treatments. There is a doctor on call. Mother was treated very well, and she was comfortable there. We could visit her whenever and as long as we wanted to. I unconditionally recommend Tysons Woods as a residence for aging seniors, especially those with Dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
