Over the past few years I've come here twice for a NYS inspection of my 10 year old Honda. Once they said it wouldn't pass it because it needed brakes. Rather than do it there for $130, I went two doors down to Mavis and did them for $60. Another year they said it wouldn't pass because the ball bearings were worn out and I could be in danger if I drive it. I called my mechanic and he explained why that makes no sense. Here we are 18 months and 20,000 miles later and the ball bearings are still fine. So, I don't bring my car there anymore for repairs or for an inspection. Here's my advice: when it's a sizable repair estimate, get a second opinion. I am always cautious about being scammed and know that most people are ignorant of auto mechanics. I went to this location on Saturday morning to repair my AC the man who greeted me said it would take a couple hours so I asked to make an appointment for today. My appointment was scheduled for 8:00am. I arrived at 7:45. To my surprise the man working today told me the person who could repair my AC didn't arrive until 9:00 (so why give me a 9:00) I got this information after waiting for a half hour and seeing another man be taken ahead of me. If you take a look at the cars that are constantly here (more like the unbelievably restored classics) you can only begin to realize how truly great of a meticulous mechanic he is. My entire family and boatload of friends have taken their cars there without issue, fair pricing, and always helpful service. The most important thing for a car owner who is dealing with a mechanic is trust. You can trust these guys! Most mechanics think, girls with little dogs in their purses are clueless about cars and can be charged for unnecessary repairs. Well they are wrong. Not these guys though. Ever since I found this shop, I've been able to just drop off my car and not worry about anything else. Mike tells me what needs to be done and charge me the correct price. Over the years, we brought them every car in our family and never had a reason to complain. They are good mechanics and been able to fix even some problems that required sound effects to explain. (you know the kind.. "I hear a sound like tuh-tu-tutuh tck-tck.. do you know what that is?") They are professional, and fast. The prices are right and the service is friendly. Basically their service department place would get no stars from me, but the 1 star rating is for their full gas service and pricing. Their owner or manager's horrible attitude and total lack of common courtesy seriously negates any good experiences I've had with them in the past. As we pulled in to deal with our own problems, we met a friend of ours walking over to get help for her car which wouldn't start. They did allow our friend, an elderly 80-something year old lady, to use their phone to call AAA, but because it was a busy day at AAA, the manager was impatiently waiting for the call to end. We also wanted to wait just a few minutes to see if our friend needed a ride back to her car as it was a hot day out under the sun. The manager refused to allow us to wait despite the fact that there was no traffic in and out of the spot we were temporarily parked in front of. The only car we might have been blocking was up on the lift and being worked on. She did not direct us to a spot where we could wait, she just rudely told us to leave and wait in the mall around the corner. If we had been just idling there and parked for a long time, I could understand, but we first had gotten air for our tires, and we had gotten gas. As paying customers, I think we were entitled to a little common courtesy and respect. Thankfully our friend finished up her call and came out to our car just as we were about to have to leave. All this under the watchful, impatient eye of the manager directing us to leave. The station had been under renovation for quite awhile and recently started back up. My mom liked this gas station because they are full serve. After today, I don't care what their prices are like, I will take my business across the street to the Gulf which also has full service. read more

I am surprised to see the pan. We are very loyal to this station because they are so friendly and helpful. The price is always the lowest on the block, they squeeze you in for service; they have always done a great job for us and charged a reasonable price. a full service gas and car repair shop for your wheels and of course to get gas. it's nicely located on central ave in scarsdale with a honest repair shop that doesn't try to push unnecessary service or repairs that you don't need and gas prices are not bad either. the folks who work here are friendly from the dude who pumps gas to the mechanics . while i was here for gas i notice some antifreeze leaking, to be honest the guy who works here notice it and told me to pop open the hood , a quick check he saw that there was no broken hose , etc , just the antifreeze reservoir was not closed properly, which cause the problem, he refused any money . from the assorted cars in the lot for service and repairs it seems that folks like this service station . when i am in scarsdale this is my go to gas station when it's time to filler up. read more

I've never been tempted to write a review purely out of anger, but the treatment I received from one of the employees was so outrageous that I feel a need to perform a public service and warn others The work itself was fine, let me say. They had done some work on the car before so it was brought back in when a light came on. They checked and turned it off, and charged an exorbitant rate for it. I asked on the phone why it cost so much, and without paying any attention to the fact that this is a loyal paying customer, she rudely laughed at me and ignored me. At the shop I calmly said I had had the same thing happen with my usual mechanic at home, and the woman taunted and insulted me. She told me I was acting like a little child and I could go wherever I wanted next time. I was shocked she would speak to a paying customer simply expressing displeasure with the rates in such an uncouth fashion - I was not refusing to pay or raising my voice, but saying I have had this happen before, and I was displeased with the cost. I still am, but I'm far more upset that they would employ anyone who would speak to a stranger in such a way, whether I was right or wrong. I will absolutely never step foot in there again. read more

Was there for gas this afternoon. As I was waiting in line a car started backing up toward my car. I honked the horn to alert them and the guy in the car slammed it into parked. The car violently rocked back and forth as the guy jumped out if the car, came toward me and screamed "I f'ing work here and I know how to back up". He didn't abbreviate the f'ing like I did and was so out of control you would have thought I ran over his grandmother rather than tooted the horn at him. His name is JT according to his co-worker. Shame on the owner for tolerating this type of abuse toward customers. And I've been taking my car over their for years I saved a lot of money compared to other mechanic shops that rape you and lie to you and say something is wrong when it's not . The owner, Mike, is a one-of-a-kind, excellent mechanic with excellent communication skills as well, which means he listens. Mike's garage is excellent with all makes and ages of cars (he services all kinds of classic models, and you will see them in his lot, kinda like a small car show). The communication skills I referenced above means Mike can diagnose problems quickly based upon even my terrible descriptions of what might be going on. Importantly, when I explain that my older-model car is not a long-term "keeper," Mike is there with lower-cost options for fixing the problem. And the pricing is always very fair -- no surprises. The full service gas is reasonably priced: the best alternative to the long lines at the Hess (old name) down the street which is slightly lower priced. For mechanical service, the work has always been high quality, on time and fairly priced. Always at a significant discount to dealer prices. I was recommended to this shop by a friend who goes there and I'm very pleased with their service and honesty. Being an owner of a classic car also convinced me to come here for that vehicle as well since it is so hard to find someone to work on those cars. Mike knows his stuff as do his employees. The only thing negative I have to say is there are a few things he doesn't do at the shop and has to give the job to an outside source to do. One of them is alignments. I took my Volvo in the other day and found out he had to take it to someone near the center of Scarsdale to do the job. I had no problem with that, but when I got my car back the passenger door was covered in grime and was pushed in and broken in one corner and it had obviously been pulled apart for what reason I don't know. There was no reason for anyone to be doing anything with my door. I don't hold Mike at fault, but he should not be using whom ever he did for outside work after something like this happened. A shame that the person who did it didn't speak up and reimburse me for the cost of fixing it. So I recommend coming to Mike but if he wants to outsource a job don't let him, at least not for alignments. read more
