I tried to get my tank refilled via online service request and noticed a message that I would be charged $140.00 fee for a "leak check" (this should be a FREE part of your service!) They also charge $97.00 for a yearly tank rental (120 gallon). In addition to the normal fill rates (which are higher than competitors), they also charge a $15 hazmat fee and an $8.00 fuel recovery fee. When you cancel your service, they charge more fees! - $119 for a "service dispatch fee" and then another $299.00 for a tank removal fee!!! Just for comparison, Irving Energy just recently started a yearly tank rental fee of $39.00 and NO hazmat fees - their install also includes a FREE site-leak check, and, their propane cost is significantly cheaper. AmeriGas(holes) are a HUGE RIPOFF and should be avoided!!!!

Evidently Independence…read morePropane and Mark Delahanty didn't get the memo that they aren't supposed to care about customer service and whether or not folks run out of propane for heating their homes in mid January. I called Mark in a panic because I'd been trying for a week to get a propane delivery from Amerigas, with whom we've done business for 3 years. We were on automatic delivery, but Amerigas wouldn't schedule a delivery , even though our tanks were down to 13% capacity (and they told us to notify them if we got below 30%). They act like a bureaucratic dinosaur that can't get out of its own way. You have to deal with a nationwide call center and can never reach the same person twice. It was frustrating and infuriating beyond belief. I finally gave up, sent a certified letter to Amerigas telling them to remove their 3 100-gallon tanks, and scheduled a visit with Mark from Independence. Mark was willing to come out the next day. He and his associate installed 3 tanks, hooked everything up, tested for leaks, lit our pilots and was on his way to the next job in the space of about one hour. Independence has remote monitoring and actually talks to their customers...no more mega call centers to deal with, no Covid-19 excuses, no bureaucracy...just good old customer service and American work ethic. ..just when I thought they were extinct! What a pleasure to deal with Mark Delahanty and Independence Propane.

Joe at Wilson, was scheduled at noon yesterday to give me an estimate for the same work scope. The appointment time was noon, confirmed by text message the week prior. When noon came and went, I finally called at 12:30, only to be told, he had no record of an appointment and was still in his office. Definitely not what I wanted to hear after taking the day off specifically for his visit. It put a bad taste in my mouth and made me wonder if this was SOP for all related type companies. My furnace stopped on the coldest day of the year. I had gas in my tank so i called my furnace tech. no gas was flowing from the Amerigas tanks, so i ordered a fill up, thinking maybe my gage was off. Amerigas filled my tank and still no gas flowed. We learned that the old obsolete pressure regulator was frozen and Amerigas doesn't check these things to insure their customers don't die in their sleep. While I had been asking this Amerigas to replace my rusty tanks, they ignored my requests and left me with rusty Junk in the yard and an obsolete regulator. This crappy customer service is dangerous! Now the rest of the story: I waited until my tanks was nearly empty and called them to remove the rusty unsafe tank and regulator. The rudest tech ever removed the Junk while showing so much attitude... Amerigas then charged me for removing their Junky rusty freezing-up, non-working tanks. These tanks are rented. They were not mine, and they don't even maintain the things. I believe this outfit prays on old people, thinking we won't complain. taking advantage of the elderly! There are always notes to contact me. That much is true. However, the drivers sometimes don't read them. Sometimes ignore them. Sometimes incorrectly interpret them. Our former oil company (a larger company that bought our previous local provider,) gave us a very high quote with no options. We called X-Press Energy and the next day, Rob came by. Our tank, being in the basement was a tricky install. When their technicians arrived, they were able to make the necessary adjustments, install the new tank and remove the old tank all in one day.
