This was my first time visiting since they entered new ownership, and I was happy to find that not much has changed! It is best to go early if you can for the best chance of getting everything you want. I purchased two apple fritters and a glazed donut for a little over $8. The speciality donuts seem bigger and perfect for sharing. I was able to enjoy mine for a few days and it remained soft and delicious! If you'd asked me to guess where the best reviewed donut place in South Carolina would be, I would definitely have said Charleston area. Or maybe Greenville. But Yelp, among others, apparently decided that this is the place, in Gaffney, SC. It is attached to a fairly worn down gas station, and one is greeted by bible verses at the door. I probably sold myself short by hiking first and arriving a half hour before closing as they were sold out of what I assume was a much better variety. I took a danish and was offered a free glazed donut as a Father's Day special despite not being a father. Realistically, I think they just wanted to clear out inventory. I paid in cash and kept getting offered more than the correct amount of change. Have to say though, it was a remarkably delicious cream in that danish. I wish I'd been able to try more flavors, but what I found is pretty much the archetype of a little donut place in South Carolina. read more

Ran in to grab donuts before an early morning soccer game. Sadly, we couldn't eat the fritters-they were too stale and just didn't taste good . They should have been discounted with a sign that they were not freshly made. Wishing I had bought a box of Entemann's chocolate donuts at the grocery store instead. Traveled with my daughter to Sunny's Doughnuts! She had a ten dollar gift certificate. Unfortunately it had expired. The nice lady that waited on her decided to honor it anyway! I thought that was very nice and commendable! My daughter had no idea what the expiration date on the certificate was because it wasn't printed on it. I respect businesses that honor their obligations to their customers in circumstances like this and I recommend them highly! read more

I am a huge fan of locally owned hole in the wall places. That's why I refuse to give this anything less than 5 stars. But these weren't the best donuts I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, they were good! The chocolate frosted log with cream was a just a bit stale. And the sugar coated donut was delicious. My wife's cinnamon crumble was good too. The place feels a little dirty and run down but that's ok with me. All of this at a super affordable price and great customer service. When I am back in the area I will do again and try something else! read more

They had a variety of flavors, I ended up getting 2 glazed but the gal working gave me a raspberry filled cuz I was having a hard time deciding! She couldn't have been any nicer. I lived in Gaffney for about 2 years with my parents before moving out to Charleston for work. I always look forward to coming back home and getting my absolute favorite donut, the maple bacon donut from Sunny's. I came back this weekend and it was one of my first stops. I got there and found out that it is under new management. I was utterly disappointed by the changes they made. The maple bacon donut now has strips of microwave Oscar Mayer bacon on it instead of the thick cut hickory smoked bacon crumbles it used to be topped with. On top of that the apple fritters now taste dry and no longer have the light and fluffy dough with the slightly crisp outer layer and succulent apple chunks inside. Needless to say I miss the old ownership and truly hope that the new management comes to their senses and brings it back to what the establishment once was. read more

Move over Krispy Kreme, I've found somebody new! Gaffney has a little donut shop next to a gas station, and the donuts are amazing! Chocolate old fashioned donuts, blueberry old fashioned and pink strawberry old fashioned, coconut covered glazed donuts, oh my! My husband's strawberry donut was pink all the way through and tasted like a STRAWBERRY! I finally had a coconut covered glazed donut that I haven't been able to get at all since leaving California. Huge fritters, huge cinnamon rolls, luscious bear claws, donuts plain, glazed, with sprinkles. Just leave me here to do naughty, indulgent things with these donuts and I'll be happy! Stopped in today for the first time. So glad I did. Sunny's Doughnuts is best doughnuts I ever eaten. And I have eaten many. She has a wide variety of all kinds. I got a Strawberry Shortcake Doughnuts (shown in picture). It is awesome. The cream is great, not sure what it is exactly but not just plain whip cream. My husband found his new favorite, Maple Bacon Doughnut. We got a few more kinds. Ended up with 10 treats and our bill with tip was $15. The lady that helped us was super sweet. You should definitely stop in and give it a try. Way better than any doughnut I've ever had. read more

We never get enough Sunny's Donuts! Everything is delicious--and the selection is amazing! We still can't believe they will freshly fill your donut with a flavored cream on request. The service is always incredibly friendly. While all the varieties are excellent, we recommend you try the old-fashioned donuts--which come in plain, chocolate, blueberry and strawberry varieties. Mr. Sunny stepped foot into the donut world back in 1987 where he started making donuts at the age of 28. Fast forward to 2020 and he has brilliantly created the absolute best buttermilk bar donut I have ever bit into in my entire life. This is the all mighty of them all. The sensation is indescribable when it hits. Extra tender and crumby, this is how a buttermilk bar should present itself. Crumb bits were just flaking off after every bite. The middle had a vanilla, lemony cream infused which I've never experienced. This bar was seriously melting away in my hands before it even touched my tongue it was so delicate. The size of this puppy was XL compared to all other chihuahua buttermilk bars I've had. Priced wickedly generous at only $2.25 per bar, I can double/triple/maybe even quadruple up. Sunny's opened up shop in 2010 and since opening has received zero complaints and negative feedback is at zilch. Earning a full five star rating on Yelp, that's a big time feat. Only Mr. Sunny knows how to make donuts in this particular traditional manner. There's no one else around that makes donuts or comes close to matching his special style. No new technology is being used - this shop is as old fashioned as they come. Starting each day dark and early at 12:30 AM, he makes everything in house from scratch including the flour and dough. Apple fritters finish at around 5:00 AM and are enjoyed best at that exact time. Pure perfectionist, his apple fritters are moist in the inside and crispy on the out. The apple fritters here go on my Mt. Rushmore for all time fritter donuts. The soft and crunchy has been perfected down to the science. Unlike ordinary donut places, Sunny keeps shop open till 7:00 PM which was when I went in to get the goods. As a matter of fact, he kept doors open 10 minutes after close because I was running late and he had an awesome box ready for me upon arrival - what a guy. He then heads home for a quick nap and then it's back to the regular scheduled programming at 12:30 AM to start the new batch for the day. Mr. Sunny will have to retire one day and doesn't know if he'll be able to pass on the tradition. So enjoy it now he suggests as he stands by his words that nobody makes donuts like this anymore. Located in a tiny country like town off the freeway in South Carolina, it's attached to a convenient store and a mini BP gas station, this is a true diamond in the rough. People from all over visit including Texas and California. It's voted the #1 donut shop in SC. To this day, I can confidently say that this is my favorite old school/old fashioned donut shop. I didn't even get my donuts early in the morning, I got them after closing when they've been sitting out all day and they were still pristine. Just goes to show how high quality and good these actually are. The buttermilk bar is my childhood staple with so many Saturday morning bakery run memories with mom.
