No napkins, no airs or graces, just authentic Mauritian street food with a modern twist. We are also proud to be rated the best street food restaurant in Southampton. Here at Lakaz Maman in Southampton you will find food to suit all your needs, from a simple kids menu as we know some kids are fussy eaters, to spicy and complex dishes such as our octopus with masala aioli and pineapple salsa there is a dish to suit everyone. If you have never tried Mauritian food before it is a lovely blend of flavours and not all dishes are spicy, our magic bowl is a Mauritian Chinese inspired dish made with a soy sauce, ginger and chives and it is served with steamed rice and a perfectly fried egg. Yes this is a chain, but it puts American chain burger restaurants to shame!…read more We went for a late lunch and there were maybe 2 or 3 other tables, it somewhat surprising as it is located in (what I think is) the downtown area of Southampton. We were greeted right away and we could sit anywhere. The dining area is large and is intended to reflect the American '50s era diners... I love the British take on Americana, it's so cute! In Milwaukee terms it was definitely "kitschy." The view of the castle wall remnants and new architecture was amazing! My husband and I ordered a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and chicken tenders to share. WOW! This was most definitely one of the best burgers I have ever eaten!! In England, the meat is locally sourced - and cows are happy. This is most definitely reflected in the quality of the food. Presentation was also perfect. Chicken tenders were also amazing, not greasy and amazing light breading. The house beer, "Byron Beer," was my husband's favorite of all 10 days we spent in England. It was light yet really flavorful! Even a non-beer drinker would like it. Our waitress was so sweet, it was fun talking to her. I wish I knew their burger recipe secret so I could replicate it at home - I really think it has to do with the fresh ingredients :) I would most definitely come here again and would try other locations as well. 5 stars!

What a gem! We are sad we found this at the end of our vacation. It's a beautiful pub and gardens,…read morestaff was all very pleasant and helpful and the food was excellent. We arrived mid-day on a Friday so it was not busy and we had our choice of table. After walking around the wildlife park we were chilled so sat in the bar directly in front of the fire. The quiet murmur of the other patrons, some music playing softly from the restaurant, a couple of drinks and warmth of the fire - I almost couldn't get my husband to leave. He's from the UK but has been living in the states for 30 years and this is exactly what he has missed. We had a nice chat with one of the managers, unfortunately I didn't get his name, and he showed us the horses grazing in the pasture out back. We both had the steak and ale pie on special, it was beautifully prepared and tasty. We were checked on several times to make sure we had everything we needed. This will be at the top of our list to return to on our next visit.

Friendly staff, good food, good range of beers etc. We visited for Sunday lunch. There is a huge carvery with all the trimmings as well as the usual menu. Pretty good value (for the New Forest). As well as plenty of indoor seating there's a large beer garden and a well kept (and fenced) play area for the kiddies. Space for a functions marquee too! Car parking is shared with the station next door (free).
