Nice and caring staff. Great experience all the way through - from my first call to book to my visit with the hygienist and dentists. They gave me alternate X-rays when I had trouble with the normal process and we had a genuine conversation about concerns and questions, of which they provided me options with my teeth that no other dentist had ever mentioned (bonding, permanent retainer). I would say don't both with this dentist. I started going here in 2013. The reason I started coming here was that Dr Kim was all business. They always could "fit you in". I paid cash and they give a discount. I have recommended this practice to many, many people. She didn't talk a lot and she was in and out. My second visit she filled a cavity at the "end of the day". She quickly left and her dental assistants (or Dr Kim) forgot to clear(shave) the extra material from the tooth. She filled it and left the rest up to her assistant. I had to go back to have it corrected. I could not floss. Should have raised a red flag. Whatever... No problem. After years of sending friends and clients to her. At the time I was managing businesses in Seattle. Well... I moved to Alaska. At which point I would come in for cleanings and dental problems. I was living in remote Alaska. I trusted that if I went to a dentist. They would point out a problem. After that first year. I never saw Dr Kim again. I just figured she was a growing practice. Good for her. I almost always saw a different person. It was both for cleanings and broken teeth. Never once did I ever hear anything about gum issues. Well I went in last June for a cleaning. It had been awhile. It was Covid. It was longer then it should have been... It was Covid. Nothing was pointed out to be concerned about. It was a cleaning... it had been a long year. I went in this January to get a broken tooth fixed. I ACTUALLY saw Dr Kim. Shocker. She said I needed a crown and that I had some dental pockets. That I should see a Dr she recommended. I would probably need some antibiotics. She gave me a crown. Which they do in office. The crown feels like sand paper. Anyway, I went to the doctor she recommended. Well... Apparently I need 8000 dollars worth or dental rehabilitation. Laser surgery. The Dr she recommended said "good thing you don't need any teeth removed".... what!?!? don't waste your time. Dr Kim's "aloof" behaviour extents to her practice. Kathy her assistant is great. Dr Kim. Don't bother. She is so far removed. I would actually recommend a dentist that would like to know your name... and might say it during your visit. read more

Let's face it- choosing a healthcare provider sucks. Choosing a dentist? Double sucks. It's as if most of them: A) Secretly have a desire to drill everyone's teeth with those epic drills you always hear while waiting in the lobby (their DDS stands for Death Drill Surgeon), or B) Are trying to find ways to empty your wallet, like a mechanic ("So, your tibula shambombula in the eigth quadrant of your enamel pomdifulous needs removing." "What does that MEAN!?" "Don't worry about it. That'll be $5K.") I hadn't been to a dentist in a loooonngg time, and I knew it was time to make use of the insurance I'm paying for, so I figured the easiest way to choose one was by word of mouth. My GF recommended Sunny Kim since she had been there before. Little did I know my life would be changed forever. Okay, so it wasn't that epic, but I've got ya hooked, don't I ;) ? The two biggest reasons I'm hooked are: 1) The Staff of Ever Pleasance - Okay, so that sounds like some magical artifact straight out of Lord of the Rings, but ever pleasant is the proper way to describe the staff. From the moment I called to make my initial appointment to the moment I wrapped up my second appointment, the niceties were consistent and genuine. That's huge in my book. Especially for professionals that wield big drills. 2) The John Madden Commentary - It's not as trite as Madden's and far more reassuring. Everything from the procedure that's happening to the breakdown of your insurance (Hallelujah and thank you Leanne for that, because insurance lingo is like Klingon to me) is explained in a manner that's easy to understand and not condescending. As previously mentioned, sometimes it feels like dentists tell you something needs to happen for the betterment of your teeth, but you have no idea why. The play-by-play of what's going on with your teeth is very helpful to understand *why* you may need a certain procedure. And even then, I didn't feel pressured into anything. The office and equipment are both very modern, and of course, you get a goody bag full of dental stuff at the end of each visit (woo hoo, free swag!). So far, after two visits and two phone calls, each experience has warranted a 5-star rating; I'd highly recommend this place to anyone!!! read more

It is a VERY long story, but worth synopsizing. It started with the first hygienist trying to insinuate that my treatment needed to start with a cleaning ( a little bill booster for the doc). This wasn't necessary and their methodology to add the service was distasteful, to say the least. It bordered on dishonesty. Cutting to the bottom line, the receptionist/admin. mistakenly input some information which skewed my insurers billing and caused a major problem as to charges. They never would admit their mistake or adjust the costs appropriately. I found Dr. Kim to be detached and far more interested in cranking out repairs and increasing her billing hours. Definitely not a formula for encouraging my loyalty. read more

I have a ridiculous, completely irrational fear of the dentist. A broken tooth forced me to search for a local dentist in my insurance plan. The first dentist in the heart of Fremont didn't work out so well - or rather at all as I left with a broken tooth and promise to never return. Second attempt - Dr. Sunny Kim was/is a huge blessing. Points for: 1.) The lobby doesn't have that awful dentist office smell. 2.) I told her about my dental fears and she totally understood instead of making me feel like a total weirdo for it. 3.) She didn't try to "sell" me anything. She examined my teeth, made notes and then outlined what work she would like to do and what was most important to least important. 4.) Leighanne (at the front desk) provided a print out (in order of importance) of things to be done - and it included exactly what I would have to pay out of pocket. 5.) Then she worked with me to schedule the things I wanted to address now and didn't push for the things I don't want to address just yet. I just had my tooth fixed and another old filling replaced and as far as dentists go - this was a great experience. Dr. Kim was quick and efficient (who wants to spend more time than necessary in the dental chair?!), not to mention kind and gentle. The staff from the front desk all the way back are kind and professional. Would absolutely recommend to people I like. My insurance changed and I reluctantly had to pick out a new dentist. I went to the list provided by the insurance company and chose a dentist close to my house. I was extremely pleased with my choice and highly recommend this dentist to everyone! The decor is new and comfortable with state of the art dental equipment. Leighanne at the front desk greets you with a big smile and is very helpful. She printed out my dental plan with the prices and insurance coverage to help me plan my future visits and work that needs to be done. Jeannine the dental hygenist is experienced, friendly, and gentle. Dr. Sunny Kim was very pleasant, thorough, and really made me feel like I was the only patient in the office. No one likes the dentist but I guarantee you that you will have a wonderful experience here. read more

I hate dentists. Blame my parents, but dentists and doctors were and still are some of the worst moments of my childhood. As such...let's just say that my regular checkups have not been as regular as they should be. Until I came here. Granted, I still hate going to the dentist, but Dr. Kim totally gets that and wrote a small Rx for me so at least I can temporarily not care instead of hyperventilating and crying (I'm not exaggerating about my fears). Office - Super clean, modern, with comfortable chairs both in the lobby and the dreaded dental chair and all the best magazines. Oh, and there's a loaded tea and coffee station while you wait. No nasty linoleum or puke green and faded beige here. Wifi is also readily available. Trinh is the office manager and she's stupid awesome. Remembers my name as I walk in the door (and also that I missed a cleaning...), can handle everything by email, and is really up front about billing and expected insurance vs. me payments. Hygenists - I've had both Jeannine and Julie, and they're both great, both in demeanor and skill. I feel like both of them are extremely thorough about their work and my teeth look and feel much cleaner after they're done. Dentist - I get that some people are not pleased about the face time they get with Dr. Kim. To be frank, I just want to know if everything's kosher and if not, what the problem is and what needs to be fixed, in clear English. Dr. Kim does PRECISELY that. I'm at the dentist, not the psychologist. She's ninja-fast with any major dental work, and talks to you like a normal person with just the facts. Random - I've been here for a couple cleanings, a wisdom tooth extraction, 2 large cavities fillings, and a crown. I expected that one of the cavities was going to be a root canal, but Dr. Kim poked around during the procedure and decided that she could save the tooth instead, which I and my wallet both appreciated very much. read more

Dr. Kim's office was recommended to me by a coworker a few years ago. For the first couple of years it was fine. Dr. Kim did my exams and I didn't have any problems. For the last year, I went in, had a different dentist each time, and had numerous cavities that needed to be filled. Eventually, they said I needed a crown. I went through the whole (expensive and very time consuming - over two hours per visit) experience of getting a crown and my tooth still hurt. The coworker who originally recommended Dr. Kim's office had the same thing happen with her crown. It was at that point I realized I absolutely needed to switch offices. Upon my first visit to my new dentist, they asked me why I even got the crown in the first place. They said my old dentist was very "aggressive" with their treatments and ethically, that's all they could say but they were glad I had moved to their office now. I took that as, I didn't even need the crown in the first place and Dr. Kim's office looks to get as much money out of their patients as possible. I would be very wary of going to this dentist office. Yes, the space is nice, the location is convenient, and the hygienists are friendly, but after going to a different dentist, I realized that actually having a good dentist who isn't just out to make money is what matters most. read more

Pros: The staff is definitely pleasant and Dr. Kim has a nice demeanor. Dr. Kim answered my questions about mouth guards thoroughly and also offered to fit me for a smaller mouth guard at no additional cost if the need arose. The clinic is new, clean and very nice. Cons: I prefer when the hygienist rinses your mouth periodically while scraping your teeth and my hygienist (Julie) rarely rinsed my mouth out during the cleaning. Unfortunately, I was also the last appointment of the day and definitely felt it. I was informed that I had two cavities but neither Dr. Kim nor the hygienist gave me much details other than that they were located between two teeth. Which two teeth? I still don't know. The hygienist told me she would give me more details as I paid my bill but never followed through. Lastly, the receptionist informed me that Dr. Kim recommended that I replace all my silver fillings with different ones. Although I am not questioning her judgement since Dr. Kim is the dentist, not I, but she didn't mention this to me at all. We tried few others in Seattle for a couple of years each, and none matched how well we felt about choosing her and her office for our dental needs. Patient, to the point, precise and her work on teeth is painless. Always pleasant to deal with. Dr Kim has been my dentist for a few years and I always had a good experience there. I generally dislike going to the dentist, like most people, but going to this office makes me feel more at ease. They know my name and all of the ladies here are very nice! I just finished an invisalign treatment with Dr Kim and it went great. My teeth are so nice and straight. Dr. Kim prescribed a night guard to me and after gagging on the night guard for several days, she decided to make me a night guard that only covered my front teeth. After wearing the night guard for a year, I noticed that my back teeth have became "longer", meaning more of the teeth has erupted. This is called supraeruption, and it apparently happened while i was wearing my night guard. I further investigated this realized that when teeth aren't touching each other, they erupt more so that they will touch the opposing tooth. As a result of this, my front teeth no longer contact and the orthodontic treatment that I spent thousands of dollars on completely went into waste. I went to Dr. Kim every 6 months for a cleaning and even though she did a visual check up after every single cleaning, she never mentioned about my back teeth erupting. After switching dentist, I realized that I have two big cavities that required filling, and they existed while I was in Dr. Kim's office. Apparently she never thoroughly checks your mouth during exams and even after sending an email about this, her response was a lukewarm "I'm sorry this didn't work out for you". With my curse of bad teeth due to genetics, the dental chair has been like my second home. For years, every dentist has made it seem like I have poor hygiene, even after I tell them I brush THREE times a day, floss TWICE a day, do a fluoride rinse NIGHTLY, and use a waterpik. Basically made me feel like crap. Until Dr. Kim! When she did the initial exam, she mentioned my mouth full of filling and asked my dental routine. When I told her, she explained to me that some people have a certain kind of bacteria that no matter the amount of care, seem to encourage cavities. Then she recommended a new type of dental care system that specially addresses the problem for people like me. And it's totally affordable!! Wow! After all these years, and I now know it's not my fault! If you want someone who listens, doesn't try to sell you an unnecessary service, is well-informed about the latest, greatest in all things dental, and has fabulous taste in office decor, then run, don't walk, to your phone and make an appointment. I'm so happy I found Dr. Kim's office. I picked it on the strength of previous Yelp reviews, and fellow Yelpers, you did not steer me wrong. First of all, the staff are wonderful. They're so nice and friendly. The office environment feels very relaxed and peaceful; everyone was very efficient, but never rushed, and they always had time for a little chat. Julie was my hygienist on my first visit and she was just terrific. She was great about letting me know what was going on and what she was doing. The office is beautiful. It's very tastefully decorated and the chairs are comfy. It doesn't have that glaring white look that a lot of dentist's offices do. I really do think that it helped me feel more at ease. I also had my first filling here (at the ripe age of 24!). I was very nervous, and I felt bad about it, but everyone was so understanding and kind. They have an iPod that you can use to distract yourself, and they were even okay with me bringing someone along. The whole filling process was totally pain-free and easy. Dr. Kim was very efficient but not rough or anything. I couldn't believe how quick and easy it was. Finally, they're not salespeople. I love that. No pointed questions about whether I want tooth whitening or some other cosmetic procedure; absolutely no pressure about anything. Dr. Kim doesn't seem to be the kind of dentist to invent random procedures or cavities for the sake of money. They just told me to get my cavity filled and that was it. I definitely recommend Dr. Kim's office without reservation. They're simply wonderful. read more

EDIT: Ok Sunny Kim and her colleagues more than made up for the logistical blunder from a few weeks back. Without being asked to, they treated my girlfriend with incredible service and were very apologetic. They provided excellent care and even threw in a few whitening kit. We'll just go ahead and call the previous experience an anomaly because the folks here really seem to care about their patients. Guess my girlfriend is sticking with this dentist! Original Review: 2/5 tl;dr: Really great dentist impaired by poor receptionist and logistics. Receiving a confirmation email of your appointment does NOT guarantee you are on the schedule and getting your insurance sorted out is a painful process. My girlfriend has been coming here for about 1 year. First visit (regular cleaning) went off without a hitch and she felt Dr. Kim was professional and friendly. So my girlfriend scheduled another appointment online ~ 6 months later for another cleaning. She received a confirmation email. So she showed up at that the time on the confirmation email (even a few minutes early). The receptionist could not find her on the calendar and declared that she would have to reschedule for 2 weeks later. My girlfriend then informed the receptionist of new insurance and then the receptionist grumbled and groaned through sorting out insurance like it was my girlfriend's fault. So with her PhD quals 5 weeks away and my girlfriend pulling 10-14 hour days in lab (only 6 hrs/day on weekends!), my girlfriend got to start her week off wasting 2 hours and walking out of a dentist office crying. But hey, maybe she'll get to see Dr. Kim in 2 weeks! Sass aside, if you are trying to schedule with Dr. Kim, I would recommend calling after scheduling to confirm that you are actually on the calendar. read more

I've finally found a dentist that doesn't treat me like a kid when I don't floss. Everyone who works here is always super nice; from the receptionists to the dental hygenist and Dr. Kim. I've gotten some great hygeniests, but the last one left me with pain around my gums for a couple of days. Dr. Kim is always great, but I probably see her for a minute every visit. No one ever likes going to the dentist, and probably even less so when you get scolded for not flossing (unless that's just me!) For a busy professional who wants a professional, quick and efficient dental visit that is high quality and pleasant, this is a great team of dentist, receptionist and hygienists. Not having been to a dentist in a while, but also not having any dental issues, I simply wanted a good cleaning and exam and quick in and out- without all the lectures and without the hard sell on the x-rays and other unnecessary procedures. Trinh, the receptionist, got me scheduled within 2 weeks of my call to them, and was very efficient on check-in- all the insurance and paperwork was already prepared. The offices and rooms were bright and modern with a touch of Asian influence. The appointments were right on schedule. Jeanine the hygienist was friendly, courteous, efficient and pleasant and very thorough on the cleaning, without being rough or harsh with the ultrasounds and picks. My whole family has been going to Sunny Kim for years, and this office is amazing! Going to the dentist is never a pleasant experience, but this is probably about as good as it gets. The hygienists are very gentle with their work and do their best to make you comfortable. I've been to offices before where they dig into your gums with floss, but they are very careful to do a thorough but gentle job. All the staff is very friendly. My best moment with Sunny Kim was a time a few years ago, when I went in for an exam to discover I had FIVE cavities! Of course I was upset, and she was confused because she could see I take good care of my teeth. She ran a test and found that the pH in my saliva was off (or something like that), and was able to give me special mouthwash to help neutralize it. Haven't had a cavity since. When I went in to get all those cavities filled, I was apprehensive about having to get Novocain in all 4 corners of my mouth. Upon further examination, Dr. Kim found that most of the cavities were pretty shallow, and she was able to fix them up without numbing my entire mouth, and with no pain. I was also in and out in less than an hour. THEY FILLED 5 CAVITIES IN 45 MINUTES, WITH VERY LITTLE DISCOMFORT TO ME. I'll let that story speak for itself. This team is great. The only downside, really, is their hours. Wednesdays are the only hours they are open outside of normal work hours (open til 6 on Wednesdays), so those time slots fill up really quickly. I typically work until 4, so unless I want to take an afternoon off, or come in later and stay later in the evening, I have to book an appointment on Wednesdays. Other days, they're only open til 2 or 3. read more

I cannot see any reasons this practice has good feedback. I came to this practice based on review in Yelp as well. However, it started to show 'undermanagement' since one of admin/ scheduling staffs started working there. Her name was Trent or Tren. She was absolutely rude to me. Also she has scheduled me for cleaning even though it has not been past 6 months after previous one. That leads to my insurance not covering the cleaning and didn't pay anything to the practice. So Trent said they have sent an invoice in May 2013 to my home, and she didn't even attempt to call me for payment reminder. Instead, she just add monthly charge for unpaid payment, and charged every month until October. If I didn't call them to make a schedule for upcoming treatment, she will submit to collection agency. In the meantime, she has not done any of her jobs. I'm leaving this practice not just because I don't like her. I'm leaving because they have started failing managing supervising their staffs. They have failed to show profound lack of daily guidance, direction, feedback, and support for their staffs and providing patient service on a day-to-day basis. I'm afraid to be a patient as myself working in medical environment. We have never had that situation. If you're looking for dental practice in Fremont/Wallingford area, go any other dental place, then you're safe. read more

I had a great experience here yesterday. I take great care of my teeth so I rarely see the dentist, but came due to pain. I found out I had a cracked tooth! I needed a crown, which was a pretty big deal to me since I have never needed anything except cleanings. I have never needed to be numbed up or anything. The dentist had genuine concern for me and was really worried with the extent of damage that I had. She started working and quickly realized the depth of damage might be the limits of what a crown could fix. But she was diligent and was able to salvage my tooth! And it was all done in the same day! No temporary crown with a follow-up visit, like I have heard about. They made the crown right then and there. And it was pain-free. Great work numbing me up. I'm a regular for sure! P.S. I am writing this on Day #2, still no pain. I haven't had to take Tylenol or anything! read more

I went to Dr. Kim for about a year when I first moved to Seattle. For the most part, everything was as you would expect. The office is really nice and everyone is friendly. What surprised me, though, was that after my cleaning and x-rays, etc, I had exceptionally little face time with Dr. Kim. I'm accustomed to having the dentist come in and do some poking around, checking thoroughly for any cavities or newly developing decay. That didn't really happen. She looked at the x-rays, glanced in my mouth, and said I was good to go. When I was told I didn't have cavities, I was of course happy about it, but also didn't really feel confident that it was true. I stopped going because I didn't feel like I was really getting any dentist-time for my money. I got the cleaning, but not really the exam. read more

We saw Sunny Kim every 3-4 months for cleanings and x-rays and we're shocked when a another dentist discovered disease in my husband's front toorh. He had to have the toorh extracted and replaced by an implant. Her negligence cost us a great deal of time and money. I definitely do NOT recommend her. read more

Just got done with my first visit here and they are amazing. The office is beautiful and the employees even more so. I don't like going to the dentist (the sounds, the pain, etc) and they made me feel very comfortable. My gums were super sensitive to the point that she couldn't even clean my teeth without me wincing and verbalizing my pain. So immediately she suggested numbing and we got the job done. Since moving to Seattle 2 years ago, I've put off finding a new dentist. Finally I decided it was past time for me to suck it up. A friend recommended Dr. Kim's office, and I was pleased to see that they offered early morning appointments as well as the ability to make an appointment online. For someone who's avoided going to the dentist for this long, the idea of having to call and talk to somebody to schedule an appointment poses a very large activation barrier, so this made things a lot easier. I submitted the online form Wednesday night. On Thursday morning I got a response telling me they'd had a cancellation for Friday morning if I wanted to come in then, otherwise it would be about 2 weeks. Luckily this worked out perfectly. I just came from my appointment. My hygienist was Jeanine, and she started by taking a full set of 18 x-rays - I've never had this done before, but this is apparently standard for their new patients. She also offered me a pair of sunglasses for the exam, which has also never happened to me before. Jeanine was super friendly without asking too many questions while her hands were in my mouth (I hate when dentists do that), didn't make me feel like a terrible person for not flossing enough (she didn't even ask how often I floss! I didn't think that was possible), and made the whole experience relatively painless considering the state my teeth were probably in after 2+ years without a routine cleaning. Once Jeanine finished the cleaning and polishing, Dr. Kim came in for a brief exam after having reviewed my x-rays. They also noticed that what I thought was permanent discoloration to my front teeth after getting my braces off was probably some residual cement, and Dr. Kim got most of it off with a bit of polishing. Total surprise, since nobody else had bothered to do anything about it in the last 6 years! Overall, this was a good way to get reintroduced to the dentist. Dr Kim will spend approximately 30 seconds with you each visit. I believe a big expensive problem with my teeth may have been avoidable if she spent a good solid minute. I went to this office for the first time today and have to say I was really impressed. Jeanine did a terrific job in minimizing discomfort and pain. I would never say a visit to the dentist's office is pleasant, but this was about as pleasant as it could get. As one of the other Yelpers said, there was very little facetime with Dr. Kim, but I presume the x-rays told her what she needed to know? read more

I've had wonderful experiences at Dr. Kim's office. I've been there a lot in the last few months, and they have been fantastic in dealing with my sensitive medical condition. Dr. Kim is patient, careful, and very efficient with time. They are also great at working around my schedule. The office manager, Trinh, is awesome. She's very friendly and helpful, and has been great with working with my insurance plan to maximize my benefits to fit in as much dental work as I can before my benefits run out for the year. I couldn't have managed it all by myself! I also really like the hygienists, who are gentle and careful in their work. I highly recommend this office! read more

Never thought I'd say it but I love my dentist! Bullet points of why Dr. Kim's office is great: 1. Everyone on staff is knowledgeable. Leighanne, the Office Manager, knows what she's doing. She knew how to explain procedures (and why some can cost more than others), and she gave me an honest and clear breakdown of costs. 2. The office is clean and professional. Everyone is happy to be there, even guests! 3. Dr. Kim was so gentle (I had 7 fillings there over the summer). And I know this may sound a little odd but I appreciated that she didn't try to make conversation with me while she was working on my mouth. She also didn't talk to her staff like I wasn't there. She was fast and thorough (even when they were short staffed!). In short, I trust this team. I'm so glad Dr. Kim is my dentist! read more
