The Metrople Hotel is conveniently located near the bus stop (just across the bridge) and a short 5…read moreminute walk. When we turned down MacCurtain Street, we realized that the whole street was under repair/renovation, but luckily there was no loud noises during our stay and it was still manageable to get in and out of the hotel (and the area in general). The construction may have also made the driving in that area more congested and stressful for driving but it wasn't too bad. The hotel manager said that the road work has been going on for over a year as the city is updating all of the sidewalks and streets. We could tell a noticeable difference between the unfinished side and the completed side, with the newer truly being quite nice.
The hotel itself was large and fancy inside. I particularly loved the artwork and decor in the hotel hallways, featuring historical pictures of Cork and the River Liffey in black/whites. The decor was a little older and luxurious feeling so we were actually surprised at how fancy it felt. The hotel manager that checked us in was extremely friendly. We took 1 of 2 elevators/lifts up to the 3rd floor and were shocked when we realized our room would be river facing! The view from our room was pretty cool, being able to see the other side of this little city, the River Liffey, and many bridges. Being on the south side of the building, we also got a nice breeze and amazing sunset view on our second night.
The hotel's amenities were very nice too. We were welcomed with a dessert tray in our room with some petite cheesecake bites, brownies and macarons. Yum! The room felt very clean, the bathroom was beautiful, clean and spacious. The beds were the most comfortable than our previous 2 hotels, and it also had plug-ins for a USB, and iron, hair dryer, and plenty of closet space. Once the construction ends, I imagine this place will go up in price and be even more attractive of a option for lodging.
