In fact, he provided me with more information that any other optometrist or ophthalmologist I've seen in the past. I had an initial exam, then scheduled another exam the following week to have my pupils dilated for a better look. I'm trying to find out if my "floater" is a big deal. Everything turned out ok. My Rx for progressive lenses was bumped up a little bit. I found a few beautiful frames and narrowed it down to Prada. There are many gorgeous designer frames. Dr. Tu helped me choose some. He claims to be very fashion conscious as well. :) I'm impressed that he also took the time to explain all the lens options. He took my measurements. I used my Yelp! discount and he upgraded my lenses with no extra charge. It took 7 business days for my glasses to be ready. He adjusted them for perfect fit and offered me 50% off an additional pair within 3 months. I might consider sunglasses . He can direct bill the insurance companies.

The store had an excellent selection of frames - much more exciting than what I saw in the other stores. In addition, the staff didn't just sell glasses, they had the required expertise to find the glasses that fitted my face. Maybe the frames were a bit more expensive than what you'd find at some other stores, but to have someone who really knows what (s)he is doing find the perfect fit is to me most certainly worth the extra bucks. They were able to get me in the same day I called. The place wasn't very busy but it is quite small and I think relatively new. Also, it was mid afternoon on a weekday so probably not the busiest time for them. The optometrist (who is quite good looking I should add lol) listened to all my concerns. I went to West Ed Mall about 9 months ago to have my eye exam, and then took my prescription to Second Specs at the upper level ( there is two- one lower by Galaxyland as well). I went during a business day- as I had booked it off for appointments- and I would probably recommend that if you want to avoid a crowd as mentioned by others. I had a great experience. The second I began to look the staff were friendly but happy to let me browse at my leisure. They carry some brand name, as well as their own brand. I went with their own brand- and I think it was about $140.00 all in. I have very several astigmatism- which affects the lenses that I can get. So once I chose my pair the gentleman checked and yep- they had my lenses in stock. He had me sit- and took some face measurements- told me to come back in an hour. I shopped, came back in an hour and a bit and we chatted. He was happy to direct bill my glasses, and then fitted them for me! They were perfect from the moment he slid them on- which amazed me as I have a crooked nose and usually am sitting through 10 adjustments in those fancy optical shops. I agree with the one reviewer that I can see glue in the corner of my frame however going onto a Year and it has made no difference and never come apart. They carry a huge lineup of sunglasses for fashion to active wear. I personally have one for when I'm biking, due to it's tighter arms, and another one for 'everyday' wear with a more relaxed fit. Although I do not need it myself, I appreciate how there is an 'Asian fit' style option due to the shorter noses of most Asians. There are a few locations around Edmonton that sell Oakley sunglasses, however none have as much selection as they offer at the Oakley store. They have a lot of different frame and lens combinations, and they allow you to customize your own in your order- before you'd be at the mercy of what the other retailers would have in stock. One thing I found annoying was how difficult it was to identify store staff. They dress 'normally' like the rest of us civilians, and a few times I found myself just talking to another customer. Regardless, when you are lucky to catch a staffer, you find they are a wealth of knowledge. They can recommend you the different types of frames you would need based on what activity you would be doing, and they also offer opinions on lenses to choose from. I even had a chance to their $4500 Elite C SIX Carbon Fiber sunglasses- it felt like nothing at all...but 'nothing at all' is exactly what would be left in my bank account if I bought them. The jackets were also on sale from $145 to about $85; that's pretty good. They carry items for both men and women and their men's section was pretty cool also. They have some really great winter jackets for people who like to ski and snowboard. It you were looking for some sunglasses or everyday ware or for skiing/snowboarding you can find here. I used to always bring a friend when I bought glasses, but the last two times, as my confidence has increased, I've come on my own. I like this place, because even though you're on Whyte, there's always a parking spot. You never wait very long to be served, and the person you get is always very knowledgeable. If you need your eyes checked they often do it on the spot. Their site says to make an appt., but I never have. The only downside, is these guys are quite pricey, compared to some places- but they are on par with some other pricey stores. When you have insurance, they navigate you through that process and make it almost effortless. These are the folks I come to when I have a pair of frames that I want prescriptions in. Located just south of the Edmonton city cemetery and literally behind (north) of Oliver Square. It can be a little tricky to find the first time. I have friends that have found some fabulous treasures here in the clothing liquidations but I haven't found that hidden Easter Egg yet. The layout is kinda like a thrift store but way less organized. You need time when you come here to sort and sift through the garbage to find the gems. Also, sign up for their email online for advance notice of sales and coupons. It's a fun little liquidation warehouse but it could be improved significantly with better organization and layout.
