I have been going for the last 30 years and have seen many changes but have never left disappointed. The patch normally opens mid June and highly recommend calling the Picking Report before heading out. If going with little ones, take a wagon or backpack carrier for them. Little fingers can't pick very fast and tend to get tired. They have a wonderful bakery with delicious muffins for sale and a general store with all kinds of jams, bakery items, honey and anything blueberry related. If you didn't pick enough, you can also buy "We Pick" berries, but calling ahead to reserve is recommended. Lots of picnic tables to enjoy baked goods or picnic lunches. Walking can be challenging on the gravel surfaces, but for anyone with difficulties can drive to the farther fields. There will still be walking involved and no hard surfaces.

And you'll know if the picking is good by following their socials. They post daily picking reports so you can judge whether or not it's worth the drive. We went on a very good picking day, in the evening, and picked just over 3 lbs of berries in no time. I only wish I needed more because it was such a satisfying activity. The farm was easy to find. Google Maps led me there with no issues. We arrived at ample parking space. Staff handed us a bucket and directed us to the currently available picking rows. We then walked all the way to the back of rows 1-3 and found a bevy of berries. After the gathering, we went back to the beginning and headed inside the little store where the berries were weighed and paid for. Fresh berries are a MUST in the summer and these were quite literally the freshest! I made jumbo blueberry muffins and a blueberry-topped cheesecake and they were delicious. The Berry Patch is so worth the effort.

I was amazed at the never ending rows of apple trees - this place is huge! They do charge to go pick the apples, but it's only $5 and that gets you access to the whole farm which includes: you-pick apples, corn maze, pumpkin patch, kids play area, wagon rides, and more! If you are not up for that, there are pre-picked apples in the market for sale and you don't have to pay the entrance fee. I also didn't do any of the kid's play things or ride the wagon and I found the $5 fee absolutely worth it. I would pay that just to walk the premises and take it all in! The whole place is beautiful. Plus, for however many people are in your group, you get that many pounds of apples free (my husband and I got 2 free pounds). There's just nothing like a fresh picked apple straight from the tree! Even the most expensive apples at the grocery store do not compare to the flavor and the experience at Pome on The Range! I highly recommend a visit and I have told all my friends and family to check this place out! ;)

Fantastic you-pick farm!…read more I wanted to pick some sort of fruit while I was running around the countryside near Lexington. Yelp found Fahrmeier's Farm and a quick visit to their website informed me that blackberry season had just opened! Well who doesn't like blackberries? So off we go, ready to go pick some fruit on the way to the Battle of Lexington State Historic Park. Super friendly girl came out to greet us and escorted us to a row of blackberries that she said were especially delicious. She showed us how to pick them, twist not pull, and then off we were! These blackberries were the largest berries I have ever seen! A few were as long as my thumb. They were bursting with sweet juiciness. I couldn't help eating one or two during the picking process, but they all looked so good. I'm pretty sure I picked all of the best ones... lol... ok not really, but had a whole tray at the end of going down one row and back up the other side. All those berries cost less than $20 too! I think the total was like $17 and change for about 4-5 lbs at $3.99/lb. Everyone in the little market was friendly and they had a few things for sale there from their farm, fresh eggs, ginormous tomatoes (seriously, huge, like 3-4 lbs) and various other things including cold drinks. You end up with an open tray of berries in a bag that only covers half, so be careful driving with them. But I had the best time being a city gal in the country and seeing cute goats and birds flying around. I had some berries on my cereal this morning and omg so delicious - seriously the best I've ever had. My bf doesn't think I can eat all the ones I picked. Watch me.

Make sure to carefully inspect the ripeness / color / texture / firmness of every object and open those packages of berries; there can be hidden mold on many products. There is a reason things are marked down so cheap; preparing a dinner for that evening - go for it. Stocking up for the week - think twice. My favorite bargains are when avocados are 4 / $1 or flats of bananas are $3. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd visit daily and knock down my grocery bill by 75%.
