You know you're getting old when you still refer to places as they were several years ago…read more Formerly referred to as Ocotillo Golf Course, Rockwind Community Links located at the north end of Hobbs, New Mexico. Other than an issue I had with some chick in the Pro Shop who was totally clueless and later hung up on me, I have never had any problems with any of the staff here. When I was a kid, I loved taking golf lessons out here. It's always been a nice course. Now that I'm a parent of upper elementary grade students, I've had the pleasure of being around the staff and coaches who facilitate the "First Tee" kid's program. Not only do they stress the importance of fun and fundamentals, but at the end of each session they discuss pillars pertaining to character and sportsmanship like respect and responsibility. My 9-year-old is getting a bit bored with it, but she has learned a lot about this great game. If you're not into golf like many wives seem to be - have a few drinks and apps or a light lunch at the Rockwind Grill. There is indoor and outdoor dining available. Also nearby to keep anti-golfers occupied are the following: + CORE (Center of Recreational Excellence) + Hobbs Veterans Memorial + Lovington Highway Health Walk (concrete walking path parallel to Highway 18) + McAdams Park + New Mexico Junior College + University of the Southwest + Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame + Zia Park Casino Hotel & Racetrack This course often allows fundraisers throughout the year - so proud of my community for that.

Epic course. Great service and even faster greens. Book in advance as it can get backed up. I've…read morebeen coming here for years but forgot I can write reviews. Nice pro shop and a great bar with great food. I'll be back when they don't have tournaments throughout half the week.

Made to order in decent timing. Omelets are delicious. Probably the best bar in town too. The bartender really knew how make great cocktails base on questions about your tastes. Good Bloody Mary. Was missing celery stick. Also made other people at my table two awesome fruity rum-based pink colored drinks. I can't judge golf amenities much because of such little experience but we had fun at the driving range with our toddler. It doesn't feel fair to judge knowing that there isn't much to compare to when this place is the only option for golfing within 100 miles unless you have access to the base or play at the free, small, course at Hillcrest Park.

Disappointing Experience at Colonial Park Golf Course…read more We traveled seven hours from out of town to play Colonial Park Golf Course and were very disappointed with the experience we had. Our group consisted of five golfers who had made reservations several weeks in advance, looking forward to enjoying a day on the course. Unfortunately, our experience was negatively impacted by the course attendant, who repeatedly harassed our group throughout the round. The final incident was when he approached us and asked us to let a group of local golfers play through because he claimed we were not keeping pace. At the time, the group behind us was actually two holes back, there was no one in front of us, and we felt we were playing at a reasonable pace. We politely declined to let them play through under those circumstances. After that, it seemed the attendant continued looking for a reason to remove us from the course so the local players could move ahead. He eventually approached us and informed us that because every golfer in our group did not have their own individual set of clubs, we would either need to rent another set or accept a refund and leave. This requirement was never communicated when we made our reservations, despite the fact that we were traveling seven hours to play this course. My daughter and I are the same height and build and were sharing a set of clubs. We were not slowing down play or causing any issues, and our shared clubs had absolutely no impact on the pace of our round. It was extremely frustrating to travel such a long distance, make reservations in advance, and then feel singled out and unwelcome. A simple conversation about expectations before we started our round could have prevented this situation. Instead, we felt that the rules were being enforced selectively and that our group was treated unfairly. We came to Colonial Park expecting a great golf experience and a memorable trip. Unfortunately, the way our group was treated by the course attendant overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable day. We hope management reviews this situation and improves communication with guests so future visitors do not have the same experience. We will most certainly never return. Hopefully the locals can keep this place running because they do not welcome outside guest.
