We needed a total of 7 awnings and after taking some measurements he walked me through the install process and fabric options. Next day he sent over a proposal that was very fair and also had the flexibility to paint the frames black (as well as paint the existing main awning frame black). Despite having several other estimates we choose Gene based on the sense of trust he was able to instill in a short period of time. 3 weeks later job was complete, excellent service and quality and very fair and competitive pricing. Initial visit was great with Gene. Priced me out to fix fabric on my awning. He came in at about 1k cheaper than my original company that installed it. He was very responsive in the beginning and was the one to reach out to me to finalize dates. After the awning was returned and went to go back up, his professionalism took a turn. As he was putting the awning back up, he couldn't reprogram my remote to the awning. He tried to call the manufacture of the remote and was unsuccessful. He did the noble thing and said to take some money off his invoice until he can get it fixed as it was his incentive to come back. But then I never heard back from him. I ended up reaching out to him several times for him to say he'll get back to me and never did. He even had to audacity to give me the manufactures name and told me to contact them to reprogram the remote. What!?! When he finally decided to come back to my house i could tell it was because he realized i owed him money because that was the first thing he mentioned. He finally came out to me and still couldn't program the remote. He ended up saying the motors shot. I couldn't understand how the motor was shot now when it was working fine before he took the awning. When i questioned it he became so defensive and said "i dont know what to tell you". Who says that to a customer?!? Then he started playing with the remote again and since the awning stopped itself at the end he says "oh well it looks like it fixed itself" and he stood there until i paid him his balance. I was so taken back - is this the same Gene that was giving me white glove service just weeks before? Oh wait heres the kicker- it gets better. Fast forward a few months, awning wont stop rolling. Motor is clearly broken. I call my original awning company to see if its under warranty to be replaced. They come and go to replace it and find a ton of my screws left in the awning from Genes company. Now im asked "did someone take your awning and replace or fix your fabric"? There was no way i could hide that especially since they left their mess all in my awning. Now because someone else detached the awning and never reprogrammed the remote, its possible that caused the motor to blow. So we all know what happens to the original warranty when someone else touches your awning. That company could have voided out my warranty but gave me a hail mary. So its true what they say- u get what you pay for. It was clear Gene only cared about the money and has no pride in his work. Sloppy. I will never recommend him to anyone. read more

Sundown Awnings recently installed a 10x16 awning on our deck in Long Beach, NY, and Gene (the owner) did a FANTASTIC job. The house is newly constructed so we needed an experienced company and someone who would make no mistakes whatsoever on our brand-new siding. We found exactly that in dealing with Gene. He visited our home, while it was being built, to help us decide what would be best for us, especially since we're in a high wind area and required something very sturdy. I needed to call him for questions that my general contractor had about the placement of the awning and, no matter how many times I called, he always returned my call. We ordered the awning in the winter and he delivered and installed it exactly when it was promised (early Spring). It looks beautiful and is solidly constructed. Gene even offered to return to adjust our wind sensor setting if we find that the awning closes too often for our liking. What a find we made in using Sundown Awning.
