We dropped in on Friday night and went out for a weeks sail in the San Juan's. My husband forgot a shirt and Faith met us at their coffee/breakfast/lunch place (America's Cup- right at the dock) with it. Thankful! A nice bottle of wine was waiting our arrival. The room was huge, bed and all amenities so comfortable. Coffee maker with a little fridge (containing juice and real cream for coffee!). Plentiful towels and wonderful locally made soaps. And then there's the breakfast! Eggs Benedict, omelette, new potatoes, yogurt, fresh fruit, and the most delicious handmade pastries. All made by Jennifer. You can't go wrong at this mother/daughter owned local business. You'll love it.

We arrived Friday night and could not find any parking in the small garage, so we ended up parking in the street. When we told the team member at the front desk this, he gave me other places of where to park and said that street parking would be fine as long as we moved our car by 11am the next day. I didn't feel completely comfortable parking on the street, but fortunately, the car was still there when we woke up. And thus soon after, all my suspicions about Hotel Leo faded away. This hotel was fantastic! Besides the small garage which obviously fills up quickly for hotel guests, we have no complaints. First off, the hotel staff could not be friendlier. Although we did not have the best first impression with the lack of parking, it had nothing to do with the staff or actual lodging. We were warmly welcomed and were told all the important deets of our stay. At the hotel lobby is free Caffe Vita coffee and Smith tea for guests, along with filtered water. Heck yeah! They also have this really good coffee and tea in the hotel room, which was a win because we're a fan of both of these products from the Pacific Northwest! We had a room with a king size bed and it was very large and spacious. When booking, we also specifically looked for a dog-friendly hotel in the area, which Hotel Leo is. So yes, an automatic win. We saw a bunch of doggy guests here, and they have a designated dog relief area with poop bags. We had everything we needed, including AC and WiFi. The location cannot be beat as we were walking distance to everything being in downtown Bellingham, and it made for a great base for when we hiked around the area. I also love the historic building, and they show the old photos of the hotel when it first opened in the lobby. I highly recommend staying at Hotel Leo if you're in need of accommodations in Bellingham.

The beds are low, the mattresses are soft - as in two people sleeping together will roll into the middle of the mattress, there are no box springs, and if you have any hip/knee/mobility issues or are simply past a certain age - this is not a hotel for you.

You can also get a free pass for a yoga class! The yoga studio is two stores down and seems so fun. I would have scheduled a massage here as it was super reasonably priced for 60 or 90 minutes, but the last booking was nabbed by the time I made up my mind. Also, free bike check out if you happen to be here during nicer weather. Too cold for us. In the room you'll find quality bath amenities, free snacks and drinks, coffee maker, water kettle, teas, and a decent sized fridge. The bathroom had ample towels and nice shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispensers (simple human). There was a hair dryer (not the best) and a lighted makeup mirror. If you've forgotten something (toothbrush/paste, razor, etc) they have some convenient supplies at their front desk per the in-room info folder. The only thing you'll want to note is that our sink/mirror was outside of the shower/bathroom if that matters to you or your roomate. Very clean and appreciate that pets are not allowed here. I've never stayed on a property where you are escorted to your room upon checking in and are offered an introduction to all of the details. There are small luxuries everywhere you look. Upscale toiletries and fixtures, the smoothest sheets I've ever slept on, complimentary snack basket in your room. In addition the downtown is charming and immaculate. We rang the bell, looked around, called their number, but could not locate anyone. My wife and I decided to use the time to explore the island. Charles called, he had been out back doing yard work. When we arrived the second time, we were greeted by Charles with an apology and a tour. The home is tidy, eclectic and quirky. Our room was wonderful. Plenty of space, comfortable bed and charming. Another bonus of staying here was the breakfasts. The food is delicious and unexpected. I did not anticipate seared sushi grade tuna or oat pancakes that rival the best buttermilk pancakes. And the beauty of breakfast times is sitting with other guests along with Jill and Charles discussing everything from how it all began at the Kangaroo B&B to activities to do on the island. I have to say, with the exception of the amazing views from Mount Constitution, the water views from almost everywhere on the island and celebrating my wife, this B&B was a highlight of my trip.

We had a slight snafu when checking in, the keys weren't in the Dropbox and we weren't able to get ahold of the owner right away. A shop owner next store let us in as she knew the code to the building. Small town, it happens. Honestly, we were relieved that someone was there to let is in! We noticed an ant problem while we were there, and this was late March, a bit early for ants. We didn't leave any food out, and we couldn't find a trail where they were coming in from. They seemed to hang out at the dining table, but nowhere else. We think the restaurant next door may have been the reason for the ants. The bed wasn't very comfortable, it felt like sleeping on a futon but it was a Queen sized bed. The kitchen was functional but very small. We found it more than adequate for a one or two night stay if making food at home. Any longer, you may need more space. Overall, we would recommend it for a weekend stay for a couple. The living room was cozy and the internet worked great! I imagine dogs are not allowed get my allergies went crazy and there was white fur on the furniture. I swear the floors had a couple pee spots, I cleaned them. If they had a better cleaner I would go back.
