The serve was great and the food we ordered was great for our needs at the time. I'm not certain if I would try anything else.

Dee's Drive In - Bacon cheeseburger and onion rings

After years ohand-batteredf seeing the sign on the interstate and simply driving past, I finally stopped in last week and tried them out. I'm glad that I finally did. A sign in the door stated that they would be closed tomorrow for their daughter's graduation - this truly is a family run operation! The bacon cheeseburger was hot and, while probably recently frozen, was pretty good. Little or no seasoning, which makes sense for where this place it - you don't want to offend any sensitive Scandinavian palates! The bacon was marvelously crispy, and the lettuce and tomato were crisp and fresh. The onion rings were very good considering they weren't fresh and hand battered. Some of the best I've ever had considering the venue. I'm still a little upset that I went with a small malt and large soda - I should have gone the other way. The caramel malt was awesome. Last but not least, I grabbed an ice cream sandwich for the road. It too, was very good. "Just made by my girls yesterday" according to the dad/cashier/host. Next time I'll get the dipped one!!!

Come to find out they close at 7 and we won't arrive until after 7:15. I just want to advise that you're losing a lot of business from those traveling home after the weekend or even those who work in the FM area traveling home. - not to mention there's a more commercialized ice cream option down the road for those of us who may want a burger or ice cream after 7PM.

I had lunch at Bernie's in East Grand Forks. I had the biscuits and gravy hotdish with scrambled eggs for lunch. It was excellent. It also had more carbs than I usually consume at lunch. I was driving along I-29 southbound. It's a pretty straight, monotonous drive. The carb coma hit. I'm out of iced coffee or some exciting pick-me-up. I need a nap. The last time this sluggishness happened to me, I pulled over at a Casey's gas station in Cannon Falls, MN when I was driving between the Twin Cities and northern Iowa. I saw a sign for this Casey's in Hillsboro and felt comforted that I could take a nap here. It was a similar drill. It was probably -15°C when I got to the gas station. There were many parking spots in front of the convenience store. I backed into one of them, had the engine running, locked my doors, and snoozed for probably a good twenty minutes at least. I like that no one bugs you at Casey's. Folks realize that it's a gas station, convenience store, and rest stop. I needed that nap. I felt refreshed and great hitting the road. I returned to Hillsboro when I was heading back to Winnipeg. I was driving in a snowstorm and needed to fuel my rental vehicle to make it back. I debated whether I should fuel here or at the Cenex across the street. I went for the latter. This town (or city?) has two decent gas stations. One of these days, when I'm not sleepy, I will either get fuel or snacks at this Casey's. I'm thankful that it was there for my nap and safety. (3)
