Widman's Candy Shop in Crookston has always been one of my favorite spots and honestly one of the best chocolate shops I've ever been to. I've tried plenty of chocolate from different places, but Widman's has a distinct flavor that stands out every time. They've got a huge selection of chocolates and candies, all made by a family-owned local business. My personal favorites are the chocolate-covered peanuts, the famous "Chippers" (chocolate potato chips), and the salted dark chocolate caramels. A blast from the past. Went here on a fine Saturday morning, grab some chippers, some chocolate covered, gummy bears, some turtle fudge thingies, and some black licorice. Appearance - 5/5 - Rustic, clean, awesome...idk what else to say. Old school soda fountain bar (unfortunately just for looks, but still great), local snacks, assorted souvenir gifts and of course more assortments of homemade candies than you can ever imagine...and if you peek in the very back you can see all the magic happening. Goods - 5/5 - Honestly it's the best chocolate I've ever had. The chocolate covered potato chips are pretty amazing, but so are the gummy bears, caramels, raspberry jelly, toffee, brittle, etc (all chocolate covered btw). Need I say more? I will. Hard candies, gum balls, lollipops, licorice and more. Yes I'm being cliché, because it's doesn't get anymore original than this. I've been there as a wide-eyed kid to buy candy with quarters, my mom's been there as a little girl with nickles, and my grandmother been there way back when pennies could even get you bag of your favorite candy. This place is a living legend - don't miss when you are nearby Crookston. My favorites are the turtles, milk chocolate chippers (FAMOUS chocolate covered potato chips), white chocolate covered sunflower seeds, old fashioned sodas (green river and cherry coke are unstoppable), and sour balls... but let's be serious: you can't go wrong. My son who attended the University of Minnesota Crookston kept talking about how good the candy at Widmans was and wanted to go back one last time. The store has been around since 1911 and in the same location since 1919! That alone is amazing. The owner is a very nice gentleman and told us the history of Widmans and the generations of candy makers. So my son bought some chocolates and took it home. Wow it really is that good and I have to say it is the best chocolate I've ever had. If you're driving through or in the Crookston area you have to stop here and get yourself some of the best candy / chocolate you've had. read more

Best candy EVER! Grew up in this area of the country and it was the best part of every vacation to stop at Widman's for candy. Everyone in the family and friends we purchased for had a favorite. Several of us loved the Red Anise, which to this day, you cannot find ANYWHERE else in the world... many candy makers try to do their best and they all come up sour compared to Widman's. My mother loved white chocolate with nuts, called "white almond bark.". And of course, turtles were on everyone's list! If you are a candy lover or just want the occasional treat, whether for yourself or buying for others, put Widman's on your list. This is one of the best candy stores in the state of Minnesota. We have gone to others in Minnesota, particularly the Twin Cities and nothing compares to Widman's. The candy is great, the conversation wonderful and the old fountain store interior brings back memories from the past. Turtles are great, especially cashew (or as George says, Cadillac of turtles) and the chippers are unique. read more

This little candy shop in the middle of no where Minnesota is a total gem! I heard about it from a friend in Phoenix who's parents grew up in Crookston. I was skeptical but had some time so searched it out. BOOM!! Way better than anything I have ever tasted. Chocolate covered potato chips??!! Sure I will try them. Incredible.
