If I can save one person and family from going through living hell I had to do this review. According to Suncrest Hospice the company offers hospice care services with focus on treating the symptoms of disease progression to bring greater comfort for the patient. Unfortunately that kind of service was not provided to my father due to lack of proper assessment of level of care my father needed as his condition drastically changed within 24 hours of starting hospice care. Elizabeth Herrera, registered nurse with whom my mother signed the paperwork with, to start with hospice care, contacted us three days after our frustration was expressed to Taylor, nurse who was visiting father at home, offering three hours watching between nurse, social worker and chaplain, explaining that hospice in general doesn't provide 24 hours help. We didn't ask for it, but considering the situation we desperately needed someone to help with acute medical symptoms my mother explained that just watching wouldn't be sufficient help.
I didn't sleep for 72 hours, tending to my dad. My dad was suffocating and suffering for days and thankfully we switched to another hospice providing crisis care, providing subcutaneous pain management, mucus, anxiety etcetera relief. Around the clock monitoring and adjusting meds and doses to make sure my dad's transition is a relaxed one.
Suncrest Hospice failed to treat my dad humanely while Elizabeth was asking my mom if we are going to keep them or switch to another hospice, not offering to come to reasess the condition my father was in. Extremely disappointing and disheartening behavior.
We had a sweet and caring nurse Taylor but the failure comes from management and much higher. It is unbelievable to see the difference in care now that we have had true hospice care, The Elizabeth Hospice. Their work was exceeding outstanding expectations.
12/27/23 To reply to your reply. How can you strive to be best in the industry when you do not have crisis care, no 24h care, no subcutaneous relief? You are checking sugar instead of helping a dying person die in peace and comfort. You are telling a patient whose insides are fried up from radiation, who cannot even swallow his own saliva, you are telling him that he will not get better if he refuses to take pills. He can not swallow. Not even the ones that melt under the tongue because everything come right back up and he starts chocking. You do not know what hospice is let alone to strive to be best in the industry.
