100% RECOMMEND If you are looking for Hospice care for a loved one, I highly recommend Apreva. My family needed Hospice carer for my mother and we had no idea how the process worked and needed to rely on someone to explain to us about Hospice and what it entailed. This is a very stressful decision to make for our loved one, but Apreva quickly eased our concerns and uncertainty. From the first contact on the phone to the last contact I can't say enough about the incredible team that cared for my mom. Dr Danque was professional, compassionate and was always available when needed. Initially Dr. Danque came to the house and explained the process and what to expect. She answered all our questions and we stayed until all our questions were answered and we never felt she was in a hurry. RN Kaylyn is an absolute ANGEL! She was the main RN caregiver for my mom for almost a year. Kaylyn was available for my 80 year old Dad who was by my mom's side the entire time. He would contact Kaylyn any time he had a question or concern about my mom. As my mom declined, her medications needed to be changed due to increased pain and phycological issues and Kaylyn was always there to help treat my mom and was a personal sounding board for my dad. Kaylyn has become a member of our family!! Kaylyn's compassion, empathy and knowledge made a difficult time on our lives much better. Knowing if we had a question we could contact Kaylyn was such a relief. And if Kaylyn was not available, Apreva is available 24 hours. There were several times we needed help late at night and during weekends and Apreva promptly sent nurses and/or Doctors to our home. The entire Apreva Hospice provided outstanding service and care to my mom and our family. Apreva offers many services and their help does not end after your loved one passes. They are still there to offer assistance like grief counseling, etc. We NEVER had a problem with supplies needed or medications as others claim in their reviews. We were very pleased with selecting Apreva as my father's hospice provider for his final phase of life. Pat was so kind and helpful coordinating my dad's transition from the hospital to my home. Katie, and the team of RN's, ensured we were prepared and educated to meet his needs in his final days. Upon his passing, the Apreva staff assisted us with coordinating the mortuary pick-up and provided us with bereavement counseling. I can't say enough about the wonderful care I got for my husband and support I got from their staff in this very hard time. My husband was a veteran and served in Vietnam and Apreva has a VA Liaison Justin Stofkoper who told me about a survivor benefit for Agent Orange that I did not know I was entitled to and he filed all the paperwork and now I am receiving over $1600. a month for the rest of my life with the claim that Justin filed for me. He also filed for a death benefit that I received. I cannot thank Apreva enough for the wonderful and compassionate care they gave my husband and for having this incredible VA Liaison service. Currently I am having challenges with Appreva hospice. All of a sudden they are cheaping out on proving enough underpad bed liners , rationing diapers. Telling me they are having an issue with their supplier. I need to be provided a reliable , and adequate amount of incontinence supplies for my loved one battling cancer. Is anyone else, has anyone else experienced there issues with Appreva? The Yelp reviews for Appreva looked pretty good ? Until recently, things weren't too bad. my brother has been dying of stage four cancer, but dealing with these their social worker. Their nurses are very unprofessional and uncaring and manipulating. I am taking anti-anxiety medicine medicines and high blood pressure meds just from dealing with these guys from trying to deal with my dying please stay away from this hospice. In early 2024, it was becoming clear that my mother-in-law was in need of extra support. She was suffering mentally and physically and as a family, we realized we needed some advice. Apreva Hospice was the company we heard about often, but more than Apreva, it was the name Amber Morra friends and acquaintances urged us to call. We soon got in touch with Ms. Morra to ask questions and to find out what resources were available for my in-laws. I'm sure we called Amber a dozen times for advice before putting my MIL on hospice services. Amber always made herself available! She has a wealth of knowledge regarding Medicare and hospice as well as end of life care including the option for "death with dignity." We were most grateful for her tact and compassion. Honestly, she was a breath of fresh air during such an emotional time. I should add that she never pushed any of us to enlist her services, but educated us enough to know we had the option...when we were ready. By summer's end, we knew it was time to call Amber and officially put my MIL on hospice. We of course used Apreva Hospice services with Amber as our liaison. After years of declining health and several different placements in assisted living facilities, my mom was placed on hospice care with Apreva Hospice in July of 2023. Not having much experience with hospice services, I didn't really know what to expect, but her doctor, Dr. Flora Danque, gently walked me through the process. Dr. Danque was phenomenal in all aspects. Her initial exam of my mom's condition while at her assisted living residence was thorough and thoughtful. Dr. Danque communicated effectively and compassionately with me and with my wife throughout the entire three months that my mom remained on hospice. The constant communication was done in person, via telephone, and via text. More importantly, Dr. Danque took a genuinely loving and special interest in my mom and made my mom feel exceptionally special and doted on. This was a true blessing. In addition to being my mom's outstanding doctor, Dr. Danque often made personal visits to my mom with special gifts, and she always took photos of the two of them together and sent them to me. My mom was beaming in each photo, and she loved looking at the photos on her i-Pad. Dr. Danque would sometimes ask Liz, one of the hospice nurses, to check in on my mom when Liz happened to be at the facility for another patient. Liz was just as caring and thoughtful. Clearly, Dr. Danque understands that nurturing relationships with the patient and with the family is essential. Dr. Danque, Liz, and the entire Apreva team were there to support my mom in all ways as she moved toward the end of her life. I will be forever grateful for the service and support they provided to my mom, and to me and my wife, during such a difficult time. read more

Apreva handled my mother's hospice care at Good Samaritan Retirement Center and I am over the hill happy with how well they cared for my mother right up to the day of her passing away recently. So, when my dad was in the same situation in February 2024, we chose Apreva again. Sharing this as I am confident there are others in similar situations that share the feelings of confusion or frustration over what path to choose related to hospice care for a loved one. Or, like our family, most probably aren't even aware if hospice care is even an option. We initiated hospice for an immediate family member suffering from a terminal illness approximately 7 months ago. Had a friend not worked for the initial hospice agency we worked with (hospice provider A), like many, my family and I would not have known this was a resource we had access to. I personally thought hospice was only a resource immediately before death. I hand't taken that line of thought beyond my initial assumption to question who knows when immediately before death is?? While our family member is terminal, and passing realistically might occur any time, she still has good days, and bad days and the fact is we do not know exactly when her time will come. With all that in mind, we have received a wealth of knowledge having now worked with two hospice agencies, and our loved one is far better off thanks to having hospice involved in her care. Her pain is being managed proactively, vs reactively, and the time we have left to spend together can be spent focusing on one another, vs watching her waste away in the waiting room of doctor's offices and hospitals. We switched to Apreva a few months ago, after realizing the level of care hospice provider A was able to give left some things to be desired. We learned about Apreva through the facility where our loved one resides. We took the time to discuss the similarities and differences between Apreva, vs hospice provider A. Apreva is a much smaller company than provider A, and they are a local. Both qualities resonated with my family. While company A, did many things well and tried to be proactive, they were stretched too thin and simply could not accomplish what we needed. Our loved one has a rare nuerodegenerative disease, which is incurable and untreatable. Her needs are unusual and at best misunderstood by most medical practitioners. However, Apreva has taken the time to listen, learn and to help us approach our loved one's care proactively. For that we are forever grateful. I would like to specifically mention two individuals who manage our loved one's needs daily, Priscilla and Soandy. Priscilla is her nurse and Soandy manages responsibilities like bathing and personal care. The level of attentiveness, compassion and general friendliness they provide is exactly what we were looking for, and our loved lights up whenever either enters the room. There are many others within Apreva as well that have contributed to the care of our family member, however, Priscilla and Soandy are the boots on the ground that see her more often than anyone else. All that said, our family and others have to keep our expectations in check. Hospice companies are not perfect, and the time of life when they come into the picture is unfortunately a part of life that most people avoid discussing, until they have to force a sad reality. However, as misunderstood at best as their industry is, my family and I appreciate having Apreva on our side to make whatever time we have remaining with our loved one what it should be, as pain free as possible and enjoyable. In addition to the things mentioned related to Soandy, and Priscilla, we've recently engaged her doctor as well, Dr Danque. Because of the unique rare disease our loved one has, she needs a doctor that takes time to understand stable and comfortable are the primary goals. Fewer medications and dosages are better. Dr Danque helped avoid a medication change that could've disrupted what is currently a stable and positive time. Her compassion, knowledge and situational awareness understanding the bigger picture further reinforce we made the right decision when we changed to Apreva. For what it's worth, hopefully this helps others find a partner like we did, that can help make their loved one's remaining time as pain free and meaningful as possible. read more

My circumstance with my father was very complicated. Though I attempted to engage them earlier due to reasons beyond my control we it wasn't possible to use them at the time. Apreva stayed committed to my circumstance and when the time came was able to deliver the most amazing and compassionate care possible for my father and family. I am an administrator for an assisted living facility and first learned about Apreva hospice as they were recommended to us when my aunt was in need of additional end-of-life care/support. We have worked with most home-health companies in the San Diego area and I can attest that Apreva hospice is the best. At the end of life, prompt care and communication are paramount - as it is a tenuous time for the patient and families. Priorities are managing pain/discomfort, closely monitoring changes, quick access to medicine and care/recommendations - Apreva receives an A+ across the board. Dr. Danque has been the only MD that I have known to make home visits upon admission. She takes in to account family wishes, providing personalized and compassionate care, something that gives me peace of mind as an administrator. He was placed in Hospice last April. Obviously he was not in good shape, but was able to make a slight come back. Not only did they treat him with respect and honor, they went above and beyond to offer and organize a pinning ceremony to honor his service in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. They not only helped him but the support for me was anything but heaven sent. He passed away at 96 years old last week and the team of angels that were sent was nothing short of miraculous. This was our first experience with a hospice company and after severing our relationship with them, it will be my last with Apreva. In a nutshell, we were mislead (if not outright lied to) about how their services would work and we have the documentation that Apreva themselves provided to prove it. My wife and I are now in a position where I have roughly three months of life left and we have to start from scratch to find a new hospice provider. In my opinion Apreva's policies are deceptive at best and are not working in the best interests of their patients. I will actively encourage others to reconsider a relationship with them. read more

I wanted to thank Apreva Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for my Uncle Dennis. Words cant express the gratitude I have. When my uncle came to visit from England and fell ill, i was at a complete loss. Since he wasnt a US citizen he didnt have any insurance and Apreva Hospice took care of him without charging us a penny. His nurse Kaylyn, HHA Deysi and Social worker Jennifer came to our home and became like family, they all called him Uncle Dennis as well which meant the world to him and he adored each and every one of you. I have been a physician in the San Diego community for the past 20 years and have worked with too many caring and compassionate people to count. However when one stands out among the many, she must be recognized by name. I know of no healthcare employee who gives more to her patients than Amber Morra of Apreva Hospice. Day or night Amber is always available to her patients. She relentlessly advocates for getting their needs met, be it palliative care or some other important resource related to their hospice care. I have been working with Apreva Hospice for three month. The Hospice team have been fantasic to me and my wife. They have a 24 hour hot line that i called many times. I called the hot line number fore support and what medication to give to my wife at any given time. When my wife started Apreva Hospice, I called the day before she came home from the hospital. Hospice came to my house with a bed, wheel chair, and many personal supplies the same day. I also wanted to acknowledge one person that Stood out. Her name is Becky. She was the nurse assigned to my wife. She came once or twice a week, as needed. She was fantastic. She looked out for me and my health as much as she cared for my wife who was sick with cancer. I called the nurse many times for supplies and advise as to what to do in situation out of my control or knowledge. She was very professional and not want to just come and socialize with me or my wife. She dressed professional and always came with her supplies to get right to work when she came in the door. You could not ask for a better person. Becky is the reason I'm writing this review. I had many nurses and help aids come through my door. Becky was the person who stood out. If you have an opertunity to work with Becky, I guarantee you, you will have the same or better experience. One other teem from Apreva Hospice that was fantastic and very professional was the company that works with Apreva. They handled all the hardware they delivered to my home. They delivered the bed, wheelchair, any air tanks, Walker, toilet seat support ect. They were very professional and did not just want to chat and be your best friend but get in and out so I could get back to my wife. Thank you all so much for doing the job you do. read more

It has been 15 months since my wife passed. I can not find the perfect words to express how truly wonderful the Apreva Bereavement Team has really helped me through the shock, pain, and completely mystifying feeling that the whole team had pulled me out of the rabbit hole. From the first day of getting transfer into an apartment, the nurses visiting instructions, to helping me sort out the massive contacts to make, then a year late a video counseling with them plus other people that lost loved ones, and even after 15 months receiving a letter in memory of Karen. You are all the BEST!!! I only wish there were more start in the ranking, 5 is not close enough to what your team deserves. Karen passed fast, 6 days post knee operation, so the shock had my mind whirling out of control. Having her around for 22 years then all of a sudden she was not there with me. But she talks to me, I hear her and answer with my "Yes, Honey" still to this day. We lost my mother on law Tuesday, February 2, 2021. Our family was lucky enough to bring her home the week before for hospice. The Camp Pendelton hospital sent us the Apreva Hospice nurses. Although we had been caring for Mamasan on our own for the last few months, they showed us what we needed to do now that she was going to pass. They went over administrating medication and things to pay attention to. (ex. bedsores, skin discoloration, breathing.) Each nurse made us feel capable, confident, and, most importantly, comforted. We were given hugs and words of wisdom from each and every one. We will always hold a special in our heart for Georgette (Nurse G), Lisa, Paula (sorry again about your car), and Tabeka. We consider them family and are so grateful for their kindness and reassurance. read more

I realize hospice is a godsend for many families, but I regret the manner in which this company enrolled my mom and I would encourage families to be sure to ask questions about what paths you are foreclosing when you sign up. She was at Palomar with a sudden advanced-cancer diagnosis. Everything happened so fast we were unable to quickly get the most scientifically sophisticated information from an oncologist. Cancer treatment in 2021 is far from a one-size-fits-all situation. We went with hospice because my mom was being discharged and we needed a lot of home support. The Apreva nurse who hurried over to the hospital that Sunday to sign us up answered yes when we asked if my mom would still be able to consult with an oncologist to hear her options, even just for potential palliative treatment (That was misleading. We'd need to disenroll from hospice to do that and have insurance cover it, and even being on hospice makes it more difficult to even set an appt at MD Anderson), and she also suggested it wouldn't be a problem if mom needed, say, a blood transfusion if she had another decline in her hemoglobin, a condition unrelated to cancer. In no way were we prepared to have mom die of low hemoglobin just because she had cancer. In fact, however, just days later Apreva told me they would not authorize that treatment or even lab tests because it would be "too aggressive." The moment that haunts me though is that at the hospital, the Apreva nurse went into my mom's room to get her consent, and literally got that consent while my mom was having a bowel movement. No one ever talked to her about what hospice meant, and she was confused about the whole situation, at once asking if she was dying while also asking when she'd get to speak to oncologists. Ultimately my mom's cancer took her very fast, and it's likely there was little we could do. But I am writing this because I feel bad about her path at the end (and my own, in hindsight, passivity) and I would not want another family who perhaps had more time or options to skip steps and have regrets. Hospice will be there. Never rush. read more

They were very personal and paid attention to detail with respect to our family, household, and culture. Where to even begin to say THANK YOU to Apreva Hospice for helping us take care of our dad Victor Tapia. The best thing we could gain from a nursing home was getting introduced to Hospice. From being at a home we brought him home to be with us and Hospice stayed with us, providing home care visits a few times a week or as needed, while IHSS was worthless and never got around to any help to us. Hospice was with us every step of the way . Angels on earth is short of a term. I live out of town and I spent a lot of time on the phone with Zack our RN / team manager and the admin staff who were ALWAYS available to us any hour of any day - if not they would call me right back. Zack never made me feel like because I wasn't the immediate care taker that he could not talk to me, he was so helpful with communicating everything to me for my mother and sister he always went above and beyond to answer questions and explain details to us. No one is ever prepared to loose a loved one and no one understands the process. But this staff here made it possible for us to get through it. I know Jennifer spoke to my sister a handful of times and was very helpful to her as well. From the time my dad started to digress in health to the moment he took his last breathe. They were available to us. 24/7. We never asked for anything we didn't receive even if we didn't ask they were always plentiful with supplies and resources for us. I know my mother would really like to thank Nayeli and Maria his direct caretakers and nurses they were extra sensitive and companionate to both her and my dad. Deacon Bill was also always very attentive to contacting and visiting. Also the beautiful guitar player who came to sing for him every week. There are just so many details I can go on forever. Once my dad passed, we received phone calls and cards of sympathy and condolences, for god sake- Zack even showed up to the memorial services. WHO DOES THAT? People who truly CARE there is no monetary amount or reward for this. We will never be able to thank them enough. My family was recently blessed by the care our loved one received from Apreva. The highly competent and caring team led by Dr. Danque determined that our elderly father was not able to receive proper care at home. Working closely with my sister and I in a very contentious situation, the staff helped us get him moved to the La Jolla Nursing and Rehab Center. I can't emphasize enough what a relief this was knowing Dad was getting the care he needed. Apreva, Dr. Danque, and the nursing team went over and above our expectations for helping us during this stressful time. When Dad began his transition, Dr. Danque worked with LJN&R so my sister and I could be with Dad during his last days. This was extraordinary during the COVID pandemic. She and the LJN&R staff were working together as one to make sure Dad's needs were met with compassion and care. Dr. Danque was meticulous in reviewing Dad's medical history to thoroughly understand his case and treatment needs and to help us understand his condition. During his last years, Dad had seen many doctors to address different problems, but this was ad hoc and incomplete - Dr. Danque went out of her way to help us put the bigger picture together and to see that he had the best care in his final days. If we had one regret, it is only that we couldn't get our beloved father into Apreva's care much earlier. When were given the devastating news that our mother had only a few months to live our doctor recommended Apreva Hospice. During this most difficult time Apreva was by our side every minute. Let me start with no one in the hospice / end of life business has ever heard of what our family had to endure. This will be long. My father was in hospice with Apreva. I received a phone call on a Thursday evening from the social worker at Apreva that he had passed. They needed the mortuary information. I provided that and then began notifying friends / family. It seems that there is a law that the body must be removed within four hours of death from a facility (which is a) important later and b) is actually based on the official time of death). 2.5 hours later, I received a call from the hospice nurse. She was on her break and had been with my father for over an hour ... she was there for the "death visit" to proclaim him legally dead. Instead? She found him alert, agitated, and definitely alive. I pretty much collapsed at this point. Had to call everyone back with, "oops, he's not gone." BUT - note she was with him for OVER AN HOUR before she saw fit to notify the family of the "oops?" Hospice nurse indicated she would be going back. Well - she didn't. And no one bothered to call and tell us that she wasn't. I called hospice and was told she was away on an emergency. Now, sorry, but how much more of an emergency than telling a family their loved one is dead when he isn't? At that point, I lost it and asked for continuous care. I was told he didn't qualify. Continue to Friday morning. Lots of finger pointing. Hospice stating that facility had called and told them he had passed, facility swearing they had called and said he was close. Hospice manager, Zack, went out to facility and determined that even though there was no change from the previous night, dad now qualified for continuous care. Zack subsequently called me and told me that he was the one who had taken the call from the facility - and they had definitely told him that my dad had passed. He also explained the 4 hour rule for the body. I then got a call from Kris, the hospice nurse. She indicated she was the first on continuous care. Then someone would take over at 4, at midnight, and then she would be on again in the morning. I'm still stunned, but at least there is someone with him 24/7 when our family / family hired caregiver can't be. Saturday night. 8:01 pm, I get a call from director of facility. She informs me that dad has passed (again?). She had been told over 30 minutes prior. She waited 30 minutes, had them check again, and then called me. I then speak with hospice at 8:45. Nurse (Kim?) has the empathy of a flea and tells me that his official time of death was 8:25 (say what?). I ask for an explanation as to why he seems to have passed once again AFTER I was informed ... and she tells me she came on shift at 3:30. Was *called away* to an emergency at 5:30 ... at which point I stop her and go, "WHAT? He was on continuous care." She then lets me know that despite the dictionary definition of "continuous," that legally they only have to be there 8 hours out of 24. This is the FIRST time I've heard of this. So basically, his TOD was based on her getting back there and proclaiming him dead. Then? Come to find out that Zack admitted to our caregiver that the facility had called him and said that dad was "in transition." He took it upon himself to start the ball rolling and cause the calls that caused such agony to be made. The owner of Apreva did call me to apologize. We had a bad cell connection so he said he would call me back the next day. That was 10 days ago. Still haven't heard back from him. WORST communication ever and our family had to go through hell. Thank goodness my dad was spared the knowledge of this. (Although our caregiver DID have to point out that his finger, which had been injured was black from infection ...) I think you get the picture. I can't ever recommend these people. They don't follow up. They lie to cover their tracks and in short - they pretty much don't care what damage they do. read more

Apreva hospice took care of Dad. They went the extra mile to meet all of his needs and keep the family informed and supported. Since Dad was a WWII vet the honored him with a "pinning" ceremony that was very impressive and provided the family with pictures of it and a plaque we will cherish. It really made him smile in his final days. They took care of everything for us when he passed. I highly recommend them. read more

Apreva Hospice could not have done anything else to accommodate the needs of my Dad who passed at the end of April. They were responsive, educational, compassionate and caring. The nurses were dependable, patient and thorough. Troy was Dad's first nurse, he was in tune with Dad and Mom's resistance to having help and respectful of their apprehension. He soon won them over! The next nurse was Mark, we called him "hot Mark"! He jumped in to help in the middle of the night and then came right back over the weekend as Dad was declining fast. Mark made arrangements with the local fire department to come transfer Dad from the bedroom to a hospital bed in the living room, since Dad couldn't walk or stand. Mark had great bedside manner and follow through and explained what Dad was experiencing to us. The next nurse was Zannie, she was super compassionate, answered all of our sometimes frantic phone calls with questions and guided us through the end of life process with patience and understanding. The people who answered the phone and did the follow up calls were EXCELLENT! Barbara took the call when Dad was combative and agitated, angry and laying on the floor. I begged her not to hang up and she could not have been more calm and reassuring that she wasn't going anywhere! She guided me on what needed to be done to calm and comfort Dad successfully and keep him safe. Kraig Beaver was our social worker. Kraig happened to be in the neighborhood the morning Dad passed and he sat with us patiently as we waiting for The Neptune Society to come. Kraig was also very in tune with Mom and Dad's resistance to accepting help, he continues to follow up with us to see if we need grief counseling, what an incredible help he was. Jeffrey came to bathe Dad weekly, he was compassionate in maintaining Dad's dignity, the last time he came he brought flowers for Mom, "just because". What a sweet and kind gesture. The binder that Apreva provided was super helpful, we continue to refer to it. Thank you Apreva, I will continue to sing your praises. read more
