For selling your old gold at scrap prices, I definitely recommend Gold Vancouver. For best results,…read moreyou should know the karat of the jewelry you are bringing in so that no mistakes can be made. It is not difficult to buy a magnifying glass to check for the karats on gold jewelry, or even sometimes using the zoom on your iphone camera might work (take a photo zoomed in, then examine photo after). I like that Gold Vancouver prints explicitly their prices of what they buy your gold for on their website and it is updated throughout the day as the markets fluctuate. There is no pressure from them to sell your piece after they give you a quote. I never once felt intimidated. The gentleman I dealt with Gary is a seasoned professional, no non-sense guy. Every transaction is noted in writing. Receipts clearly stated correct karats and weights. I got a cheque on the spot dated same day. No hassle and secure. I got cash from a real business and didn't have to worry about online scammers or my personal safety. If your jewelry doesn't have a clear legible stamp of the karats, then manual testing using the scrape method with some chemicals testing the scrape mark must be done, but note that this may not yield most accurate results. They also have a mass spectrometer in another room to test the metal in your jewelry but again results can vary with that. Overall, it is worthwhile to get a quote from them at the very least. I would get quotes from other establishments first and then go to Gold Vancouver after to see if the latter is indeed the highest scrap value.

I really wasn't looking forward to the task. At first, I took some collections of medallions my mother had collected over decades. I was given a direct, informative description of every item. I was doing some spring cleaning this weekend when I came across that jewelry drawer -- you know,…read morethe one with all the nice pieces that other people have gifted you but you never actually wear. With summer (and travel plans) around the corner, I decided this drawer could be put to better use. A quick Google search landed me on this spot. I've never bought/sold gold or anything (I've never really been into a pawn shop) so I wasn't really sure what to expect. It's conveniently located just across Cambie Bridge though, so I figured I'd take a stab. When I walked in I was greeted by a staff member and the cuuuutest little dog! I explained why I'd come in and handed over my loot. The staff member ran some quick tests on the jewellery to make sure it was real and check out the quality. He explained what he was doing through each step and it was actually all pretty interesting. Since all of the pieces I brought in were gifts, I wasn't really sure how much any of it was worth. I was so excited when I found out it was just over $500 that had been sitting in my drawer this whole time. Apparently gold prices have been really good lately (so the employee informed me) -- win! As he started writing me a cheque, I noticed they were selling some nice jewelry in the store, too. I ended up finding a beautiful pair of diamond studs for my mom's birthday! Overall this was a great experience. I'll definitely think twice about throwing unused jewelry in a drawer from now on.
