My skylight had been installed incorrectly by another company, which was contributing to the moisture issue. Since skylight repairs can be a relatively small job, I found that not many reputable companies were interested in doing this type of work. I was very happy to find Sunline Energy. Juan handled the skylight and related roof and flashing repairs, and I can't say enough about the quality of his work. He is a perfectionist and took the time to make sure everything was done correctly. He went above and beyond and fixed both the skylight and surrounding roof area beyond my expectations. Adding on after Sunline Energy's response: I did not mention the following yet it is important to do so, in 2024 3 roofing companies told me that the roof was past due on repair, I had mentioned what happened with Sunline Energy in 2023 and was told that your company as well as others install on roofs that are not healthy enough and even with replacement of shingles the plywood was not thick enough to support solar panels, in other words, Sunline never mentioned something that was felt just by walking on the roof, ethics should be as important as obtaining a sale because people work hard to keep there home maintained, honesty is the best policy, I understand that the company must achieve sales but situations as so are very disturbing, Sunline Energy continues to owe us $1,000 due to a deposit for a job that never took place.

A minor issue with the installation came to light a few days later. We called West Coast Heating and Air, and Christian, the technician, came out that same day. Here is the whole story: I originally installed solar 9 years ago and recently my solar panels hadn't produced as much as they used to. I requested several quotes and had 3 top contenders. Family first rang me up and I immediately had a gut feeling that they were the ones for the job. I bought an Enphase Envoy metered S and a Combiner Box 4 that I purchased directly from Enphase. What does this mean? Basically, I lost the ability to monitor my solar panels and needed to see if they are producing what they should and feeding back into the grid. My last SDGE electric bill was $590 which was totally ridiculous since I have over 20 solar panels on my roof. Anyways, back to family first, I spoke with Anthony and he was very receptive, called me back to answer my questions, told me what to purchase from Enphase. So , gave him my verbal agreement, he asked for several photos and videos, in which I sent. I spoke to him , had a clear plan of what the job will take, even had a group call with the actual service technician. Appointment made. I took the day off so that I can be on site and get educated and informed in case something was wrong with my panels. Less than 12 hours before they were supposed to show up (the night before), Anthony's technician called me. He said he needed to cancel because he will need a "whole crew" to do this job". I was livid. I explained to him that he made the appointment, was on the group call with me and Anthony, and that he knew what the job needed. I had taken a vacation day from work to be home for the job. But he proceeded to give me excuses how he did not know that the job needed a whole crew. I tried calling Anthony, and my call went straight to voicemail. He called me back and ended up dropping the call. Pretty bummed at the situation, my gut feeling was to cancel the job and hire someone else. I ended up hiring a local company (I posted a review about them). It only took 1 technician and 1 apprentice to do the job. It took them 3 hours to get the install completed. I am glad that I did not have "Family First Solar" do the job. I felt as if they were trying to upsell me on my repair. Instead I hired an actual electrical company who had been around for over 20 years. Bottom line, say what you mean, mean what you say. I don't like to flake on people. If you've made an appointment, keep it. I've learned so much during this process. I'm hoping that by sharing my experience, you can learn as well. In response to Anthony's comments: Yes I sent a video on Wednesday2/14/24 , 2 days prior to the appointment. However, I sent several photos and videos a week prior 2/8/24 via email to Anthony clarifying the project. And ....we had a phone conference call with David and Anthony on the phone detailing the project. Bottom line is: The communication breakdown was not from me, the customer. I did not add any new tasks to the job. I had been discussing the details a week prior. Anyways, the other company I hired did the job in half a day with 1 electrician and 1 apprentice. I guess we can sum up this review as a breakdown in communication and not the job itself. I'll add a star for Anthony's diligence. However, owning up to a mistake and showing extreme ownership is another trait that I would have fully respected.

Erica set up a visit quickly and within two days the panels were clean and the price was fair. Our tech noticed a couple of actual holes in our roof and patched them before he started washing. Just wanted to write an update on how my solar & batteries are doing. They are performing beyond…read moremy wildest expectations. I have pulled nominal amounts of power from the grid since March, instead running over 99.5% of my needs on solar + batteries. Full electric household (no gas hookup) and 2 EVs. The solar + batteries are able to do it all. The power that does get pulled from the grid I believe is from large loads momentarily allowing electrons to flow in from the grid while the batteries match the load. My last bill imported a grand total of 4 kWh from the grid. Now that the weather has started getting hot, the system still performing exceptionally and not pulling any energy from SDG&E. I keep the AC at 69 degrees during the day and down to 67 overnight. System is still able to satisfy the load and keep me comfortable. I've taken to describing my system as "Selfish Solar". I use as much energy as I need at a time that's convenient for me. No more avoiding running appliances, AC & more during those most expensive parts of the day. Could not recommend a system like this any higher. Currently looking at less than an 8 year payback period. Will probably be even faster than that because I'm not considering future price increases from the utility. Attached is a screenshot of my last bill from SDG&E as well as what the Tesla app estimates it saved during the same time period.
