    Selections from BWC!

Great selection of cheeses and very helpful staff. I went in there looking for cheeses and beers from Maine to bring back to NY and the staff was helpful in showing and allowing me to taste the cheeses before I bought them. I'm looking forward to sharing with friends. I grabbed a couple of Maine beers that I have never tried before and they were happy to wrap them up for me so I could pack them in my suitcase! I'm looking forward to trying the mysterious Friars beer they get every Friday from the friars down the street and around the corner when I'm back over Christmas!

Closed for now but we will return!

This review is long overdue, as the wife and I stopped in here by a chance occurrence just before Christmas last year. We had flown to Bangor so that we could save a boat load of money instead of flying to Canada directly. It's pretty bad when you can pay to fly, rent a car for like 5 days and get a hotel for a night and still come out ahead. We still had to drive to our final destination, in this case once through a snow storm and back again in an ice storm. After our long icy drive, we had reservations at a restaurant next door, so we really lucked out walking into Bangor Wine and Cheese a few minutes before they were closing for the night. The staff was nice to accommodate us in the little time that we had, but I am sure that they were happy with the amount of money that we spent in our short time there. Overall great selection of beer, local and imported, fresh bread, fancy cheeses, oils and balsamic vinegars. The couple of bottles of Cantillion that I bought alone caused me to cash in all my accumulated karma chips that I had from agreeing to travel to Canada during a Winter wonderland to visit family. As the wife said all during that evening, haven't we suffered enough already, let's enjoy our icy night in Bangor and celebrate our survival of yet another Canadian Winter ordeal.

The Oyster is an awarding-winning, sustainably-grown, vegan Sauvignon Blanc that helps fund the restoration of our oyster reefs!

I came in from NYC and was blown away by the selection of Sancerres. Can't wait to come back when we rent a cabin next summer.

They have an incredible selection of wine, as well as beer, that is both well-rounded and varied.

What didn't go well!?!…read more Fresh from the airport, on a rainy day driving from Bangor to Bar Harbor for a weekend trip - we happened to pass this spot and decided to turn around and come back for our first Maine lobster roll of the trip. Didn't realize it had just opened that day - there were only two other people inside and it was very quiet. Still, staff were super friendly and welcoming. There is a fresh fish market area and the restaurant area. The fish market looked closed to us. The two people eating inside happened to be locals - who said they come at least once a week and purchase whole lobsters (we saw them come out on the tray) at market price (which was about $12/lb that day) and have them cook/boil them for $2. My husband asked to do the same and he ended up with an almost two pound lobster for $22 - unheard of for us as lobster is extremely expensive and not fresh. This one was caught like hours before he ate it. A bit challenging for him to eat - ha - as we aren't experts. But, he loved it. I chose to go with the roll and fries with an Arnold palmer with house-made lemonade. Sooo good! Best lobster I've ever had. We loved this place. Hands down the best lobster roll of my life. Delish. If you are anywhere nearby - stop here asap.

I had the hot lobster roll which came with fries and two dipping sauces (ketchup and a spicy tangy mixture). The roll was warm and buttery. My husband had the chilled lobster roll which he enjoyed as well. The fries were crispy and good as a side.

Natural Living Center in Bangor is a top-spot for plant-based eaters like us. (I can't speak for…read moretheir non-vegan produce; but, they seem to carry a lot of local meats, dairy and such.) Their products run the gamut, including a large Asian section. Aisles are nice and wide; lots of refrigerators. Overall, it's clean, bright, and well-stocked. Produce section is, overall, good with a lot of local goods. That said, they sometimes tend to leave withering and browning veggies out on display WAY beyond attractiveness going into decay. (Our last visit had the same rotting celery on display/sale from a visit several days earlier! It was pretty gross-looking. Thus, 4 instead of 5 stars.) Other than that one glaring negative, customer service can be spotty and downright oblivious (but, it's status quo for much of today's young workforce). And, too, expect maximum pricing on, at least, plant-based/vegan products. (Can rival Brewer's Tiller & Rye for outrageous pricing!) These negatives aside, NLC offers a great variety for vegans in Bangor that can't be overlooked! (But, in all honesty, living in Bucksport, we tend to head to Belfast to shop plant-based. However, Natural Living Center recently started carrying a good number of locally-made Midcoast Vegan products (which we LOVE!), so that looks to be a lure for our steady return, for now. And the Asian section....)

The prices are a little higher than my husband would like to pay, but I don't feel like I am being stolen from as in many other natural food stores.
