Their 4-seater buggys DO NOT handle even the small sand dunes well. Maybe with 1-2 people they can perform. They tried to charge me HUNDREDS of dollars for one of the buggy's wheels breaking when I was merely driving straight a FEW MINUTES after I got to the dunes. Ridiculous. Their service is simply great! They have a big team and everyone is very pleasant and great to talk to. We reached there an hour late; since we missed the instructions on being there one hour before our scheduled time. They were very sporting and did not make us feel that it was a big deal at all. Space is a premium there so we couldn't park at the office, but the fancy Tram took us to the parking lot. They showed us a short video and gave us a helmet and goggles. They have three options of vehicles that you can rent - ATV, Dune buggy or a regular buggy. We got a regular buggy for 200$/hr between the two of us. With the park fee and taxes it came to $264 They also gave us a map and instructions on where to go and what not to do. All in all a fun experience!! read more

Awesome Place! ~ people were incredibly friendly and helpful. The rental units were safe but a lil worn, and they do govern the speed (for safety reasons) but as expected. Wish they went faster but for novices such as ourselves, probably not a good idea. Can't say enough great things about the staff though. Nope the helmet police pull you over and give you a choice wear it or bye. The utv 4 seater with only 2 passengers was challenging to make it up all but the small hills. Our family is always out looking for adventure during our vacations and this day was one of our favorites if not the best! The people who work for this company really want you to enjoy your time with them. They are friendly, informative and helpful. Great team. You have to park in a different location from your dune buggy pick up but that was A OK, as the ride in was on a super cool contraption that was way better than a bus or van so, extra fun. I grew up in MI so I'm familiar with the dunes but my own family, living in Fl, not so much. We have always gone on dune "rides" where we are driven around, but this year we decided to rent our own dune buggies which proved to me, this is the way to go!!! What an epic way to spend the day. We started off on the smaller dunes in a true "type" of dune buggy because my husband is a photographer and he wanted that "look". My husband and I did get stuck a bit, as the kids flew on by and enjoyed. We waited for a tow out, which didn't take long at all surprisingly, and then we switched up to a different modal buggy which we enjoyed so much more. These buggies were little beasts and had the power and speed to really conquer all the hills we attempted. The day was beautiful. Just stunning and the trails, the hills, the views, the water, and the experience were worth every penny. My son brought his drone out with him and filmed all kinds of races that were happening. I wish I could post them and the videos as pictures just don't do this Justice! I believe in the USA there are only 2 places that offer dunes like this. The other is CA maybe and has no water views, and just can't be as beautiful. Ya have to do this at least once in your lifetime. The Sun Buggy people are just so accommodating. They really care about your enjoyment and go the extra mile. From the moment we hopped on the tram to get there, the check in, the helmet fitting and video instructions and the staff who give you the buggies to the tow out because we got stuck, everyone was super friendly and kind. Too bad 0 star is not an option. This company does not insure their rentals. That means if you roll or snap the flag they will charge you at least $1,000 up to $6,000. The owners are miserable. They try to dissuade you from having fun the entire time. Can you say buzzkill? And you bet that means if you roll one of their ATV's or it lands on you. YOU will get charged so much more money. They will make you homeless. You will not be able to afford rent or food after coming here. Rolling can happen to ANYONE. I repeat they do not have insurance. Which means if you roll. YOU will be responsible for the "damages". Which means they will use your pain as an excuse to fix EVERY broken thing on the ATV. Put this into perspective. A year of BMW ownership and services cost less to maintain than these run through ATV's. You're better off skeet shooting than this. read more

We made the mistake of renting from Sun Buggy. We had paid confirmed reservations and they made us wait behind walk ins. When we got to the staging area they had the wrong vehicles, so we had to wait half an hour to get the right ones. We rented two seater UTV's which couldn't climb 90 per cent of the hills in the park. When we complained, they stated that they were beginner vehicles and they knew the vehicle could not do the hills. We definitely were not beginners. Why would you have vehicles to rent that won't do the hills the park is full off? And if you knew the vehicles couldn't do 90 per cent of the park you should have made that fact known. read more

bought and paid for 2 different rentals on the same day, 11 passengers total, for sunbuggy in Mears, Michigan. I called on July 8th, for our reservation scheduled on the 13th to get tickets emailed as I could not find them. The number I called said the location was closed and would not be accepting my reservation. I asked them about a refund, they said it would go to the original form of payment. I told them I canceled that card and no longer had access to. The lady said that the refund would be sent by mail. I called a couple days later, spoke with a guy named David, he said he would mail the check out that day, which was the 12th of July. Never received any check or refund. July 23, I received a check that was made out for July 12th, but the envelope was postmarked for July 18th. My refund was supposed to $1465.24. I have been calling, texting, and emailing the company regarding my refund. They are not returning my calls, text, or emails. I only want my money back. This was a huge inconvenience as this was my families vacation. I had booked a hotel in Mears MI, and I also live 5 hours away. If I would have drove to this location and not known about the situation, I would have been pissed. All I want is my refund. I have lots of messages saying that they would issue a refund, but have not gotten it yet. read more

After you park in the overfill parking lot you are shuttled to the building where you are provided with helmets and glasses that are sanitized between each use which I appreciated. Then you are shuttled again to the dunes where you get your vehicle. Our family of 4 used the 4 seat UTV and had a fun experience. Larry was very friendly and informative when giving us directions. The 2 hour rental was just the right amount of time for our family, none of which have a large interest or much experience in motor sports. read more

Very disorganized and buggy's were broken and unsafe! We arrived for our appointment early. Upon arriving at the address 1931 N 24th Ave Mears 49436 that we were told to arrive at. We were told we went we went to the wrong location (rudely). We went to the new location and it was a parking lot that we were charged for parking at. We waited in 87 degree weather for an open trailer to take us back to the location that we left in the first place. We waited in the lobby for over an hour before watching the safety video and finally being taken to the dunes where the sunbuggy's were. We finally got in the sunbuggy and it was mechanically not working in a safe manor. The breaks did not work, did not stop the buggy. The vehicle lunged forward when it started and the breaks wouldn't stop it. We felt unsafe in the sunbuggy. We were told that they could get us another sunbuggy like the one we signed up for but it would have taken another hour to get there. As we were already 1 1/2 hours late to get on the dunes we took the closest buggy which was not the buggy we signed up for, is was a UTV. We have tried many times to contact sunbuggy both on the phone and on their complaint email (qa@sunnybuggy.com). No response at all. They don't care. They took my money and that's all they wanted. read more

AVOID AT ALL COST This place is poorly run. Management is unprofessional and seemingly unbothered by their poor service. We weren't given the right equipment to get on the dunes and even if we did have the right equipment our dune buggy's weren't ready to ride for our scheduled time. When we called the customer service line they asked us what time it was in michigan because the person we were speaking to was based in Vegas!! Biggest waste of time and worst rental place i have ever had to deal with on a vacation. we took 2 prowlers out and both were going only 5-10mph. one got stuck at the entrance and the other shortly on a small hill. it's took them 45 minutes to get someone out to us and the guy was extremely rude. multiple people who stopped to help confirmed the prowlers get stuck consistently. the only positive was that they gave us a full refund. read more

I felt I was given so much information about safety for my kids by Bri and Sarah. When we went to see if we could rent something they tested my kids with helmets if they could hold their head up with the helmet on and fit in the seats properly. My youngest son did not pass the check so they said he wasnt going to be able to ride. Though sad because we were excited I felt a lot better knowing they were looking out for the safety of me and my children! Definitely will be going back soon without the kiddos!
