Sure, we all love friendly staff. - They make for pleasant shopping and dining experiences; they're the cherries on the cake of our consumer experiences. But Sun-Wah Mini Mart went beyond that...This time round, the shop itself was friendly. Yes, that's right...I was greeted by the shop as I entered. - 'Hello. Welcome!' said the automated sensor above the shop door. Super, super cute and such a nice touch. What an entrance!
Aside from that, the rest of the shop is quirky and fun with a number of waving cats (OMG, WAVING CATS!!!) and kitsch oriental teapots and plates. It's all relatively cheap and whilst you might not be paying for high quality, they sure do look pretty for just a pinch on the wallet.
I just love love oriental food shops like this one and Su-Wah really does have an abundance to choose from. The fresh selection didn't seem so large (I suggest Oriental Centre next to the Stirling Arcade) but for me it's the sweet treats which steal my heart and I wasn't disappointed, not one bit. I found some interesting coconut hard candy which I've since fallen deeply in love with.
I can't say for sure, but to me it all feels very authentic with super high shelves and very narrow aisles. So, it does really feel like a retro oriental mini-mart, although I can imagine the teeny aisles might be a tad hard to maneuver around during busier periods.
As I got closer to the back of the store and the service desk, the lady on the till asked if she could help me find anything in particular. I was just browsing but I appreciated the fact that she asked. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and I felt at ease browsing around to my heart's content.
