You can tailor your horse's diet the way you want (with choices of alfalfa, grass hay, and oat hay) and they will even supplement your horse (you provide) with no charge. My horse was out in pasture right and they limit the # of horses to 8 in the 7 acre field. They also have free trailer parking (although the parking lot gets VERY crowded during the weekends). The three stars are from the following negatives: snobby boarders. Amazing how just a few people can ruin your experience. Just because my horse is in pasture and yours looks like Malibu Barbie's horse protected from head to toe in blankets doesn't mean that I'm lower on the totem pole. The road going up to the ranch will DESTROY the shocks on your car. It's also very narrow and I have gotten my 3/4 ton truck STUCK on the side when I was letting a huge trailer pass by (they had to pull it out with a tractor). No back shoes on horses in pasture. We were paired with two beautiful horses, including an enormous draft horse named Buck. Kim, the trainer, was warm, welcoming, and clearly loves her horses. She guided us through the foothills and into cool forest trails, where we even stopped to visit other horses along the way. Ashley the 2nd trainer joined us on the ride, and she was kind, supportive, and helped make the experience even more enjoyable. The entire afternoon far exceeded my expectations. From the breathtaking scenery to the comfort and confidence we felt with the horses, it was unforgettable. If that is the case, just have a sign up-front which mentions "Private Property. Keep Out!" We live in the neighborhood and just came up to look at the ranch and enquire about the classes being offered for adults and children. But expecting basic civil conversation is probably a tall order for the staff at Millard. I would like to point out that this was a lady who is supposedly a trainer there. There were a few other bystanders (possibly staff) who just kept quiet and chuckled. STRONGLY AVOID!

I'm boarding my 2 horses at Millwood in oversized paddocks with a sturdy shelter that is 12 x 12 and elevated so that they can always stand on dry rubber mats if they want. The horses are fed 8 lbs of Forage pellets in the morning and 2 flakes of a choice of good grass hay, Alfafa or Oat hay. Cleaning is mostly done by me and my friends. The manure is picked up every day from the wheelbarrows. I got lucky that there was an old travel trailer near the 2 paddocks - pretty rotten but I fixed the holes and extensively replaced rotten ceiling and painted it in and out. Now the trailer is dry, no mold no mice . The ranch manager says it is as beautiful as you make it. On a White Board you can read that they like support with picking up garbage and cutting the weeds down because of fire hazard. Both of which I do. I've been around ranches in Bay Area for over 10 years and I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that the roads at Millwood Ranch are numerous and well kept in terms of NO MUD. It was always possible to ride on the trails and not get stuck in mud. And the covered arena was rideable the whole time. As at every ranch there are conflicts - primarily based on misunderstandings. We all come from total different backgrounds even different countries and it is important to talk with each other and eliminate misunderstandings.

Company no-showed 2x in one day!…read more We had a 12 pm horse ride confirmed with several reminders via texts and email. Our party showed up 30 minutes before the expect time, as instructed. There was no one there. I called the company. Brenda answered. I stated that our party is at the gate and waiting for a member or further instructions. She insisted that there was no booking for 12 pm. I had several confirmations, including an email. I had a difficult time trying to explain this as she kept insisting that there was no booking . I could not get a word in. When i tried to state my case, I was told that I was interrupting and was persistent about the booking mistake as though we were at fault. She gave us the option of rebooking. Since we were from out of town and had driven a distance, we said that 2 pm same-day would be okay. And that we would be back. She recommended a couple of areas to see, which we appreciated. We came back before 2 pm. No one was there. Called 3x, left voicemails, sent an email, sent a text. No answer until perhaps 2:45 pm with a text stating that a text-notification was sent. When I reviewed the text, it stated that we can reschedule or get a refund. However, it made no reference to what needed to be rescheduled: the 12 pm reservation (which was already rescheduled) or the 2 pm reservation. There was no further explanation. No apology for a second same-day cancellation. I understand if an emergency situation arises. But the least they could do was communicate BOTH of the cancellations better and more clearly. Answering phone calls would have also been a good business model. Several calls, voicemail, an email, texts from a customer only to be deflected. The owner needs to take accountability. I do not appreciate the gaslighting.

If anything appeared different, Jennifer would contact me to let me know that there was a change. Most boarding facilities don't do that. Both Johnny and Jennifer are very nice people and that's who you want to care for your horses. The only reason we moved was to be closer to my house otherwise we would still be there. Most of the boarders have been there a long time. I recommend this facility for boarding your horse.

I am finally speaking up about my experience in hopes that no other person or child experiences…read morewhat I did. The ride was beautiful and the weather was gorgeous. The horse I rode was an angel. BUT the ride almost didn't happen for me. Why? Because one one of the workers abused me by yelling at me in a loud, condescending, and absolutely terrifying way that left me with fright, anger, and tears in my eyes that I had to hide behind my sunglasses so that my daughter and her cousin wouldn't see. It was infuriating and 3 months later I am still a bit distraught. It was my very first time EVER on a horse and still to this day I am not totally sure what I did wrong which prompted the worker to abuse me but I assure you I did nothing intentionally bad. Perhaps I pulled the reigns too far back. I am not sure and there was a language barrier as well so I did ask "what?" and had some confusion as to what he wanted me to do or not to do. I do not remember the worker's name. But I will never forget the anger, rage, and terror he spewed toward me. My cousin after the ride even told me he heard him yell at me. Whatever I did "wrong" there was no justification to be treated the way I did by this person. And for this I will never go back to this place nor will my child. The feeling I experienced after getting berated all the while trying to navigate a whole new feeling and experience of being on a horse for the FIRST time was overwhelming to say the least. I almost quit right there but I did not want to take away from my child's or family's experience. I also had looked forward to this adventure as I had gone through cancer treatment prior and what better way to celebrate than to ride a beautiful horse on beautiful Half Moon Bay...? THANK GOD there was another worker who was an absolute joy full of smiles and KIND who helped ease my angst and made the experience enjoyable. I'm glad I did it and completed it but BOY what a horrible horrible start. I hope this company takes a look at their workers and re-evaluates them because I will never return or suggest this place to anyone. I can NOT imagine if the person who yelled at me yelled at another person who was more vulnerable than I OR at a child god forbid. THIS is why I am finally writing something. I just had my family that went on the ride visit me recently and we were talking about the incident and my cousin's wife said ..."you know what, leave the review..what if that person treats a child like that in the future?" And so here I am letting people know that there is a worker out there who is totally completely out of line. I understand safety first BUT this was NOT the way in which to handle a situation not in dire need. The horse was at a standstill. I did not yank or do anything abrupt or out of line to warrant the horrid behavior spewed toward me. Even If the situation was dire or dangerous there should have been a totally different way to approach it. He ruined a part of a very meaningful experience. However, I'm glad I found the strength to go on and persevere and create memories with my family. The ride was in November 2025.
