Diane and my daughter's instructor Kailey have been such a huge part of my daughter's healing and happiness. I do believe that horses provide therapy and this has seriously been life-changing for my daughter. In the short amount of time, she has learned so much about riding, horsemanship, and has a real passion to keep learning and going far in the sport. I haven't seen her so passionate about anything like this in a long time. They really take the time necessary to train each person on every aspect of horses and horse riding. It's beautiful to watch and I love having my daughter come home and tell me all of the things that she's learning. It's hard work but the feeling of accomplishment is like nothing you can imagine. I have seen several of the instructors and every single one of them is very positive and uplifting and I am not used to that because in the past when we have been around riding instructors, I have noticed that there has been a lot of negativity. Not at Sun Valley equestrian - it's all about positive energy and loving what you do. I just can't thank them enough for the impact they are making in my daughters life.

I've seen many riding academies and Sun Valley is one of the best out there. They have several different trainers to bring out the best in you and your horse. They are able to cater to beginning riders as well as advanced riders for lessons, schooling shows, etc. Their students are taught all aspects of horsemanship so they understand safety as well as a bond with the horse they are riding. The trainers are knowledgeable, friendly and always willing to give a helping hand if you need it. The trainers are highly skilled and each have their own specialty. There is a multitude of knowledge and years of experience in this barn. The owner, Diane, is a great business woman who cares about her staff, students, horses and her boarders. This is a rare thing to find. Her business is truly an equestrian family!

It was the get away I was looking for. There are a lot of trails, and while we didn't spend a ton of time right along the ocean, the hillside views were still really nice. We had a great guide. The setup is cute, and I loved that they let you interact with the horses beforehand -- they seem to take good care of them while still making it enjoyable for guests. On our ride, we were paired with a couple who has been taking lessons there and they had nothing but great things to say, which was really reassuring. Only downsides: the website is pretty confusing and pricing for certain things wasn't very clear. It is a bit pricey, though. That said, I'd definitely go back -- and if I lived closer, I'd even consider lessons. But it is just too far for me to make the commitment.

She's been taking lessons from Denise for a little over a year now and is quite good! She can now canter and is very confident on her lesson horse Stormy. Denise is very knowledgeable and patient. She is really big on safety of both the rider and the horse. She really care about both, which in my book, makes a lot of sense. You can tailor your horse's diet the way you want (with choices of alfalfa, grass hay, and oat hay) and they will even supplement your horse (you provide) with no charge. My horse was out in pasture right and they limit the # of horses to 8 in the 7 acre field. They also have free trailer parking (although the parking lot gets VERY crowded during the weekends). The three stars are from the following negatives: snobby boarders. Amazing how just a few people can ruin your experience. Just because my horse is in pasture and yours looks like Malibu Barbie's horse protected from head to toe in blankets doesn't mean that I'm lower on the totem pole. The road going up to the ranch will DESTROY the shocks on your car. It's also very narrow and I have gotten my 3/4 ton truck STUCK on the side when I was letting a huge trailer pass by (they had to pull it out with a tractor). No back shoes on horses in pasture. There are several small trails for general exercise around the property. You can keep your horse in a box stall with turnout, in a solo paddock with cover, or full time paddock. Ciara West feeds real deal hay three times a day. There are three bathrooms one in the upper and two in the lower barn. The weather at along skyline is typically not so hot as down in the valley. The view at sunset of the ocean is spectacular. Finally, there are trainers available across multiple disciplines. And the community of equestrians is welcome and friendly.

My daughter had a great time! We first went 2 years ago and she was matched with Billy, a sweet pony. This year she was matched with Ranger, a horse who once used to barrel race. I'm not sure what that means but my daughter was excited to tell me this every day. So grateful I randomly discovered Lazy H years ago and looking forward to bringing my daughter and son (he will finally be old enough) next year. Thank you Breen and Emma!

I signed up for a semi-private lesson for my anniversary with my girlfriend, who is someone with lifelong horse riding experience- pony club, wall of ribbons, the whole 9 yards. And then there's me who didn't know what a bridle was until I got to the ranch. Immediately upon arrival, we were greeted by Breen with a smile. He asked a few questions about our experience, and instantly had just the perfect horses in mind for the both of us. We got to brush the horses before heading into the riding arena. My learning experience far exceeded my expectations. I went in knowing absolutely nothing about horse riding, and I walked away from Lazy "H" Ranch with such tangible experience in the basics of proper horsemanship. Everything was straight forward, to the point, productive all the while being a fun and soothing experience from start to finish.
