I've been boarding and riding at Ciara West for over a year. Ciara West has a great barn manager, Steven. He is incredibly engaged in making Ciara West run well and comfortably for horses and people alike. The facilities include an indoor arena, an outdoor dressage court, and a round pen. There are several small trails for general exercise around the property. You can keep your horse in a box stall with turnout, in a solo paddock with cover, or full time paddock. Ciara West feeds real deal hay three times a day. There are three bathrooms one in the upper and two in the lower barn. The weather at along skyline is typically not so hot as down in the valley. The view at sunset of the ocean is spectacular. Finally, there are trainers available across multiple disciplines. And the community of equestrians is welcome and friendly. read more

We have boarded our Irish sporthorse mare at Ciara West for almost three years. We have been at a few other places on the coast (HMB, Pacifica) and this is hands down the best boarding situation in the peninsula. It's only 35 minutes from the southern part of SF , quick and easy to get there. It feels so remote and the views are amazing. The horse care is stellar- our horse gets 8 hours of turnout in a huge pasture per day and then is in a cozy stall at night. The staff takes exceptional care of the horses- feed 3x a hay, high quality grass hay imported from Oregon. The covered arena is open 7 am-9 pm and is well-lit which makes riding in all weather/year round completely possible. The arena is dragged every day and there is also a fabulous dressage court that is open almost year round (only closes under heavy rain). There are two trainers on site- an eventer/jumper and dressage. The atmosphere is friendly and non-competitive. Many are long-term boarders and everyone helps each other out. There are no "lesson-horses" only private boarders and leasors who can take lessons. The arena and dressage court are rarely crowded - my daughter usually had the place to herself. read more

I've boarded my horse at Ciara West for over five years . Having boarded my horse at several other facilities in Woodside I can say that this is the best facility , hands down. The stable is gorgeous : well groomed rings, large well maintained stalls with paddocks , first rate hay and grain, and exceptional care by the manager. Horses are well cared for , and Steve is absolutely communicative to boarders re vet visits , weather concerns, etc. This stable is a real gem; our horses are beyond lucky to be at Ciara West ! read more

We have been boarding at Ciara West now for a couple of years. Our horse loves it there. We pay for extras like daily turnout all day and extra bedding since our guy is getting older and needs the extra padding when he lies down. I've been very impressed with the care and attention that Steven has provided. Whenever I've had any concerns or questions he quickly responds. He always communicates any upcoming changes to us. In fact, I've really appreciated the emails he sends out with the current air concerns because of the fires. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ciara West to anyone. My horse was boarded at Ciara West until I had to move her closer to home due to health reasons. It was very difficult to leave this barn, as the entire experience there was top notch. The barn is so run well, Steven truly cares about the facility and the horses. He has made so many improvements to the facility, from footing in the arenas, to a new round pen, to excellent generous helpings of feed three times a day. One of the great things about Ciara West is that you can find a variety of living quarters for your horse. Pasture with run-in, paddocks with shelter, of stalls in the barn with pasture turn out! I recommend Ciara West to anyone who wants a full service, friendly, well maintained barn, with great management, trainers, and fellow boarders! read more

This is the most well-managed barn we've ever been at! We have visited dozens and have boarded or leased at 5 others before moving our horse here over 5 years ago. Steve, the manager, is constantly improving the already gorgeous and well-maintained facilities. He lives on the property and is always around, supervising the staff, making upgrades, and monitoring the weather, paddock, and arena conditions. He's a clear communicator who maintains an orderly barn. We very much appreciate the great attention to horse safety and well-being. Fences are high enough, there is no barbed wire, horses are appropriately blanketed even under rapidly shifting weather conditions, pasture mates are selected for compatibility, and arena footing is well maintained. Things happen like clockwork here. We never worry that something will slip through cracks at CWE. Our horse is thriving! Steve has been exceptionally responsive to our individual needs. When we asked for a change in hay, for example, the change was made in a day. When we urgently needed an indoor stall because our horse unexpectedly needed a joint injected, Steve made one available instantly. When we asked if Steve could help our horse find a pasture mate, he found a perfect match for him and personally watched over their introduction! read more

If I could give more stars for this review, I would. I just moved my horse to Ciara West Equestrian and I am beyond thrilled with all aspects of this facility!! Here is my list of why I couldn't have asked for a better place for my horse and me to land: * Steven Ciarametaro, who owns and runs CWE, is professional, kind, responsive, knowledgeable, a clear communicator, and he clearly cares about the horses and the horse owners experience. I had never moved my horse to a new facility before. He patiently and thoroughly answered all of my questions and made himself available the day she arrived and for the days following, making sure the transition was going smoothly for her and for me. * There are multiple options for boarding one's horse (stalls, paddocks, individual pasture turnout, multiple horse pasture turnout, etc.). I opted for a lovely paddock (with a view of the ocean) and turn out daily into a huge pasture where there is plenty of room for my horse to run and cavort with the other mares there. * Steven has a careful protocol for introducing a horse to a herd in the pasture and is mindful of limiting the number of horses in a pasture so that each horse has plenty of room to move and get away on their own if desired. * There are multiple options for riding: indoor arena, outdoor arena, and at liberty arena, as well as trails around the property and off the property. * He keeps the place incredibly clean!!! * He has a well established system for feeding, cleaning, turn out, etc. I love that there is a predictable routine. * He wants to meet the needs of the boarders while being very clear about boundaries and protocols that are in place for good reason. I like this a lot!! You know what to expect and what is expected of you. * It is a beautiful piece of property that he and his staff keep up well, with nice touches of flowers, succulent gardens, and flower beds throughout the property. * Steven sets a tone of friendly and respectful. From what I see, there are people with different equestrian disciplines, all getting along well and supporting one another. I could probably go on, but I think this captures the highlights. I have been a boarder at Ciara West Equestrian Center for only a few months. I selected a large paddock with a shelter from those available, and it was in perfect repair when my horse moved in. The hay that was fed was agreeable to my horse and he maintained his weight and condition on this forage. (yes, I used a weight tape...) The large covered arena was a shady respite to ride in during those days that were overly warm and sunny. The footing in the arenas is groomed daily. The barn manager, Steven is very conscientious, and always responds quickly to urgent requests. When my first lease ended and my horse departed, my deposit was returned promptly. I am back again with another leased horse. There are other barns closer to where I live, but I enjoy the peacefulness of Ciara West and could not think of any place better to enjoy my time with my horse. read more

I have been teaching classical academic riding and training horses at Ciara West Equestrian facility since 2010. I am boarding my own four horses here including breeding stallion and three year old baby gelding. The facility itself is beautiful with spectacular ocean views, large pastures and wonderful trails around the property. Comfort of the large covered arena is a huge adventage for our work year around. I have been under the manager and the owner of Ciara West Equestrian, Steven Ciarametaro, for the last three years. Steven takes great care of the property and all the horses and keeps the farm very clean and welcoming. He responds promptly to all our requests, questions and issues and is very polite and responsible. The hay is also a very good quality. Our horses are fed 3x a day and stalls are very clean with plenty of shavings. Steven is always supportive of all my business activities as well as dressage shows or classical horse riding performances. We have been boarding our horse at Ciara West (formerly Claremont) for 7 years. We have previously boarded at three other facilities in Woodside and Portola Valley, so we have a good basis for comparison. Since the change in management a few years ago (when it became Ciara West) we have been extremely satisfied with all aspects of our experience there. The manager has been unusually attentive to the well-being of all the horses as well as to the individual needs of our horse, and has cheerfully responded to very short-notice requests when we have had to make them, e.g. for changes in feed or need to be moved to an indoor stall. We particularly wanted our older arthritic horse to have 24-hour pasture turnout, and by carefully managing the groups of horses in the two pastures, Steven has made it possible for our horse to remain sound and happy, living with a group of compatible companions, and fit enough to be ridden 3-4 times per week. In short, a major factor in our decision to keep our horse at Ciara West is the excellent management there.
