What a great and welcoming first experience at this location, and tanning in general. Kate welcomed me with a smile, and explained the ins and outs of the different beds. We found a plan that fit my needs, and secured a sweet deal to finish out the year! The salon was spotless, with private rooms for each of the beds. I chose the stand up option for my first go. I only did 6 minutes for my first time, and it was quick and easy. Thank you, Kate, for providing great customer service. read more

Great place, the tanning booths aren't hot but they are very effective in giving you a great tan. Also you rarely have to wait for a bed or booth .The staff is very knowledgeable ,welcoming and are fun to talk to. Also great parking , they have their own parking lot in the back. There is also a great Starbucks next door . read more

Ok, this is a judge free zone right? Yes, I'm a guy and I went to Sun Tan city. We're heading to the beach and I get sunburnt really easy so I wanted to try a few sessions just to get a lite base tan going. I was pretty nervous and felt off walking into the tanning salon- my wife goes but I just feel weird about it. When I got inside the energy was electric- it's a very cool place. You walk in to a cool lobby with music bumping and everything is dark black with neon pops of color- it's a really cool environment. 2 bubbly SUPER tan young ladies cheerfully greeted me. I instantly felt normal. They made the experience so easy. Helped me register for an account which only took a few min. I got to select exactly what I wanted. They have beds ranging from fast to instant there are a few options. They also offer spray tanning on site if that's your style. I went back to my bed after signing up- it looked like some sort of machine we will see in the United States Space Force I put my eye protection on (by law you MUST wear it.) bring your own or buy the $0.49 disposable stickers. I got into the machine and BOOM! this thing had full body air condition- face ventilation- a robot was talking to me throughout the entire tan. I found myself playing with the controls the whole time which made it fun. 10min passed the bed shut off I grabbed my things and went on my way. Super fun experience! Recommend this place to anyone- especially the dudes thing to get that GTL in read more

My new go-to for some R&R/down time. I recently took advantage of a Faster Membership through year-end. Staff is friendly, facility and beds are clean and new. I always look forward to my tanning session at Sun Tan City in Roxborough. It's a ray of sunshine read more

I hate to start a review off on a bad note- gosh, especially since I haven't even sampled their tanning services ( which I am ever-so-eager to do!) Today is a Sunday, I work till 6pm and for some reason it's nearly impossible to get a SUNTAN on SUNday after 5pm! When I saw the first review online at first it looked as if my prayers were completely answered! Then I read further... A few folks had some constructive criticism for the Rocksborough located business, no biggie, or so I thought. After looking over the various kinds of beds and packages that they advertised on their website, I clicked on each one to get a better understanding of how long each bed lasted, comparing the faster to fastest to instant! Click, click, - no information to be viewed! This is where the first realization hit: this national chain/company sets up this website trying to distinguish itself as the Gold Standard in the field, but misses the mark fresh out of the gates because of their lackluster website providing no important or relevant info. "ok, it's probably their way of encouraging you to CALL to get the info! I call. It answers after a few rings. it sounds like some outdated analog answering machine from the 1980's: A little girl's voice details the Hours- and I HEARD her say: "SUNDAY 10am-8pm" Then after a click and a whiirrr, I hear the voice of a middle aged woman with a southern accent : "You must have reached us after business hours. Our hours are M-F (blah blah blah - I didn't pay attention) SUMDAY 10-8pm, PLEASE CALL BACK During our normal business hours! Thaaaaank You! BEEEEEEP" What the heck? If they really are opened and why are they picking up the phone? You're telling me that the ladies described in other people's posts and reviews are there -working - and not picking up the phone to give a potential customer information that's not even listed on the website?::::::::sigh::::::: Initially, I thought this place was the most professional, sounding tanning salon in the city, judging by their website. But I was wrong... It is only a Mirage. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Rather than drive 18 minutes out of the city to arrive at a closed facility, I will opt instead to clean out the back half of my office to turn it into a SunCave and purchase My own machine. If it's less than $3,000 I would be ok with it and I'll bet they'll give me a deal waaay better than these flub-heads who put their business on AUTO-PILOT. Called again: still no humans . The kicker is I'll bet no one in management even checks Yelp for critical business feedback. [ I wonder how much their CEO is earning per year to do absolutely nothing for this business? Hmm. no idea. Share holders are a part of Public record though, right?) Toodles read more

Its pretty hard to find tanning salons these days given the increased taxes and the proven statistical facts and studies done that show their cancer causing agents. I just wanna say something about tanning salons in general. People do think they are terrible for you (and they are), BUT the sun is not any better. If you want a tan that looks real like one from the sun then a tanning salon is probably your best bet. A tanning salon is a more controlled environment for UVA and UVB rays. When youre in the sun, you get blasted with both. At the salon, you can slowly increase your exposure over time. This salon is very clean, smells nice, and has helpful staff. The prices are actually pretty decent as well. I came here to get a base tan for summer, that way when I lay out I dont get super burnt. Also I like to use tanning mouses such as those from St. Tropez and they look better when you have a base tan already. The color looks more natural on your skin. That being said, if you are interested in a Mystic Tan (spray), having a base tan makes the color look more natural on your skin, it just blends in nicer. I used to do mystics all the time years ago. Ill remember this place for next time I wanna tan. Perhaps during the summer if I have an event to go to and I dont feel as dark as Id like, Ill do a mystic. read more

I have had no issues with this location. They have always been friendly and there's never a wait. I am confused why others have left poor reviews. I think people need to remember this is a suburban tanning salon staffed with high school girls, not the spa at Four Seasons. read more

There is a way to steal from anybody or everybody if you put your mind to it. Sun Tan City's marketing department and or, with management's agreement have found an oh so clever way to scam just a little more from their customers. On Oct.16, 2019 or so, I walked into one to see what their prices were. They were running a special for tanning until 12/31/19. FAST was $49, FASTER was $99 and FASTEST was $149. I bought the FASTER. The next trip in I noticed a sign in the restroom that said lotions priced $49 or more were 25% off and with that lotion purchase an option for Members to add on $50 in Member Upgrades for only $15. I went back to the counter and bought some of the absurdly priced lotion and paid the $15 for the upgrade. Now call me stupid but it certainly would seem I would be upgrading to the $50 higher priced FASTEST beds. I mentioned to the girl ( turns out manager) that getting the best for $15 more was a no brainer. She was all smiles. Gave me the lotion I had chosen, took my money... smiles. I use one of the best beds that day but the following 3-4 trips in I did the stand-ups. So I go in 2 nights ago and the girl mentions I have the FASTER membership... Huh? ? ? I say, No, I have a FASTEST Membership. She says No, you have a FASTER. I say I bought the special on the lotion and paid the $15 for the upgrade. She starts talking like a robot and says the upgrade is good for 5 times in a FASTEST bed. Epiphany: I've used up 1 (20%) of my stick it to me lotion price and $15 extra and didn't even know it. I believe a logical assumption was that I would get that $50 " Member upgrade" and be bumped from FASTER to FASTEST. That is the EXACT price difference between the 2 levels. I go to the restroom and reread the sign... no doubt, the language used implies that and the day I bought it the "manager" said nothing about the scam I was buying into. The disclaimer, in tiny little print on the poster says: " 101319 Restrictions may apply. See salon for details. Okee Dokee, I made the transaction at a salon and didn't receive a bit of the down low on the scam. Knowing it was going to be good for only 5 laydowns on the hotrod beds, I would have said nope and not bought the lotion there either. Similar is less than half the price any where else. So, I question the little robot girl and she continues to repeat the script, as if I forgot what she had already just said twice or as if one more time would get through to my brain as some king of logical rationale. Anyways... good job, robots can and will do her job in no time. What I didn't realize that robot voice was like how a first grader talks just before the snot bubbles start showing up. Many times I apologized and told her my disdain was not directed at her, it was for the thief/s that thought up this scam. Whatever... I go on and use up another 20% of my "Member Upgrade" in a premium bed. I leave the building and get on my motorcycle. A police car pulls up right behind me. The little girl at the sun tan store apparently had a snowflake meltdown from a customer complaint and had called 911. Nice. I have to wonder what she was doing up so late when Miss Crabapple's 1st grade class starts at 8:00 AM. In any case I explain to the police how getting screwed tends to make me less than joyful. At 59 I've been exploited plenty. I didn't realize a sun tan joint would exercise such clever deception to unethically fleece me for 65 or so bucks. (Crappy lotion by the way... my skin is drier after I use it.) Now I know, OH YES THEY WOULD. There came a time when Jesus flipped over the money changer's table. The manager showed up and offered a refund of all my money. That isn't the point. I want to tan. I don't want to be ripped off. I don't want them to think it's cool to rip off their naive clientele with further double talk, ambiguous factoid methodology like they just pulled on me. I wasn't born yesterday and have a pretty good grasp on English, retail and the correct way to be honest with your messaging. My conclusion: This is a dedicated plan to deceive, at least. their young female customers that are probably spending Mommy's spoiler cash. Who would think that a tanning membership would be so complicated? I know why it comes as such a shock to them... I'm the first one to call them out for being con-artists. The others that were scammed were either told the details and went with it anyways or are slow witted/ complacent enough to just go with Sun Tan City's thieving gibberish and went about their zombie day. Not me... The way a person or business does one thing is the way they do everything. My advice; Go somewhere else. Go to an independent, local small business tanning spa. The nationwide corporate creeps from Sun Tan City are likely cooking up a way to double talk/ screw you out of your money right now. AS I just set up a "MySunTan" whatever account and confirmed my email, the browsers malware detection threw Sun Tan City's confirmation reply into Spam. Crooks. read more

I walked in as a new client and was greeted by Sky. She was friendly and went beyond to tell me the difference between the beds so I could decide which was best for me. Every time Im there she opens on time, keeps everything very clean, and keeps things running smoothly. She was out for a week and I was thrilled to see her back! Major difference without her and I won't go to a tanning salon where I'm not happy. read more

Save your time and money! My account was closed due to " disruptive behavior" for having the flu And throwing up in a bag in the bathroom. I endlessly apologized for even getting sick in the first place, anybody would think that's embarrassing. The workers lied and said that I threatened to throw up all over everybody-who in their right mind would even say that? Those words never came out of my mouth. When I left that day, they told me to not worry about it at all and to feel better and that they were just Lysol the bathroom. For the record, No mess was made at all, Nor smell because it was only spit up. It took corporate eight days to call me back, I left 10 different voicemails, and I am currently in the process of disputing the charges that they charge me for a service I was never even able to receive. I strongly recommend another tanning salon. read more

Absolutely love this tanning salon. I've been to a few others around the city, and I can say that this one not only offers amazing deals, but also has the best tanning beds. I have not yet tried a spray tan here but have heard good reviews about them. All the girls that work there are very friendly and super helpful! read more

This place has been my heart. I've been going here for awhile and always have a great experience when Steffany and Ashley are working. These two lady's always go above and beyond for my tanning sessions. I never wait long for a bed, very clean, friendly and informative on lotions deals etc. Love this place and will keep coming back. read more

*Most of the staff is very friendly, although some girls are often mid-gossip session when checking you in (i couldn't care less but this bothers some people). *Beds and facility are always clean. I've never waited for a bed in the FASTER group. *Tan endurance is medium-high. I do have to tan every 3 days to maintain my color. I love the Guava little fun and JWoww relentless lotions-great staff recommendations. Ask about their empty lotion trade in special, I got a discount off a new bottle. *Parking can be tricky sometimes as the back lot is often full and street parking is hectic. *Trashcans in booth stalls would be helpful for ladies using individual tan packets or makeup removers before sessions. read more

Good hours. Staff is typically friendly. However this place reminds me of the men who sell "rolex" watches in NY. You assume you're going in to get a deal and then there's a catch... There is always a catch here. Never believe any offer for what it claims (tan for a $1, free tanning first time customers, even their lotion deals have stipulations) so many stipulations and "fine print". It stinks because it is a nice place but I'm often lured into trying new places with what seemingly looks like a good offer or free trial for first time customers, whatever the "deal" may be - there is always a catch here and they often aren't too open or honest about it until you question why your total may be higher tha what you were expecting. If I was the owner, I'd get rid of these "hot deals" for good, lower regular prices a bit and be open and honest about rules and regulations of any promotional pricing. I will receive an email with a seemingly awesome promotion and for a split second think, "ooh I should stop By after work!" And then in the next second remind myself "there's Going to be some sort of costly stipulation on this." I would rather just go to a competitor where it is a little more Expensive but at least I know what to expect to pay and I don't have to "DIG" to find out what it REALLY TAKES to get The "deal". read more

Hands Down THE best tanning salon in the manayunk/roxborough area! I am an tanning snob. I want a fun, cost effective and clean place to take my tanning naps. The staff that works there are so nice and so very helpful! They aren't pushy about selling products to you. I find this refreshing because a lot of people try to jump down your throat to sell you a $130 bottle of tanning lotion that normally ends up smelling terrible which then causes you to have a restless tanning nap full of buyers remorse. They are very knowledgeable about the products they have in house and give a sincere and honest opinion. Whether it be "it's not the best bronzer", "this one smells better", or "this one is one sale". I've never been unhappy with a product I've purchased. Let's be real, tanning isn't the cheapest... But Sun Tan City always has great specials (free first sunless tanning -- might be what really pulled me in). They have so many options of packages and tanning specials that you aren't breaking the bank just to get some color. The wait times sometimes can be a little long, however they do have a feature where you can check the wait times online or on your phone to help you plan accordingly. Even if you have to wait a few minutes, I have never found it to be obnoxious. There is always good music, you can look/ask about products, and you can tell the girls are actively trying to make the wait times faster which is refreshing. Yunkers, it's worth the drive up the hill! Plus there's starbs right next door! Happy Tanning! read more

The is definitely the best tanning salon in manayunk! The place is kept very clean and has good beds. However; what makes it the best is the the customer service. The staff is always friendly and smiling, no matter what time of day it is, or how busy they are. They are what makes the experience. Recently, I have been waited on by Casey, Steffany, and Hannah.... and they all were amazing! Even after one customer was extremely rude to them, they were able to not let that affect their interactions with other customers! read more

I was having a very positive experience with this tanning location until I wasn't. Tan quality is great. Customer service not so much. I got married a couple weeks ago so I wanted to tan a few times before the big day. I was already a little tan so I went to Sun City about 2 weeks before. I just wanted to go a couple times before the wedding and 1 or 2 times the week after the wedding before my honeymoon. The girl recommended I do "around the city" which would allow me to tan once in each bed and then also get a spray tan. That sounded perfect. I used Faster, Fastest, and Instant the week before my wedding and then planned on using the Fast bed and the spray tan in the days before my honeymoon. Beds were great and I got a great tan for the wedding. After the wedding I went in to use the Fast bed. They told me my "around the city" package had expired. There is nothing wrong with an expiration but I was never told this. Even when I originally was trying to decide if that package was best and told the girl. She never said that wouldn't work because there was an expiration. When I was then told it was expired and I told the girl I was never told that she was a manager and should have resolved the problem. Instead she just told me the other packages I could buy. Because of this, I had to go to another salon and pay $55 for a spray tan. Very disappointing that these girls can't make the effort to make customers happy. read more

Love this place! The prices are awesome and most of the staff is really kind, however, I say most because one of the girls who works almost everyday is extremely inconsiderate and needs to smile more. She barely even says hi. If I had any advice to the owner, it would be to replace her! read more

I have not had a good experience with Sun Tan City. I hate to write reviews like this but I'm so frustrated with this company. They have nice products and good variety of tanning beds but it's not worth it for what I went through. When I first signed up I signed up towards the end of the month because I only needed a 1 month commitment because I was getting married in one month and WAS NOT INTERESTED in continuing a membership. I told them this when I signed up- they said not a problem I would just have to cancel it at the end of next month so I'm not charged again (okkk?) So anyway- they swipe my credit card (- charged me for 1 month of tanning and a lotion I purchased) and my credit card didn't go through the first swipe so she swipes it again and it's fine. I look at my statement- I WAS CHARGED TWICE! I called customer service and it took over a week for me to get refunded. and then on top of it they charged me a membership for the following month (because they charge you at 1st of every month for their membership fee)- I called back and told them my situation AGAIN how I was already charged for one month membership and I did not want to renew it again. (I did not want to pay for 2 months of tanning) The customer service rep said she put in a request for me to be refunded. A few days go by and I'm still not refunded. I contact customer service AGAIN and they tell me that the rep that helped me was no longer with the company and the refund was NEVER processed but a note was left on my account- soooooo, you were never going to tell me about my refund that didn't go through?! This has been a very irritating process- their customer service is atrocious! Not that I would never expect anything but they never even offered an additional assistance or an apology for overcharging me the first time, taking their good ol' time refunding me and then charging me for a second month that I was never interested in in the first place! I won't go through this company for tanning services again. Good products, nice hours, but not worth the money being taken. read more

Long time customer - shout out to Salon Director Ashley ! I have been coming to this tanning location off an on since 2010 throughout different ownerships. I obviously love this place. But today was hands down the best and most memorable experience I had (out of possibly hundreds). I was helped by Ashley and she seriously exceeded my expectations. I was planning on walking in, dropping about $35 on one tan, and being on my way. Ashley immediately told me about all of the deals she had going on, and I ended up getting a great discount on a monthly membership, cool eyewear, and a really nice bottle of lotion. Her sales expertise and knowledge of every aspect of the product was clearly evident, and on top of that she was enthusiastic and warm. She walked me through multiple options for pricing and memberships and pulled a few bottles of lotion off the shelves according to my needs and let me smell and look at them. All pretty standard customer service stuff, but Ashley really took the time to make my experience unique and personalized. I felt so special! They are lucky to have Ashley. read more

I have been a member at Sun Tan City for a little over a year now! It's very cheap, great deals, and overall I very clean salon! Also I always get the results that I need! I live in Roxborough but work in Philadelphia so it is extremely convenient that I am able to travel between both salons! Never had a complaint about this salon until recently! Although I absolutely love this salon the owners need to find some new employees, one girl who is there everyday during the week (I'm guessing she's the new manager) never even cracks a smile.. She is not nice what so ever.. At first I just thought she was maybe having a bad week but it was every time I went in, even some of my friends have said it. Never tells me about deals or upcoming events, I don't find out about promotions until I go to the Sun Tan City right off the blvd (which is where the old Roxborough manager works..love her!) Would get five stars if they improve on their employees! But other than that I highly recommend!! read more
