I mean it wasn't like we we're being whisked away to China or anything. There were remnants that we were still in Arana Hills. Like the drunken Aussie tip rats on the other side of the room. I appreciate a BYO restaurant, but why do some people think is necessary to bring a bottle of Bundy Red? Anyway, the waiters were quick and service was friendly and our orders didn't take much time to turn around. For the appetisers, our spring rolls and din sums were cooked perfectly. Once those were finished it was another ten minutes until mains came out. Everything that was placed in front of us looked fresh and delectable. Everything from the stir-fry to the noodle dishes was delicious, even the fried rice was good enough to eat on its own. Not even the quasi-racist passively aggressive ranting of the she-tip-rat could ruin our meal. On our way out we thanks the owner for the food, and he apologised for the tip rats. Apparently they're regulars.

Tonight I paid, $17.50 for take away Chicken Almond & a small steamed rice that is an appropriate portion for one hungry adult or two not so hungry adults. Is it just me or does that seem excessive? Don't get me wrong, I was really hungry and still have half the stir fry left, but still, I found it a little more pricey than what I'm used to. The almonds were halved, well roasted but certainly not plentiful enough to justify sharing the title. The chicken was cooked well. The vegetables in the mix were a combination of incredibly under and over over cooked. The most exciting and mind blowing aspect of this dish, was the sauce and it's complete lack of flavour! How'd they do it? Even the the ingredients natural sweetness had been eliminated! Probably the blandest tasting stir fry I have ever had! Fascinating. Needless to say, I had to add spices to it to sass it up a little bit. The rice was prepared well. The service was quick and the staff were easy to deal with. The restaurant itself, seems to be a clean and pleasant establishment. I'd like to eat in and update this review and some point. I really feel like there is a lot more they can do, although consistency is important in my book.

When I called them to find out WTF they said because it's a meat dish with no vegetables they only half fill it!! Really for $17 you only put about 200g in a container!! There was only enough for one person at the most and that's being generous!! Most disgusting excuse for short changing a customer I've ever seen. I would have taken it back and asked for my money back but that unfortunately wasn't an option!! I'm not one to usually ever complain so that's how annoyed I am with this company. If they think it's ok to do this then I think it's ok to tell everyone about them!!

Don't get me wrong, the service is friendly and fast but taste wise is where they have let me down. Across the majority of dishes I have tried, the taste is fairly safe. By this I mean, there is nothing that stands out. Not the sauce or meat or vegetables. Sometimes I feel that I could have quickly knocked up some of the dishes at home. However, no matter my general feelings of 'meh', towards Ocean's, they are in demand. The reason why I have eaten here so much despite my resevations is that my wife's family loves this place and wont hear a bad word about it. So in the sake of fairness, it just gets a pass from me.

It's conveniently located in Carseldine Central where parking is plentiful. I wasn't expecting too much when we went there, and I was pleasantly surprised by the food. The dumplings were excellent, and the mains were awesome. The Sichuan beef stir fry, salt and pepper calamari and satay chicken were particular standouts. The drinks were made from scratch and were refreshing and scrumptious! I loved the Lychee twist and Lemon Lime and Bitters. Service was friendly and attentive, making this restaurant a good alternative to Sunnybank where service is an afterthought (and often feels like taking a trip to Timbuktu). This restaurant is a great addition to the Northside culinary scene and I expect this eatery to become more popular as time goes by.

We paid for a banquet that included some of the tastiest entree's I've had in ever. Some of the hotpots that were ordered would put some of the restaurants in China Town to shame. The staff is extra friendly and kept filling up our water or wine glasses without any request from the party. They were even extra tolerant when one of the more intoxicated in our group started to get a little out of hand. When the mains came out I think there a moment where there were very few words said between the fifteen of us. For those five or so minutes you could feel the rest of the patrons enjoying their meals. For me the sizzling steak was a winner I could have eaten another ten plates of that. However, the one person who decided to buy Peking Duck that night left a sad man due to letting others pick apart his meal like addicted scavengers. Let me say it was delicious.

I didn't want Chinese, but he offered to pay for everything. Win for me I guess. He made the order over the phone and in twenty minutes he sent me down to pick it up. He was paying. When I got to Willow Garden there was a substantial body of people dining in, mainly families. I got to the counter and proceeded in the steps to get out takeaway. After a few attempts of communication with the lady behind the counter, we finally managed to bridge our language barriers. Ten minutes later, with food in hand I was back at my friends place. The servings were more than generous. Willow Garden didn't hold back on filling our containers with delicious food. The flavours, however, were pretty crazy. I sometimes felt that one dish was too sweet and another too salty. The fired rice was ok, but I had the feeling that some of the ingredients were from packet mixes of veges or something. Even though I didn't spend any money, I felt it was worth it. Perhaps my review is also bias because I didn't feel like Chinese that evening. Anyway, my friends stands by Willow Garden.
