Angela and her husband have been running it for over 20 years and the quality remains superb. For a special occasion try the Peking duck where the whole duck is brought to the table and the skin carved off and served on small pancakes with hoisin sauce and spring onion, then the rest of the duck is taken to the kitchen and made into a delicious San Choy bow. On more normal visits the salt and pepper pork ribs are definitely worth having, as is the sizzling steak and the hot and sour soup - or in fact just about anything on the menu. The service is also exceptional. Hot towels are provided to freshen up, and they are hot! At the end of the meal the ladies at the table are each presented with a single rose. Try the crepes Suzette for dessert - I know they're not Chinese, but a great theatrical experience as they are prepared at your table, as are the liqueur coffees. We have been going there regularly for over 10 years and have never found a better. Last visit we just asked Angela to decide the meal for us and she served us two delicious dishes that weren't on the menu, so we'll definitely be trying that again.

I was brought up on Kantong. Every family has their own little rituals, and well, whenever I go to…read moremy folks for dinner, we always get Kantong, put on a cheesy action movie and have a Chinese feast carpet picnic in the lounge room. Kantong is a stalwart of the Everton Shopping Village. Other shops come and go, but I'm fairly sure Kantong will always be there. It is, by far, the best Chinese place in this particular northern pocket. Highlights on the menu include the curry puffs ($5.50) which are always crispy, and make the most satisfying CRUNCH noise when you bite into them. I always opt for the Beef and Black Bean ($10.00), and occasionally I'll splash out and get the sweet and sour pork ($10.00). Also, I don't know what it is about their fried rice ($5.90), but I could eat buckets of it in one sitting. For you seafood fiends out there, you'll be happy to know they have a wide range of fantastic seafood options. Hell, there's five different options for scallops alone! If you call ahead, they're good at giving you a good approximate time to come and pick it up. If you eat in, enjoy the humble and relaxed setting. I reckon almost everyone living in this pocket of the northern suburbs would have Kantong on auto dial. Best part? When we call, they know us by the sound of our voice. There's nothing like being able to say 'the usual'. Yes!

I've only ordered from this place once and I wasn't disappointed at all. Over the phone the lady…read morewas really polite. She made me feel like I was the most important customer she had. When I drove over and picked up my food she kept the same attitude, that was reassuring that she cared about her customers. There's not much I can add to what's already been stated. However I will say that if you order from Kan Tong I recommend that on the appetiser side you go with the beef satays skewars. They're always tender and the sauce is one of the best I have ever had in Brisbane. On the Mains, I can never go past the chicken in black pepper sauce. The spice is just the right amount and the sauce is nice and thick coating all the meat and vegetables. Do yourself a favour and hit them up.

We are new to the area and googled for a great Chinese restaurant. Golden Bamboo came up with…read moreoverall fairly good reviews. So $96 later and we had our takeaway order. The service was ok. Although we asked for no onion and this appeared to annoy the chef. However, that's where it took a very bad turn for the worse. The food tasted odd from the outset. The Honey Chicken was soggy, the oyster sauce chinese veg were so bloody salty that they were verging on inedible. The satay chicken sticks had the worst texture that one bite in it was promptly spat back out. Two out of the four of us threw up after 30mins of eating. I won't say this is the worst chinese we have ever eaten. But it comes a very close second. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place.

Without a doubt best chinese restaurant/takeaway in North Brisbane. Prices are really good and suitable for a family of 4 or 3 adults to dine in under $100. You wont leave hungry. Offstreet parking at rear and opposite Sue's corner at Beams and Sandgate Rds Boondall. Yep I drive over 7klms to use this business. Try takeaway and then eat overlooking the water at Cabbage Tree Creek Shorncliffe on nights of the full moon. never had a bad meal or poor customer service. Worthy of 5 stars but need to be realistic.

The staff collecting the dirty dishes was a lot quieter than the managers. He was just throwing them in making a hell of a row. Although I have never…read moreseen John here (damn) I did take his advice and order the quail - which if you are patient enough to pick through the tiny little bones - is pretty tasty. I do not usually go to Aspley Oriental for the dinner menu however - I go for Yum Cha! Yummm cha!! The lovely little dumplings and mango pancakes that come rolling past on cute little trolleys send my tastebuds into a frenzy! I love the prawn gow gees, the pork and peanut dumplings and the vegetarian spring rolls. On the downside, the manager sits Westerners and Chinese in different areas and the Chinese area gets priority, sometimes all the good things are gone or cold which is quite annoying. Aspley Oriental is probably the most expensive Yum Cha restaurant I have been too which is also a bit of a bummer. It is best to go on the weekends as there is much more variety, you do have to wait outside for a while though unfortunately. The food is good though, and worth the wait.
