His pride in the lodge is evident, and I especially appreciated his honesty--he'll be the first to tell you this isn't a luxury four-star hotel. Instead, it's something even more memorable: a comfortable, safe, welcoming lodge full of character. It's like your favorite well-worn pair of slippers or a cozy blanket--relaxed, familiar, and exactly where you want to unwind after a busy day. Dennis runs the bar like Cheers--before long, everyone knows your name. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and it's easy to strike up conversations with both locals and fellow travelers. The rooms are basic but clean, the beds are comfortable, the water pressure is fantastic, and fresh towels are provided every day (thank you Terri!). We also loved the restaurant and bar, especially the daily specials like Meatball Monday, Taco Tuesday, and Burger Wednesday. The food was consistently delicious and reasonably priced.

Upper Pass is a very nice ski lodge with a nice Vermont feel. The room was spacious and clean and in addition to the main bedroom there was a smaller bedroom with bunk beds and a sink. The decor was nice without being overbearing. Plenty of room, good TV, a desk and couple of comfortable beds. The bathroom was fine with a good shower. There was a small coffee maker in the room and they also stocked the room with some breakfast bars. The rooms do not have a refrigerator or microwave. In the lobby of the lodge is the Red Slate restaurant and bar which are not open on Monday or Tuesday. There is also a nice living room with a fireplace, couches and lots of games. Upper Pass Lodge is an excellent option if you are looking to stay in the Londonderry area. The lodge is welcoming and friendly, it has a great feel as an independent hotel, plus on the times I have stayed it has offered outstanding value for lodging on a Vermont ski trip. Okemo is about 1/2 hour away and Mount Snow is a bit further. The Upper Pass Lodge does hospitality right.

You are familiar with the phrase "put lipstick on a pig?" Sometimes you end up with a beautiful…read morepig, actually. Such is the case with the Brittany, which is an old-school 10-room motor lodge of the type that used to be operated as a Ma-and-Pa business by owners who lived above the office and did all the work themselves. Many of these hotels have disappeared, most that remain are of somewhat questionable quality. Not so the Brittany: it has been reasonably spruced up and operated on a streamlined basis, such that (seriously, to my surprise) I had a better two-day stay than I had at the last two Hampton Inns I've stayed at. As noted, this is a self-service motel (it's so lo-fi, I'm tempted to call it a lo-tel) where you get a text with your room code and number and you let yourself in. The rooms are basic but comfortable (this may be the only hotel I've ever stayed at that didn't have "hotel art" on the walls, which was honestly kind of a pleasant change of pace). There is a breakfast room of sorts -- "The Gathering Place" -- which is a converted former room that has a cold a la carte self-serve selection of things. (The hotel is refreshed mysteriously while guests are out and about; I was up at 5 AM and the coffee, according to the machine, had been made nine minutes earlier, but I never even saw an extra car in the parking lot. Stealthy!) I wish the Gathering Place had been open a bit later than it was, as I wanted to play one of the games I had spotted at breakfast, but using Elf labor probably requires they lock it up a bit earlier. Similarly, there's a nice fire pit with a mountain view and adirondack chairs out front, but it's a mystery as to how one might use the fire pit without logs and such available. (BYO Duraflame?) The setting is quite peaceful, and while I could hear stirrings from the room adjacent -- there's only so much you can do with old construction to soundproof it -- the other occupants were quite quiet. Around you is a whole lot of nothing, although it's just a few minutes south of Manchester center, so getting provisions is easy. No microwaves in the rooms, but there's a mini-fridge, stocked with some complimentary water. The TV was also the tiniest screen I've seen in a room since CRT TVs went by the wayside, but all I wanted to watch was the Red Sox game, and they had NESN, so I soldiered on. There are a few other nits I could pick, but the old-school full-sized bathtub was a pleasant surprise and a big upgrade over all the identical awful shower-only bathrooms in almost every hotel around these days, so I will gloss over those nits. One particular kudos on the amenities: there was herb tea with the self-serve coffee! THANK YOU! It's appreciated by those of us who like a nice tisane before going to sleep. So this isn't a five-star hotel like the Four Seasons, but it's a five star motel within its class - decent value for the money, well-operated, quiet. The quiet part is all I really want from a hotel stay (that and having a door that locks correctly) and the lovely surroundings and the very very low key breakfast were big plusses.

Bruce and Emily and the staff, plus their three beautiful girls, make this a great experience. We used the spa and it was okay. The gym is large and well equipped. I had a massage which was okay. The room I was in had a window which faced the road and the traffic noise was louder than the spa music that was playing so didn't lend itself to relaxing. The massage was over $200 so I didn't think it was a great value because I didn't really feel fully relaxed after it. Ask for a treatment room on the pool side of the building if possible. We ate at the restaurant and it was pretty good. Prices were high but seemed to be about on par with another meal we had in the area. Service was nice. Our room was okay...very spacious but the lack of outlets is tough to manage in 2025 with so many devices to charge. I understand the building is very old so I get that there aren't a lot of plugs. My Verizon connectivity was terrible in the whole area and due to a wide-scale outage, Wifi was not working when I was there, which was problematic because I had to take a business call. That and a couple of other issues with our room led to us leaving early to find someplace that had a working Wifi connection but I have to say the staff were helpful and understanding. It was the off season and I think maybe they were a little short staffed but I get that it's tough for businesses these days. Overall, this place was fine and it is very beautiful.

The setting is beautiful, and the property has a lot of history -- over 125 years old and once belonging to Governor Fletcher, with only 12 rooms. Unfortunately, our stay was very disappointing. We checked into Room #9 and right away noticed issues. The bathroom door lock was broken, and I ended up getting stuck inside until my husband let me out. There were also many dead bees on the floor when we arrived, and by the next morning we saw live bees in the room. Since the windows didn't open, I had no choice but to kill them. Service was limited -- no housekeeping even when requested, and the hotel felt very understaffed (likely because it was off-season). The spa treatment was okay, but there was only one massage therapist available. The pool area was relaxing, but that was the highlight. The bee problem got so bad that we cut our stay short. Although we had booked for three nights, we left after just a day and a half, checking out at 9 p.m. on the second night because it became unmanageable. Staff sent a technician, but the only solution offered was to spray, and the bees kept coming back. The environment and historic charm are wonderful, but the property isn't being maintained to the level it deserves. Sadly, I don't see myself returning.

Like, you walk in...the keys to your room are in a basket with a piece of paper on the counter, name on that as well. It's very weird. I guess the ...the future? Lemme say a few things..good and bad about that. The Good! Ok...super convenient. In.....and OUT! You drop your key in the basket and bounce. No check-in or check-out. But see! AH! There is also some bad to that...."bad" FOREVER we have ALL dealt with front desk employees. So...we all have gotten used to that, right? Of course. There is some kind of comfort in having a front desk employee there. Thats about all the good...I would say lol The BAD! What if you lock your key in your room on accident? You are basically screwed. Not sure if there is a way to contact anyone to get you back in and yes....they are actual keys! Not the little cards we all see at regular, mainstream hotels. I DID! lock my key in the room the following morning. THANKFULLY! there was ONE employee there...BUT she was there to make the continental breakfast...which I will talk about in a min. She was able to give me my spare key. Thank God. If you need something in the middle of the night...oh well. There is no one there to assist you. They tell you where extra towels are and stuff like that on the paper you get when you check yourself in. It's an Inn...and Inn very close to the slopes. So when there is actual snow and the place is packed....I would assume its similar to being in a college dorm lol Don't get me wrong tho, place is very homey. The common room is incredible and I kept imaging it when I was there....FK! this would be so much fun during ski season and this place is full of people! HOWEVER! People drink and drink a lot. The walls here are THIIIIIIIIN!!! So be prepared for that! BRING. EAR. PLUGS! and use the in room ac unit for the fan to drown out noise from other rooms. You will need it. The views from the rooms are beyond incredible. I have some attached. Beautiful views of the slopes and in the Fall...the colors. The breakfast! FKN! INCREDIBLE!!! She put out all the basics, bagels and whatnot, full muffins...amazing! She made these cinnamon muffins....SO. GOOD!! I too a few home with me to give to my mom haha! Overall, it's a great place. Really is. I would definitely stay again. OH! They allow dogs....for a fee of course...even the super tiny ones. They will know too if you have a dog with you. Cameras....everywhere. It's located on a busy road..so keep a close eye on those pups. The grounds around the Inn are amazing. Cute little pond out back, sitting areas all around. It's a wonderful place. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone going through Manchester or anywhere near there. Very unique experience. I honestly can't remember ever staying at an Inn before. We saw no reason to return other than it was open and had no obvious competition in Jamaica. I think it's hooked to a bed and breakfast or perhaps only a bed without breakfast. This place was under construction for at least 5 years and people in the area were excited when it opened. I guess under our tax laws it finally had to turn a profit of at least a dollar so they slapped together this space and put fries and a sandwich as their menu. Perhaps this restaurant needs a cook and a menu.
