my name is anthony kuchar . i want to relate a very bad and almost life ending experience i had…read morewithh starr automotve . i had brake work done about 10 days ago on my wifesc 2013,kia optima . the new brake caliper they installed on the left rear fell complete off the rotor and all my brake fluid shot out and i lost my brakes entirely . which happened as i was heading west on rt. 303 . i was in a 50 mph zone heading to get on 480 west bound . the last traffic light before you enter i 480 turned red . as i applied the brakes firmly the pedal went to the floor . a semi truck was making a left-hand turn in front of me which i was unable to stop for . i was flashing my bright lights and thank god the semi driver saw this and stopped before completing the turn right in front of me. i was able to turn to the right up the side street and again thanks to god there were no cars waiting on the side street for the light and i was able to stop on the opposite lane of the side street 2ft. from the curb . i was able to get the car into the sheets gas station on the corner . i then called my son who came up to meet me . my car was only i traffic light from kia of streetsboro so we were able to very slowly and carefully get the car to the kia dealer . i called john the owner of starr automotive and told him what happened . he said tow the car over to him which would cost about $150 which i didn't have . he refused to pay for the tow . i told him he almost got me killed and i wasnt going to give him a second chance to do that . here is the worst part , upon inspection by kia the brake caliper fell off the brake rotor completly and all the brake flyid shot out causing my brakes to fail . this is all documented by kia in writing and with many pictures . the caliper was hanging from the brake hose the brake pad was gone and brake fluid had sprayed all over the underneath of my car and the wheel . i will provide written documentation and photos taken by kia as proof of this incompetent starr service shop . the owner refused to pay the bill and 3 days later finally said he would pay for the tow . i told him to little to late as kia had aready started to repair the damage johns shop had caused. he said tow it to me and i sai why so you can try and kill me again. tge results of kias inspection said improper instalation of the braje caliper . their mechanic never tightened the nuts that secure the caliper onto the brake rotor . i could never recommend these dangerously incompetent company to anyone . and the owner even after seeing all the documentation and pictures from kia still refused to reimburse me . what an unreputable business owner . i'm going to report him to the state attourney generals office of ohio . if you vakue your life or the lives of your loved oned my recommendation is never let him or his mechanics and i use that term losely ever touch your vehicle . you are welcomed to call me if you have any questions . tony kuchar. 216 390 0271

D & S received my…read morevehicle the morning of 10/29 and did not assess and submit a supplemental until 11/11 which the insurance approved immediately. D&S kept me in the loop and provided thorough information about the repairs needed and how the technicians would achieve this process in a timely manner. Once the assessment was complete, I was informed if parts came timely repairs would be done the first week of December at the top of the week and I'd be able to pick up my vehicle then. Harley did a wonderful job of communicating each step with me providing a timeline of when my vehicle would be ready. I was then informed it would take more time to put my vehicle back together than previously anticipated so my vehicle would be ready by 12/05 rather than the top of the week. Harley let me know the team was unable to complete putting my vehicle back together by EOD and my vehicle would be ready by 12/08 at the earliest and 12/09 at the latest along with approval from the insurance company of a second and final supplement for the labor to put my vehicle back together that the team did not originally anticipate. Calibrations and clean up weren't complete until 12/09. Harley then informed me the service writer was unable to finish sending the information to the insurance company by EOD 12/09. 12/10 the information / final supplement was sent over to the insurance company to review. I was finally able to pick up my vehicle 12/12 after I called the insurance company several times to expedite their review of the supplement money needed for the extra labor costs of putting my vehicle back together which D&S did not anticipate during their initial review. D&S finished calibrations and cleanup 12/09 but would not release it until they received the supplement from the insurance for the extra labor costs. The body work looks and feels amazing, you cannot tell my rear bumper was replaced. Only downsides, the technician my mom and I spoke to was unable to tell us if the vehicle had a full paint job. Once I went to my vehicle I was unable to access it as the technician forgot to take it out of service mode. I went back into the shop to find someone to take this out of service mode. My panel under my hood of car was not put back, however I popped this back on myself. I appreciate Harley's customer service and updates. The repair team unfortunately left me feeling unnerved about all the 'unexpected' extra work necessary after their review.

However, the repairs ended up taking nearly a month. For the first 8-10 days, the vehicle sat idle in the parking lot without any repair work, damage assessment, or parts evaluation being done, which significantly contributed to the delay.They may have been busy with a high volume of vehicles, this was never clearly communicated to me upfront. Luckily the car was still drivable; after dealing with the insurance company I needed to get the bumper fixed, which was actually a pretty big job since it included a number of the modern sensors to warn of blind spots and cross traffic. I went to a couple of the better collision centers near me that were highly rated on Yelp. I ended up picking LJI because they had a great facility and really took charge and reassured me that I would be in good hands. The LJI in Beachwood (they also have a facility in Cleveland Heights) is located on Chagrin just East of I-271 in the same building as Choolaah. Once inside I was very impressed with how clean and modern the shop and the office are. The waiting room is very nice and features a small boutique. Once I arranged for them to get the claim from Progressive they handled everything including setting up the rental and let me know that they could get me in the next week. Dropping off the car was easy and the rental was there and ready to go. The estimate was that the car would be ready in about 1 week and they might send it to the Cleveland Heights shop. After a week I got a call letting me know that the car should be ready the next day and then a follow up call to let me know when the car was done. Picking up the car was also easy, the cost to me was only the deductible, minimal paperwork and of course turning in the rental. The repair job was excellent, the back of the car looks brand new, in addition they actually cleaned the car inside and out. Exemplary work and a great job of going above and beyond. I really appreciate how easy they made repairing my car, the staff is great, they communicated with me when they promised and delivered as promised. LJI is clearly one of the best auto collision centers and well worth using if you need auto body work done. I would highly recommend that you consider them.
