The owner is a lovely, hard-working, beautiful woman, and she has the gift of finding talented, caring, and professional staff. The staff are well-trained and gentle with the residents. This assisted living is unique in that it employs not only caregivers but also a med tech and LVN. I worked at Sun and Sea Manor as an RN several years ago. I consider my time there as one of my favorite jobs. Staff and residents are like family, you can feel the love when you first enter. Live music, good food....it is the most home-like atmosphere I have seen in a long term facility. This is where I would want my family to be taken care of. The grounds are small and park-like. If you are looking for an Assisted Living Home for a loved one and you want a home that feels like a family home, is extremely clean all the time, healthy home made food, and an owner who is not only there but who shows love and care for each resident in "Her Home," this is the place! My husband is there, I am there almost daily and stay from 2 to 5 or more hours each visit. What I have witnessed is all the staff and owner are very attentive to every need, want, or desire. They don't pass a resident without saying something kind to them, they look them in their beautiful eyes, they touch them lovingly, and give them a kiss on their forehead. The residents are redirected so kindly, if a resident is sad they hold them in their arms and comfort them. If a resident is angry about something they do the same and find out what is bothering them, then they find a way to fix the problem no matter what it is. The front yard is beautifully landscaped, my husband gardened all the time and so many of the plants there are just what he had here at home. Our friends who have looked for the "HOME" have actually passed it several times because it doesn't look like an Assisted Living Home, it looks like a home you would want to live in yourself. Sun & Sea is very safe for Dementia victims. There is a welcoming entrance that is securely gated. Visitors have to ring a bell on the brick beside the gate and a staff member will buzz them in. You walk directly into the front patio area and the staff has your loved one meet you at the welcoming open door. Fresh air flows through the entire "HOME" all the time. They have it decorated beautifully inside. They have art classes, memory classes, singing, classical music time, fun music time, they go on walks in the neighborhood, which I even enjoy. Many of the homeowners invite the residents to pick flowers from their garden, fruit from their trees, and even step out to say hello as they pass their homes. The staff makes sure every resident there is dressed to the tee, hair combed the way the resident likes it done. There is no odor, except food being prepared. Residents are given healthy snacks every two hours, like fruit or veggies platters, home made cookies, dietary needs are watched carefully. Staff feeds the residents who cannot eat with a fork or spoon. The residents who want to help are found jobs like setting the table. Cute bibs are a diner's must to keep their clothing from getting stained, laundry is done one site. I have never seen an unmade bed, a dirty anything. There is also another patio with bright umbrellas, tables and chairs. Water or fruit juice is offered almost every minute. Watching news is encouraged, daily news papers are delivered, a shelf of books available, current magazines, and so much more. Lollie pops are often seen in a resident's mouth if they are upset and you would not believe how calming that is to them! Lollie pops! Wow would have thought? My husband gets upset when I leave, he wants me to stay with him. The staff quietly asked me to let them know when I'm ready to go and they simply direct him to something interesting to him so it is easy for me to leave smiling and him not fret because I am gone. The staff lets me know if they have any concern, like a tummy ache my husband is experiencing. Family is as important to the staff as the patient is. So are pets, I get to bring my husband's dog anytime, they encourage me to bring her because he misses her. All the residents love her there, they love running their fingers through her hair and she loves going. We looked at many facilities before we placed my husband into Sun & Sea Manor. I am so happy he is there. I know he is well cared for, treated with respect, safe, and loved. I have even found him sleeping on a sofa watching TV before bedtime, just like at home. Our family members are so comfortable there that they love visiting. Our grandchildren go to see Grandpa and love it too, even our 5 year old grandchild. Staff have their children come, elderly people love kids and their children feel love from the attention they get from the residents. There are residents that have been there for years. I find myself greeting each by name. Some want a gentle kiss on their forehead from me, or a hug. you cannot help but fall in love with them all. Oh, and the cook...the friendliest! The doctors tell me that my husband will live a long life to come. I am so happy that since I cannot care for him at home, I know he is at Sun & Sea Manor and they will care for him throughout his life. And they will miss him as much as me and our children. grandchildren and probably great grandchildren when his time does come. Thank you for reading this long tribute to Sun & Sea Manor.
