Enjoyed my meal here. It's a Hare Krishna place, which means it's low-cost Indian-inspired food,…read morecooked for the masses and served buffet-style. Lots of curries and things like that. You pay one flat fee and it's all-you-can-eat. Govinda's is a bit more special than most Hare Krishna places, though, in that it's a little bit better quality and has way more of a range of options. It has one bar devoted to salads and their dressings (fresh green mixed salads, couscous salads, quinoa salads, etc.) and one bar devoted to hot foods (pasta, several types of curries, samosas and other fried snacks, and a sweet dessert). Govinda's is also one of the only vegetarian places in Surfers Paradise, and as it is 100% vegan, you don't have to worry about sneaky dairy or egg ingredients when you order. The downside of all this is it is more expensive than most Hare Krishna places -- the ones in other cities tend to be in the $9-12 range (even as low as $6.50 here in Melbourne). We paid $16.90 each here at Govinda's! We were hungry so it was worth it -- we filled our plates once at the salad bar, then went back and filled our plates again at the hot cooked food bar, and then finally a third time for dessert. Some of the options were better than others. I really loved the satay peanut sauce at the salad bar -- I drenched my quinoa salad and green salad in it. Delicious stuff. I also enjoyed the lentil curry, and the fried pakora was super yum. I wasn't as wild about the pasta -- it was very plain. But in general, everything was tasty. The dessert was halwa (semolina pudding with sweet sauce) -- not very pretty to look at, but tasty. If you don't want to spring for the all-you-can-eat, you can also order individual plates of things, but it didn't look like it was as good a value for your money. You can also order at an extra cost any desserts from their display case and any extra drinks as well. (Free tap water otherwise.) Service was a bit blunt as it often is in this type of place. But not too bad. Atmosphere-wise, very similar to lots of Hare Krishna places, although this one had very little religious messaging on the walls, very unobtrusive -- most people would never guess it was a Hare Krishna place. Nice enough seating and decor, and very clean. I loved all the colorful throw pillows against the benches. Definitely recommend if you're in Surfers looking for a healthy, filling meal that won't break the bank.

Definitely a nice change from all the super-trendy, super-sleek Broadbeach eateries surrounding this place. The Cardamom Pod is charming without trying to be trendy or upmarket. Both times I went, I got a mix of things from the display case with rice and a savoury pie. This is a vegetarian restaurant, but they have clearly-marked vegan options and their staff knows what "vegan" means. Unfortunately, the two nights I went, the vegan stuff was mostly already gone, so I didn't have much of a selection. So vegans might want to make this more of a lunch or early-evening stop rather than heading in after 7pm like I did. On the flip side, because they were trying to get rid of their remaining food before closing, I did get a nice discount :) Food was tasty and filling, not amazing, but nice. My mom (who is not a vegan or vegetarian) got the non-vegan lasagne and raved about it. Only downside is it did seem like their regular prices are a little steep. Then again, this is a touristy area and most people around here are on holiday and willing to splash a little cash. Will definitely go back the next time I'm in the Gold Coast!

I was not let down! I got a cute little table in the super adorable boho styled restaurant. I prefered the order at the counter and sit down type of style for lunch, as it gets kind of lonely when you have table service for one all the time. So I was happy that was the case here! #travellife I got the three entree plate and holy sh*t that was a good idea. I had a salad, an indian rice, and a veggie curry. I seriously ate that in less than a minute, it was so good. I also got a chai latte because those are always good, but I seriously ate my lunch before that chai came out. Good thing about chai is that it can also act as dessert, but I decided to go full force and get a vegan ice cream sundae also because I was starving and I can't turn down vegan desserts. I saw the looks of jealousy from the tables next to me. I was so happy to have my first vegan ice cream sundae in the two and a half years I've been vegan. As much as I tried, I could not finish that thing, so I took the brownie to go and it was a great snack later on the bus (where I also received looks of jealousy). I'd totally recommend the Cardamom Pod for a casual lunch in Gold Coast. I'd say the only drawback was that it was a tad pricy, but the vegan options and super cute ambiance make up for that.

Brunch of champions…read more.. Often the vacation plot goes you party all night to wake up late. Is missing breakfast a good thing? Never. But you can always have breakfast for lunch or breakfast for dinner. But today, for some Bizarro reason, it's only 11:00 AM, and I wish not to eat breakfast, especially when I see a gorgeous lunch menu item at The Pantry Cafe. My item of choice seems bizarre; but once tasting it, my salivation glands hold onto a good omen of delicious textures and flavors. Are you ready? Octopus Salad. Lightly crisped baby tentacles, mild leafy greens, a bird's nest of fried noodles and a tangy, memorable Asian-inspired vinaigrette. I can't continue ignoring breakfast, my favorite meal of the day. I give in. I order a second helping. They call it, Mushroom on Rye. A gorgeous poached egg with hollandaise rests on golden button mushrooms, over traditional rye toast. Simple, hearty, and satisfying. Coming back to reality, I wonder, sometimes, how I end up in specific locations, such as Burleigh Heads, Australia...for Christmas. Epic!

The menu is full of great lunch options--lots of salads and hot food--but take my advice and order the grilled baby octopus salad. You'll get an absolute mountain of crispy grilled marinated octopi on delicious spinach salad with feta, crisped noodles, red onion, capsicum and juicy olives. It's dressed with an insanely delicious sweet balsamic and chili dressing. Not to the most atmospheric cafe in the world, but worth it for the baby octopus.

It's a rarity to find a pub or bar in the hustle and bustle of Surfers Paradise where the staff actually enjoy working there. It definitely makes a difference to the venue's vibe! The bar staff also enjoy a good chat and a bit of banter across the bar and this is one of the few Irish pubs in Surfers that actually employees Irish people! Not only adding to the atmosphere, but it means there are staff who can actually pour a good pint of Guinness! There is live music most nights of the week from 9pm, with a band on every Friday and Saturday night. True to their roots there is also traditional Irish entertainment there every Sunday afternoon. In terms of food it has a great range of pub style food at great prices. I've found the food to always be amazing, even the specials (usually $10-15) are spot on! You definitely can't go past the $10 steaks that they do for lunch and dinner! One of the main things that I LOVE about the food here is that they stick to what they're good at; good quality pub-style food at a reasonable price! This is a great pub that caters for everyone, from families, to older couples and young 20-somethings looking for a good night out, there is something for everyone in Fiddlers. This is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of the owners and management! See you there!

After living in Los Angeles where we had a lot of Mexican food on offer even the fast-food takeaways and food trucks which were at least far better quality and much cheaper than this poor imitation. 2 burritos, chips and queso $34 AUD ($27 USD/£20GBP) crazy!!
