They purport to offer legit Thai food that is also vegan-friendly, with fish-free preparations and tons of mock meat on the menu. Nonetheless, when I ordered a curry with tofu, they asked if I was sure I didn't want any meat; it was an odd service experience punctuated by long waits but finished with some extra rice to take home with my leftovers. The dish I ordered, a red curry stir fry called a pad ped that I had not eaten before, was really quite delicious, setting aside the few unwanted pieces of broccoli. I asked for it spicy and enjoyed a healthy, sustained burn. I ordered coconut rice rather than regular, and while it of course looked as white as any other rice, it was quite filling and had a sweet aroma to it. Besides the unusual setting and somewhat iffy service, they have a high card minimum (fortunately I carry cash). The bottom line though, is that what I ate was good enough, and what was offered on the menu was enough to my tastes, that I would happily return to try something else.

Recently someone who had been to Oz Thai at Palm Beach recommended it to us as their go-to restaurant on their way home so we gave it a try...and we're so glad we did. We ordered ahead of their 5 p.m. opening time, with a Yellow Chicken Curry and a Massaman Beef Curry for pick-up, along with Fish Cakes, and the dishes were simply outstanding. A great team in a small kitchen is cranking out some of the best Thai food this side of Bangkok, with an attention to detail of sauces, ingredients and more, and we commented that we had never experienced anything like this before on the Gold Coast when it came to Thai food.
