Don't let the unusual exterior fool you--this place is great. (I think the building used to be a Subway restaurant and it has been redone.) I always get the hibachi chicken and the portions are HUGE. I like that you can add an appetizer (egg roll or dumplings) and a drink to make it a combo for like $2.50. They have a condiment bar with sauces and also have yum yum sauce behind the counter. Two come included with your meal. As far as fast-food style hibachi, this is the best I've had. The customer service is great and the price is right. read more

Sumo Hibachi & Wings - Hibachi chicken, veggies, and fried rice, with dumplings. And yum yum sauce. - Japanese Near Me - Gainesville, Georgia

I visited a year or so again and now I remember exactly why. This place used to be busy all the time and now there was no one in there. The wings are not fresh. The last two times I have gone to this restaurant. The first time I got them and they were not fresh. I brought them to the attention of the manager. He got an attitude with me stating they were freshly cooked. He gave me a refund, and I vowed to never come back. Well I forgot and came back. What a mistake. They passes off old wings, refried wings as fresh wings. These wings had to have been cooked yesterday. They're very hard very dry and looks like the chickens were abused before they were killed or this meat is not thawed out properly because it's white meat. It should not be dark and the bone should not be bloody neither should the meat. They tell you it takes 15 to 20 minutes before your order is ready but it shouldn't because these wings have been cooked before. Customer service was good this time. I will not return again. I'm going to make sure I review this before I consider ever coming back. read more

The wings alone 10/10 great flavor fried perfectly. The rice is a no for me it's not giving fried rice and it's a million onions.

We're continuing our quest to discover a decent wings place in south Gainesville/Oakwood area. We tried Hibachi and Wings this evening. It is self service but they prompt you for a tip when you checkout. The fried rice was not fried at all. It's the typical ripoff steamed rice with soy sauce added in it to make you think by its color that it had been fried. The steak - I don't even know to describe it but to say that it's basically beef jerky. About 2mm thick. There are signs all over the place saying "do not do this..." and "do that". The kind of behavior that a failing business exhibits as it approaches the throes of death and has given up on any mode of customer service. The best way to describe the ambiance is to compare it to a garage floor at a quick lube. Filthy unsealed cement floor. I really try to find some positive words for every review, but here I am at a loss for words. They don't even have Diet Coke. Adding insult to injury, this is NOT an inexpensive restaurant. Save yourself. Stay away! read more

I came here after reading the good reviews, now here's the thing... maybe it's just me that has a different pallet but I felt everything was super bland, the rice had no salt or much flavor, the chicken and sauce weren't up to par either. The wings were horrible. I expected them to be crispy but instead they were covered in what seemed just lemon juice and made them super soggy and very little meat on the chicken. Over all I gave this place 3 stars because they were very nice and clean, but unfortunately I won't be coming back. *everything looks better in pictures but don't let that fool you!* read more

On time delivery, actually it might have been early. Lots of choices at reasonable prices. *Huge* portions, tasted good. Delivery did not come with napkins or utensils so I had to get them from somewhere else. My food didn't seem to be cooked to order (?), but like I said, it still tasted good. I got noodles (japchae), chicken hibachi with veg fried rice, dumplings, and egg rolls. I also got sweet tea, lemonade, and water. The water was in a large cup. The sweet tea and lemonade were delicious. I ended up mixing them too. read more

Sumo Hibachi & Wings - Beef Jap Chae and Hibachi (chicken) with Fried Rice (veg) - Japanese Near Me - Gainesville, Georgia

Came for dinner Wednesday night. The person behind the counter consistently put her fingers in her mouth and bit her nails and cuticles. She never washed her hands, and proceeded to touch several customers plates. The owner should be advised that he has a disgusting pig working there. read more

Paid for extra veggies on my hibachi chicken and they gave me a mountain of cabbage and no other veggies. The chicken was extremely dry and tough, like it was leftover from lunch and just sitting. I've had decent food from here until today and I'm not sure I'll be returning. read more

Sumo Hibachi & Wings - Fantastic food!! - Japanese Near Me - Gainesville, Georgia

Employees are really friendly. Nice clean establishment. Food is made fresh. The wing and rice combo is a good deal with a good amount of wings (10) and fried rice for the price. We ordered from here frequently. read more

Wow!! A whole in the wall, but what a great find!! My wife and I ordered the chicken and Steak hibachi and it was honestly better than many sit down, "cook in front of you" Hibachi spots. The flavors were rich and not overwhelming. The the chicken and steak were juicy and enjoyable to eat. We had the pot stickers on the side. The crust/wrapper was nice and crispy, and the inside was nice and juicy and with really good flavor. We are definitely adding this to our list of spots to come back to!! Thank you for the great customer service as well!! The cashier walked us through all our questions and treated us with so much respect!! Love love love this place!! read more

Mom got the hibachi chicken and shrimp and omg it was so good the sauce was sweet and savory, and I got the fried rice house which was good but was lil dry and doesn't come with the same sauce butttt was still good. read more

I love this place. I love going there with my husband and eating all of the yummy food. My favorite thing to order is the steak and chicken hibachi and the fried wontons. Only problem I have an is not really a big huge problem is that the veggies are sometime a little cold but the flavor of the food makes it a five star. read more

The food is really good and runs about 10.50 for a meal and a drink. I usually get the chicken or shrimp hibachi which is awesome. And the egg-roll combo which I really like. The food is good and the servings are large if you order in. A regular spot for me!!! read more

Good wings but not worth being spoken to rudely and be treated with such rudeness. As soon as u walk In you can tell they hate being there or just hate life in general even when asking nicely, They get mad when u ask for extra sauce or anything. Definitely not welcoming vibes. Do better with staffing Humble humans. read more

Great quick hibachi spot. Fried dumplings were good and pleasantly surprised that they were not dripping in oil, they were good. The portions were good size. I actually think if I wanted a light lunch/dinner I would split with someone else. The noodle are good, the upcharge is worth it. It is small inside and they would benefit from a drive thru window. Loved it. I will be back when I'm in area. read more

Stopped here based on yelp reviews. Ordered the Steak Hibachi with fried rice and fried dumplings. Meal was a let down. Got plenty of food. The veggies were cabbage, carrot, and broccoli. Only had 2-3 very small florets. Other than that, the veggies were good. The were cooked well; not mushy and had had some flavor. The dumplings were pretty good. Wrapper wasn't dense. Filing had flavor as well. The rice was nothing special, but no real complaints. I had expected the steak to be cubed sirloin, but it wasn't. it was sliced meat -- possibly same stuff used for cheesesteak sandwiches. The main problem I had is that the meat was drenched in a terriyaki sauce. The sauce was OK; might have been good if there wasn't so much of it. Hibachi I've had other places was always cubed sirloin with just a slight glaze of sauce on the meat. Next time I'm in Gainesville I'd rather try a different place then go back for a repeat visit. read more

It was alright. I got chicken and shrimp hibachi and it made me feel sick so I couldn't finish my meal. Some chicken had either hard pieces in it or fat pieces. And the shrimp wasn't deveined so that made me lose my appetite. The flavor of the food was good and the fried rice was delicious. Also got it to go and they didn't give me a fork or anything to eat it with which was annoying. Probably won't come back here it's a little out of my way for some mediocre food. read more

The food is good, but the website is not correct with prices and when you address the issue at the store, because you got charged more, the manager and staff are very rude, and don't care. They said it usually causes problems so I suggested they let people know. They said not their problem. read more

Steak and shrimp was cooked perfectly and even accommodated for sauce on the side and no rice (subbed extra veges instead ^_^) Great food for a great price! Loved all the sauce choices too! read more

This place is amazing! STAFF: The staff are always welcoming, sweet, and efficient with their work. You don't ever have to be nervous to ask them questions, and they are pretty patient and informational when you order. Love them! FOOD: I love their food! I've eaten here often and everytime I have, my food has been hot and comes out pretty fast! It has bigger portions so usually I can take about half of my meal home and eat it for dinner. It's amazing quality. ESTABLISHMENT: Every time I have been inside everything has been clean. They are well stocked if you need anything, and you can always ask for extras for your meal. The bathrooms are also very clean as well. read more

The food is great and all but when u miss up a order and refused to remake the food that's a problem. This place really surprised me. I expected it to have a dark cringe ambiance as of an old Pizza Hut. It was more of a Panda Express, but really good. I wouldn't say it's as good as Kiku or shogun or a sit down hibachi, but it's hands down the best quick Asian food I've ever had. It's also real cheap. It stays busy over there for a reason. ALSO it feels really clean in there read more
