What happened to this place? Terrible customer service, They don't tell you before you drive there it is an 8 hour wait, They have pot a potties in the parking lot, not to mention there is no parking. You have to call in to let them know you are there. The building is locked up. The other thing is the phone keeps cutting off. Had to call back 5 times. CMON MAN...Get it together or shut down. read more

Can't say enough about the amazing staff at Sumner Veterinary Hospital starting with the front desk. We came in with our friend's dog who had ingested a whole chocolate cake. Because time was of essence they rushed the dog into the back to start treatments. Then we met with the Doctor who was very helpful and explained the treatments and things we needed to be watching for at home. We would strongly recommend this place. read more

This place is horrible, they don't have appts available other than the emergency room guaranteed to cost you much more than a office visit. I am now over a thousand dollars into my dog's care for the same issue and I have been trying to speak to someone about the issue since the last appt over two weeks ago, 5 calls, many guarantees I will get a call and still nothing. They don't let you in the emergency room to discuss things with the vet. I am so angry and tired of the run around, read more

My cat died today, and Sumner Vet turned her away while she was dying. I called in before I even got in the car and was told they had availability. Once I got there, they rushed her straight to the back, for the veterinarian decided that all of the sudden they were at capacity. I'm disgusted that you would send a dying cat away. In the time it took me to get from Sumner vet to another emergency vet she passed away. I'm absolutely shocked that you are even still in business if this is how you treat animals. If the person on the phone hadn't told me that there was availability I would've taken her straight somewhere else and she would probably be alive right now. read more

I brought my dog in at 6pm and was told 1-2 hr wait. After 2 hours I checked in and was told "not too much longer. There's only 1 more ahead of you". I checked back again at 3 hours and got an attitude saying "there's only one doctor overnight." At 10pm, 4 hours later, I was too tired from being up at 3:30am for work. Everyone who came after me had been called back before me so I got my money back and left. read more

When your dog has an allergic reaction to an insect bite/sting late in the evening on a camping trip, be thankful that places like Sumner Vet Hospital exist!!! The gal on the phone was extremely kind and professional, the staff has great empathy, and they worked my 15-month old lab in between surgeries and had us on our way within two hours - for a FRACTION of what I expected to pay (and have paid at other animal hospitals). Glad I didn't take the time to regard negative reviews; in my mind they are absolutely 5*!!! read more

Did you even read my review? How are you guys going to assist with me "with my dogs ongoing treatment" when she died a couple days after being turned away from your hospital for not having "life threatening symptoms". You guys clearly have copy paste replies, peoples pets are some of the most important thing to them in their lives and you can't even take the time to fully read a review and give a personal reply (I said my dog died in mine..) I will never go back to your vet, I will never recommend your vet, and I will urge anyone to avoid it. read more

The wait times are extremely long and ridiculous! I brought in my boyfriends cat to be seen and they made me wait hours upon hours on end, when you walk in they charge you a $190 deposit for the "doctors exam fee" and to even be seen. But waiting this long doesn't make it worth that. Not to mention the receptionists are extremely rude and had an attitude towards me and never gave me an estimated wait time. i work in a human hospital as you would call it and my patients get better care than this. extremely disappointing!!!! will never be coming here again. read more

We brought out cat in on a Thursday evening. We got in right away, the Dr. said our cat would need surgery costing $2800.00 to $3100.00 and they would keep him till Sunday. Little communication and 4 days later, we were told we could pick him up and our bill was $7500.00!!!! read more

Our much loved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was in terrible trouble when we rushed her to Summit Vet Hospital. We are most grateful for the care and concern for Pax, and recommend Sumner highly. read more

Took my beloved dog into to Sumner February 4th (Sunday) it was an emergency, my dog was/had what appeared to be a seizure, called the Sumner Vet they said to bring him in right away and they would assess the urgency! They took him back right away and I waited for 3.5 hours for the vet to call me back and tell me he was fine, I insisted that he wasn't fine and the vet suggested some bloodwork, I said great, waited 3 more hours to be told my dog had thyroid problems and a UTI given meds and sent home! My dog died Feb 6th! I definitely felt like the Vet did not do his job and was more concerned about money than the care of my pet! I would never take any animals there! The front office gals were all very nice and professional, the office manager was also very kind, but the Vet and his boss were horrible and dishonest, and for those reasons I leave them a terrible review! I would give zero stars if I could ! RIP Otis you were the best boy and I'm sorry I took you to the Sumner Veterinary Hospital! read more

The worst vet experience I have ever had. I've been bringing my dog here for most of his life due to epileptic seizures. But today I brought him in to have his anal glands expressed, when he was too squirmy they sent me home with Trazadone (which side effects include seizures, irregular heartbeat and sudden death). So on the way to vet, he had two separate seizures. When we arrive I am not happy, obviously. So I get on the line with one named Dr. Larson, who had to be the most rude veterinarian/dr I have ever spoke with. He said my dog was aggressive, and a liability for his staff which is a point blank a lie, especially after the lady told me the day prior he was not aggressive in any way. Of course i was being a tad aggressive on the phone, but who wouldn't, when it seemed Mr. Larson did not care about my animal or his needs whatsoever. On the other hand the ladies that helped me and my dog were amazing and very sympathetic. As for the Dr, I cannot say the same. Update: Was told my dog expressed his anal glands after having a seizure and that they were empty, but the next day he expressed them on the floor of our home. I will not be lied to any further by this vet and can tell you with complete confidence that they have lost a long term customer. I wouldn't recommend this veterinarian to anyone who truly cares about there animal. read more

Please cancel cat boarding 7/15-19. I will never cross your threshold again. I took my perky, happy*, but vomiting dog to you on 6/30, and God only knows what you injected him with, because I brought him home listless, with diarrhea that he didn't have before, and with no appetite (he's a LAB ..... no appetite? What did you do to him?)? I called 7/2 to get him in for a follow-up, and the answer was NO. What is wrong with you? I understand that you're crazy busy, but you refuse to see a dog who's worse after your $500+ "treatment"? what are you afraid of? I took him to a different vet after calling around for half a day, and now we're waiting for results of $1200 of testing. I can't say enough about Sumner Vet Hospital. Last night my daughter and I brought her dog in after waiting for hours at Summit. I called Sumner and spoke to Danny or Annie about my situation. She was very thorough explaining they're check in process and that they're wait times were high at the time. She did recommend coming prepared with a charger and snacks in case the wait was longer than expected. How thoughtful! Although the news we received wasn't as hoped for- the staff was absolutely wonderful. Danny even made sure we had cold water and a full box of tissues on hand while we were in the room. Such a compassionate hospital. Thank you for all you guys do!!! read more

I have had to utilize this vet clinic multiple times. My dog has cluster seizures that are not easily stopped. During the pandemic this place was doing its best to accommodate a high number of patients. Despite this, I've been happy with the services here. The only issues I had were related to payment when I had to use the overnight shelter and the wait time for emergency appointments which is out of their control. They're doing the best they can. Today they really earned bonus points! I arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment and mentioned to the front desk I'm a little worried about the timing of the rest of my day. They got me in right away and the vet was quick to get in the room. This was such a great quick experience today. Thank you Sumner Vet! read more

I do feel sorry for the staff here, having to explain to each person with an emergency that their pet didn't make the triage cut and send them home with no care. After getting hit by a car, we were turned away with our animal who was critically injured because the vital signs were "normal." The tech that brought our animal back out said it looked like "something is wrong with the leg" which was a gross understatement. We found an ER in Tacoma that would take her based on the severity of the injury and later that day, put down. I'm sorry we wasted precious time here waiting for vitals to be taken. I won't come here in the future. read more

I originally gave them 5 stars for their customer care and efficiency. But, it seems there is no communication or follow through for prescriptions. The the front desk told us that the prescription was taken care of, obviously a lie. After a week of issues with them verifying the prescription for our cats special food, the pet store has cancelled our order even after they called and emailed the veterinarians office, and they never got back to them. So now my cat is out of food. I will be showing up there tomorrow, and will not leave until I get a prescription. read more

We lost our father last Tuesday, a short illness after difficulty breathing and then he was gone. We had no way to take care of his dog, Dotty. Dot, an 11 year old dalmation, had bloody urine and trouble urinating. We suspected bladder stones, which is a serious problem. I called around, all the local vets were overbooked. Sumner Vet Hospital was recommended by a friend and I called. Kelsi answered the phone, was terrifically compassionate during the hardest time in our lives. She told us straight up that there could be a long wait to get Dotty medical attention because of the COVID pandemic but that they could help. I drove down with Dot, waited the three hours Kelsi said was about typical and right on time they called me in the parking lot and came and took Dot inside. I waited an additional hour, then began to feel ill myself. I called and they said 'No problem, we will call you when Dotty's evaluation is completed. I drove home at 11:30pm. The next morning I checked my phone and Dr.Van Maren had left a message. She said she had heard I wasn't feeling well and was apologetic, but that Dotty had a simple UTI and they would give her antibiotics. What a relief. I called to ask about boarding and another nice girl helped us make the arrangements with no trouble at all. I want the thank Kelsi, Dr. Van Maren and the rest of the staff for helping us in such a difficult time for us under unprecedented difficult times for the entire world. I had appt for my dog, they told me they didn't get any records and wanted to run all the test again, after having a month to get records. Very disappointed they cornered my dog in a small room with 4 women with masks on coming at my dog's face who was petrified, and when they see, she is scared to death still kept trying to mess with her then chastised me on me spoiling my dog, Crazy your supposed to be the professional why on earth would you corner the animal and get in its face being a sign of aggression. If I could give it a zero star, I would have. This is the worst place to bring in your fur babies. When you ask the front desk an eta, they can't give you one. This is the most horrible place I have ever been, never again!!! With only one Dr. and a bunch of staff people that can't do Sh*t. Two weeks ago, we were faced with having to hug our six-year-old fur baby goodbye; we thought we would have much longer with her. So to say that we were shocked and heartbroken is an understatement, it happened so fast we are still having a hard time processing that she is gone. Xena had an amazing but short life, she loved going to Sumner Veterinary Hospital for all services from wellness care, to grooming, lodging and daycare services. Xena had to spend her last three days of her life in the ER at Sumner Veterinary Hospital where she had to have extensive treatment from, blood transfusions, IV's, feeding tubes and around the clock care. I was able to visit as much as possible and I watched all the technicians day and night treat her as if she were their own pet. Dr. St.Cin and the other attending doctors were amazing with their communication, the diagnosis and what the best and realistic treatment options we had. In the end, Xena's poor body could not fight any longer and we had to say goodbye. We were kept up to date daily about where our finances were at compared to the estimate we were given. I saw firsthand how hard the teams were working not only to care for my pet but for other pets that were there too, for people to say they only care about money is not true. I am very thankful I have pet insurance so I did not have to make decisions based on money and it being a financial burden to care for my pet to the best of my ability. read more

** EDIT** It was 10 hours before I was called to see if I wanted to bring her in still. 4:00 am that was. When I got her to my vet at 7:00 am the same morning they called me, she did in fact have a fever and was experiencing a pretty serious infection. Yes I did sign a financial responsibility but they wouldn't even allow me to come in the door to be able to even sign this form without charging my card FIRST. AWFUL business practice if you ask me. Just there for the money $165...$165!!!! That's what I was charged to be told my cat didn't have a fever before they sent me on my way because they didn't want me to wait. "We'll call you when we can see her." The triage girl told me that only 3 people were in front of me and they'd do bloodwork. Oh I understand more critical cases are seen first. For the hour I sat there before they sent me home, not a single car pulled in. Unless your pet is about to breathe it's last breath or it's limb is handing DO NOT bring your pet here. Even if they are on their death beds they will tell you they're stable and send you on your way. WHAT A JOKE THIS PLACE IS!!! read more

We brought our dog for an emergency visit, he suddenly lost feeling in his rear leg. We got there at approximately 9:30 PM and waited 7 hours to be told he had a tumor and she had never seen this in a dog. She also said he had a heart murmur which was serious and we need to take him to a cardiologist right away or euthanize him. We found a cardiologist in Vancouver at Pacific Northwest er vet. After driving the 3 hours to get there we were told his heart was fine and he had a problem absorbing proteins and did a scope and biopsy to find out cause. He stayed for 3 nights, was put on a feeding tube. It's been a week since we brought him home and he is doing great and eating on his own now. We go back tomorrow for biopsy results to find out cause. He's been on meds and is walking on his leg again. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK TO SUMNER! We recently had to have our cat put down. They were very respectful and kind. We were pleased with their care.

***DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU LOVE YOUR FUR BABIES***Let me start off by saying that I don't want a response to this review from this Vet Hospital. There is nothing you can do or say to make the terrible and heartbreaking experience that I had any better. Responding would be putting salt on the wound. I brought my sweet dog Dozie here because she was throwing up and having diarrhea. We arrived right after midnight, and they took her in within about an hour after we waited in the parking lot (I'm not mad at that). However, during the time we waited for her to be seen Dozie threw up twice and it started to look like there was blood in it. I showed the vet tech person that came to get her the mess to verify if it was blood or not. The doctor called me about an hour later and asked if anything had changed with Dozie's diet. I told him that we changed her food about a month ago, but she's been fine with it. I also stated that I gave her ¼ of a hamburger a couple of days before and with that he automatically said that she had pancreatitis. He never offered to run any blood work or tests and after reading more about pancreatitis in dogs, the doctor should've ran blood work to verify it was truly pancreatitis during that first visit. He stated that he was going to give her a shot that would keep her from throwing up for 24hrs and, some medicine to help with diarrhea. I bring her home and put her in her room to go to sleep. I wake up from a stench coming all the way from her room. There was blood everywhere coming from her backside. I took her straight back to them at 7:45am. The tech came straight out to get her, and she said that Dozie did look space headed and not good. The doctor (a different one from the night before) called me and stated that bleeding in stool is common for pancreatitis and asked if I would like to have them to do blood work to verify that it was truly that, I said yes of course. The doctor said it would be about an hour to get the results and if I wanted to leave instead of wait in the parking lot I could. I wasn't going to leave and then my "feelings" got hungry. I went to pick up my breakfast and was headed back to the hospital, but I received a phone call from a vet tech saying that Dozie stopped breathing and asked if I wanted them to try to resuscitate her. I said yes, save my f'ing dog!! I get back to the hospital and the doctor calls me again and says she had a weak heartbeat but not where it should be and there wasn't very much more, they could do for her. I asked if I could go see her. They let me in. I waited in a waiting room and the doctor comes in with Dozie with her togue hanging out and gives me her. The doctor said that he had the shot to put her to sleep. I asked again, if there was anything else they could do for her, and he said no. I said my goodbyes and she was gone. The doctor took Dozie out of the room and then the tech came in to go over all the paperwork and billing. The tech kept calling Dozie by a different name and I corrected her. The tech actually started literally laughing and said, oh this whole time I thought her name was ...Whatever she was calling her. I couldn't believe she was being all lighthearted and giggly. The tech had no empathy skills at all. Fast forward to yesterday, I called to see if Dozie's ashes had arrived yet because I haven't heard anything from the Hospital, mind you she passed on 9/29/2021. The person who answered the phone asked if I have been contacted yet and I said, no that is why I was calling. She said, I see here that we did try to call you on the 10/3 to let you know that we had her ashes, but your voicemail was full. It is now 10/13 and they only tried to call one time. WOW!! AGAIN, STAY CLEAR OF THIS HEARTLESS PLACE!! ***FOLLOWED UP TO THEIR RESPONSE TO MY REVIEW & THEIR AUDACITY!!**^ Oh, if you are going to comment on my review, you better have your facts correct!! There was NEVER any discussion of ANY Outpatient treatment VS Diagnostic!! That is is BOLD FACE LIE!!! I WAS NOT given any choice other than medication the first time I was there. Then in the morning when I brought her back YOUR clinic wasted time calling me to ask me if I wanted CPR done on my baby instead of just starting it on your own. I did opt to euthanize my sweet dog because when I came in to see her, she was lifeless with her tongue hanging out AND THE DOCTOR SAID THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO!! So, of course I didn't want her pain!!! AGAIN YOU RESPONDING TO MY REVIEW JUST IS PUTTING SALT IN THE WOUND AND MAKING ME FEEL EVEN MORE SICK ABOUT THE BUSINESS THAT IS RAN THERE!! AGAIN, FUTURE CLIENTS READ ALL OF THIS TO FORM YOUR OWN OPIONION!! GOOD DAY!! read more

This is a zero compassion hospital with horrible customer service. Even if this is the closest place and it is an emergency, take your pet somewhere else. They have a credit card machine in the exam room because even if they make you wait forever and end up doing nothing for your pet - they still want you to pay before you even walk out the room. I feel sorry for those that can't pay their prices for their shoddy services - because if you look at the rest of the reviews, if you don't pay they don't give you back your pet. Love any recommendations you can suggest. After we recently returned from a week away for Thanksgiving and paying a $568 bill for lodging they managed to lose (or misplace) our leash and collar with all of his tags. They went back and looked but after a less than 3 minute search came back and said they don't have it...well this is unacceptable. Maybe this is why I am seeing a less than 3 rating on the place.
