No call or email to pick remains... actually screen calls. Take on patients walking in while telling patients on the phone full occupancy. I took my dog here after we found ourselves in a bit of a pinch for a night away. She lodged for one night and we were really grateful they had an opening last minute and could get her in. Our puppy is 15 weeks old and is taking some regular dewormers they would need to give her in our 30 hours away from her. We asked a lot of questions up front about whether they could accommodate our puppy given her age, vaccine status, and medications. They confirmed they could. Since our dog is still a growing puppy she is eating three meals a day. When we dropped her off they asked us if we would like a tour of the facility and we said yes. I really wish I hadn't because it became apparent the staff were overrun with dogs and I worried our dog would get the proper or even decent care. We left a bag of her things as they asked and then we were off. When we came to pick her up, we soon realized that she was covered in her own feces and there were no signs of attempts to clean her up. Given that she is currently being dewormed and the staff was aware of this when we asked, I was worried. We picked her up around 4pm and we were also informed that she had not had lunch or her lunch time medication. We were also given back a small back with our belongings, but they did not give back our other bag until we asked. Not the biggest deal, but certainly not 5 or even 3 star service. We also asked for some wipes to wipe off her poop and were first offered Clorox bleach wipes to wipe down our dog. I cannot imagine this is the first time that a dog has had an accident on themselves at a large pet daycare, hospital, and lodging center so this was surprising. I know that it is hard to care for a puppy and that they have a lot of needs. I certainly was not expecting perfection by any means. This is also part of the reason why we asked so many questions in advance. My overall belief is that there are too many dogs, and too few employees who are paid too little to be doing this job. I will not be taking my dog here again even once she is grown up and a little easier to care for. Since coming home, she has been lethargic and has lost her appetite completely--she has not eaten one full meal. I am hoping she is just mad at us for leaving her for a day at this place but I will be following up with my vet tomorrow and will update if there are more problems. We paid over $100 for less than 36 hours of care for our dog and for that price tag I would expect a lot more in terms of care and customer service. read more

this awful place refused to euthanize my old dog that is dying, she hasn't eaten in five days when I brought her in and I was told I need to "prove it" before they would euthanize, so my dog is starving to death instead of being put out of her misery. This was an a 12 hour visit for me, wrote this to my vet next day: Bear passed away this morning while Mike and I were there waiting, and I am really struggling with the care he got. I took him in because he was moaning and bleeding a lot from his behind and I am not talking bloody poop, I am talking pure blood, I tried so hard to get them to understand he had already lost a lot of blood at home and on the way there and while we were waiting and was dehydrated because of the vomiting and diarrhea, that was why we were there. I know for a fact two other animals that got there after us were not in nearly as bad a shape as he was, Bear was in his buggy bleeding and moaning and they were standing in the waiting room, wagging there tails looking normal and they left alive and well. I asked that they at least give him fluids to help him feel better, I took his pee pad out and showed it to the receptionist and it had 4 good sized blood spots on it, that were just since the 8 minute walk to get there and the 30 minutes we were waiting. They finally came and took him back after almost an hour. After 3 hours of nothing, no word from anyone and me assuming they were at least giving him fluids, I asked to get a room and said I wanted to see him. 30 minutes later they finally got me in a room and almost 30 minutes later Dr Wolf came in. He hadn't even seen Bear yet, NOTHING had been done for him, no fluids no nothing, he just sat in a cage getting worse. So for almost 4 hours he just languished in a cage, scared, feeling like crap, wondering where I was and what was going on and got worse and worse. Dr Wolf knew I was upset and said he would get fluids going then, I told him I wanted to see Bear, about an hour later they brought him in the room, his temp was low, 96.5, they had him wrapped in a blanket with two warmed up fluids bottles trying to get it up. He was in bad shape, he didn't respond to me, he was weak, lethargic, I was terrified, I knew things were bad if not hopeless of course you always want to hope. I could tell he was trying to poop and all of a sudden a huge gush of blood splattered out, all over me, the floor, I wish I had taken a picture, it was the size in diameter of the pee pad they brought in to clean it, that really scared me, so they took him back for more fluids and ... Dr Wolf and I talked and decided to run blood work, he did and then said he had to run it again because it couldn't be what he was seeing so they did it again, I want a copy of that, he said he didn't know how to send me a copy of it without cutting the page off ... his glucose was low and his platelets were low and a few other things were not good. We tested for addisons and parvo, both negative. As I said I wanted to hope even though deep down I think I knew it was very bad ... He did an xray, ultrasound and they both looked fine, nothing jumping out so we decided on a course of treatment and Dr Wolf still had no definitive reason for the very bad blood work, auto immune was mentioned, sepsis, cancer, we agreed to leave him for treatment, but I told them I wanted to see him before we left. So the girl came in and got our deposit for the high end estimate, and said she would go let them know we wanted to see him and find out if we were going back to see him or they were bringing him to us. She came back and said they would bring him to us, I asked how he was doing she said he was doing fine, resting, that they would get him ready and bring him to us. We waited for 20 to 30 minutes and I opened the door and asked how much longer the girl checked and said not too long he was getting fluids, so we waited 10 more minutes, nothing, now I am freaking out, then Dr Wolf comes in and say's they are doing CPR on him, we were both in shock, Mike said "what" I asked Dr Wolf what happened he said he just crashed when he was getting him ready to bring him to us. They worked on him for a while but he was gone ... I have to tell you I am deeply disappointed in the care he got. And I will always blame myself for not being more assertive and making sure he got the care I knew he needed sooner rather than later. I knew he was in dire shape but no one there apparently did because they wouldn't just listen to me and take me seriously and just take a look at him. They put him in a cage and forgot about him for 4 hours. I am not saying he would be alive if he had even just gotten fluids when they took him back, but it may have made a difference. Had I known he was getting no care I would have taken him elsewhere. Please talk with your Dr's and attendants, because even Dr Wolf admitted after Bear was gone that he was worse than he suspected and I, his mom knew him better and knew how bad of shape he was in, his loss will haunt me forever. This whole ordeal was very traumatic for Mike and I and I will always feel like I let Bear down & it cost Bear his life. This cost me over $2000.00, had he gotten good care, it wouldn't of mattered, but he didn't. read more

Went in for a wellness exam for my dog and was happy with Dr. Cooper's evaluation. As a first time dog owner, she was able to assist and answer all my questions i had. Whether it was concerns i had when adopting my dog or concerns that my dog started developing, Cooper was able to reassure me. Exam only took about 15 minutes and her checkup was free due to the adoption center's offer, so im unsure of the price. Also went in for a yearly wellness exam for my hedgehog and was also happy with Dr. K's evaluation. I cannot express how many times we had to change vets because they did not know how to check for a hedgehog's health. They would mess with my baby, thinking them huffing is just funny when its really him stressed. It only took about 30 minutes and his checkup was $80. Curbside pickup is still a thing. You are not able to get in at all. Just park in one of their designated spots, give them a call, let them know youre here for an appointment, and they will come out and get your pet. Once theyre done, the vet will give you a call, give you a summary breakdown, and they will hand you your pet back. Overall, I will continue to visit for my dog and hedgehog. Both doctors are very knowledgable and know what theyre doing. I recommend each if you want to come down and have them checked on. I can trust them as a first time visit. read more

Our dog had eaten a sock and I've heard some terrible stories so we took her straight to the emergency room. Little did we know it was going to take 2 hours before she even gets seen. They kept telling us that they are taking patients in depending on how critical they are - which okay then I would understand but there was a poor dog in the waiting room who was def in much worse condition than our dog. That dog couldn't even stand up on its own, had no energy but they still wouldn't take that dog in until they saw other patients. Our dog is fine and they induced vomiting so she threw up the sock. Bring something to do because I waited for my sick cat to be seen for 8 HOURS. I checked in at 6pm and saw the doctor for about 3 minutes at 2am. During these 8 hours neither receptionist ever offered any sort of update. I asked once every hour or two about the wait, and they both acted annoyed I was talking to them. At midnight, both receptionists packed up and left without saying anything. I was very frustrated, because they say they triage by "severity", but a dog with stable vitals, and a small non-bleeding laceration was taken straight back while my poor cat who didn't feel good at all had to sit in his small cat carrier for 8 hours. On top of all this it was SO EXPENSIVE. Easily three times I would pay at my normal vet. I guess that's what you get when you use emergency care? A little compassion and communication from the receptionist's would have gone a long way read more

Completely apathetic. We were told at check in it would be 2-3 hours . After this time we went in to check how much longer and were told it would be several more hours. Never once did they check on us or advise us it would be longer than initially told. There were 5 front desk clerks that could have given us an update at any point during the time we waited in our car. Trust was completely ruined at that point. Compassionate and professional. The high volume of pets needing to be seen is only increasing and by knowing that I know they are giving their best. They communicate even if it's not ideal having to wait, that's a good thing. It means your pet isn't in fight mode to live. They truly are doing what others can't. I don't understand why this vet hospital doesn't have better reviews. It was the only ER within 50+ miles that would take my friend's dog on a late Saturday afternoon after we'd been turned away from several ER's. I don't think we, the public, understands what a difficult job it is to answer the phones, hear heart breaking stories, only to have to tell people they are not able to take another pet into their under-staffed, over capacity hospital. I want to give a shout out to "Jen", the gal at the front desk who was absolutely lovely. She was compassionate, helpful and even let me borrow her phone charger. Granted, we've been here for over 5 hours and the pup hasn't been seen yet, but I appreciate they prioritize the most critical patients. read more

THEY HURT HIM! I have been taking my dog to the groomer here since his birth a year ago. A month ago they cut him and hurt him. He ended with a razor cut on his anus, tummy, and scrotum. He had to wear a cone and have medication for over a week. Now he is afraid to go in the car because he thinks he is going back to the vet to be hurt. He is a very loving puppy and is traumatized. They horrible think is the groomer ( his regular, once a month) didn't bother to tell me. I figured it out at 100am in the morning. Took him to the same vet and was given a bill for the treatment. My brother recently lost his dog "BRUCE" After having him since he was 7 weeks old , which is 14 years. Bruce died suddenly and quickly he was sick only 2 days . Times are tough and he didn't have much money and I was calling around trying to find a place that would cremate him , they all wanted 500.00 or more to do that . I called Sumner vet hospital and they told us they would do it for 142.00. we were a little concerned about taking him there as we wondered why it was so much cheaper there. At midnite we took him in now mind you Bruce weighed 120 pounds they took us in a room and let us say our goodbyes and were genuinely kind and understood our pain They even hugged me brother and assured him that Bruce's ashes would be spread out in an orchard in a month because my brother asked them to please not throw him in a dumpster. A week later my brother got a call, they had taken a beautiful paw print of Bruce and it was in clay and gave it to my brother. Now if he had wanted to keep the ashes it would have been 200 dollars more which still is a good price but we just didn't have the money at that time. So my brothers got a paw print of Bruce and we are so very very grateful for the women who were working that night for THIER compassion and kindness. I will tell all my friends and family who have pets of their graciousness so they too can experience their compassion. I have a five year old Yorkie and whenever it's her time , may it be today or 15 years from now she will definitely be going there. I can barely write this review without tearing up, but here goes... We were visiting nearby Puyallup after 2+ weeks on the road, driving down from Anchorage, AK to pick up an airstream. While staying our first night in an AirBNB, my 17 year-old, 4 pound chihuahua fell out of the bed at 2 am and wouldn't/couldn't move her legs or back. I was panicked, called around to 4-5 different 24-hour animal hospitals, all of which were at capacity. Finally, I reached Sumner who said we could bring her in for triage, after which we'd likely have to wait until the doctor arrived around 7 am. I scooped her up and drove like a mad woman in the middle of the night to their very nice, brightly lit parking lot. Thankfully, before I'd hung up, they'd given me excellent instructions on what to do when I arrived - call first, they'd get some information and then send someone out. I called, and despite my absolutely panic, the technician was kind and calm, helped me calm down, and got all my information quickly and efficiently (at this point it's 3 am - poor guy, I can't imagine how awful I sounded). The technician came outside, listened to me again, collected my little old lady and took her inside. In no the at all (maybe 10 minutes), he returned with good news: Her vitals were all within range, she was standing and walking, it's likely she was just stunned and then scared (did I mention she's also blind??). He made her an appointment for in the morning, said to be back before 8 am, and that to check on her at 6 am and let them know how she was doing. At 6:15 am I got a text checking on her status, when I let them know she was walking (gingerly, yes), they said we could cancel the appointment and monitor her for the next few days, or keep the appointment. We opted to cancel and she has recovered just fine, but I loved that they were willing to do whatever I was most comfortable with - and when I tried to give them a credit card, they said there was no charge for the triage overnight. If I lived here, this is where I would be taking my spoiled rotten pups. read more

I have come here a quite a bit for my dog, Annie, and they have also treated her so well. I have used their emergency/urgent care a few times and they are so responsive and have taken care of Annie. There was an incident where Annie was super sick, and they were honest that there was a chance that she might not be able to make it. Their staff was awesome in terms of handling the emotional state I was in and I felt their genuine comfort when talking to my family and I. Annie stayed at the hospital for two nights, three days, and I was welcomed in visiting her and they were promote in getting her out for us. They were also able to stay and tell us about her progress, and I did not feel rushed at all when seeing her. She made a full recovery by the way :) They have different doctors and I feel like each doctor is well updated about Annie's notes and health. I had to take Annie in again cause of her hips and left knee. I used their urgent care and it was going to be a 2 hour or 2 hour and 30 minutes wait. I debated and did sit down to wait. However, one of the nurses came up to me that one of their 4:00pm appointment was cancelled and offered to put me in there instead. She was super awesome and helpful in doing that. read more

They saved my mother's dog from dying of a quickly curable problem after we tried three other vets in 3 years time. We get to have the same doctor (Doctor K rocks!) each time we schedule an appointment. Dr. K listens and carefully answers all our questions even though they might not be the easiest to answer. The hours of operation are very convenient. I am willing to drive 45 minutes out of our way for the quality of care. The grooming services are beyond great!! We have 3 dogs requiring monthly cuts. They understand how to make two of them look like a dog (breed poodle/mutt) and mom's shih Tzu look the best he has ever looked even though he lost hair and has a cleft palate. I HIGHLY recommend Robert and Amanda!!! Compared to other vets, Sumner Vetrinary hospital stands at the very top of our list compared to all of the ones we have tried in Kent and Auburn. read more

Every time I have visited, their doctors and staff have been absolutely amazing! From the receptionists to the doctors, from the minute you walk in until you leave, they are kind, compassionate, caring and knowledgeable. Dr. Nick Larson is a fantastic veterinarian, he explains things thoroughly, and you can tell that he genuinely cares about his patients and his staff. He actually takes the time to talk with you instead of rushing to the next room. I've never had a long wait, emergencies are met with the appropriate urgency. The facility is clean and well kept. My cat died today, and Sumner Vet turned her away while she was dying. I called in before I even got in the car and was told they had availability. Once I got there, they rushed her straight to the back, for the veterinarian decided that all of the sudden they were at capacity. I'm disgusted that you would send a dying cat away. In the time it took me to get from Sumner vet to another emergency vet she passed away. I'm absolutely shocked that you are even still in business if this is how you treat animals. I had a relatively glowing review before. I did not think it was perfect, but overall I recognized they were doing a very tough job with highly emotional people in a highly emotional situation. I will try to keep my story brief and while I still appreciate the help and support we received with our poor dying cat. I do think there are some challenges with this hospital. A couple months back we knew our old dog was getting close to the end. We had a decent experience here last time and thought of them first. She was unfortunately between vets so we could not call on our new vet or our old vet. I called earlier in the week to see if we needed to or could schedule a time to put our old girl down. Its not a fun decision to make and that compounds on the situation. They stated as they have previously you dont need an appointment. On the day we decided to put her down. We hung out with her all day, played with her, gave her a good final day. We teary eyed drove the 30ish minutes to the hospital. Took a couple deep breaths walked in to get this done to be told no doctors are available. I sat there for a second staring at the receptionist and I mentioned how long would they be busy. She said she didnt know. I mentioned the phone call I had a couple days before and she apologized. This was a real kick in the gut. We had said goodbye we were getting ready to do one of the hardest things as dog owner and we were gutted and confused. They recommended another vet and apologized. We called our new vet and while she could not be seen there as she had not been established they recommended another location. Luckily they were able to assist. It was crushing and the doctor was so kind. But it was an emotionally draining day. I do not begrudge this facility or the people. It was an tough day and like all medical fields I assume they are severely understaffed. I am not mad at them, just disappointed that this day went the way it went. It was tough, but I will move on. Lied to me on cremation of our dog. We paid for private not group. Get notified ashes is ready. Called and it was group and refused to refund or apologize. How devastating this has gotten to us. It's our dog that passed and we specifically wanted private individual cremation. They took our money and lied to us. Disrespected our broken hearts and ruined our chances of getting dog ashes. I'd like to start off with that we took our dog here from recommendations from a vet who said this was the only place out of 2 that offered the type of surgery our dog needed & some research a few years ago the reviews were not as bad, I did take my time waiting to write a review seeing how it's been a over a year. I would say believe these negative reviews this establishment is awful. If you absolutely have to go here I will say Dr.sugerman is outstanding & the only one to seem to be capable of doing their job to a certain standard. Dr. KHACHATRYAN & Larson are hack jobs & completely butchered our dog. The initial visit was okay the meeting before her actual surgery DR.k seemed busy with a lot going on but he seems to have lacked any concern for my dog like "it's just another dog" no concern what's so ever. He came out after 30 min before surgery to tell me what the game plan was spelled our name wrong, which also added to the fact the whole time everyone there kept pronouncing our dogs name wrong too. He left her food out in the waiting room said someone would come get it I waited until someone came to get it. No one ever did after 20 min I took it to the front desk to put it somewhere besides on a chair in the waiting room. We pick her up to see they used staples! In a spot where it bends & the skin stretches I do not understand why he would use staples. That started our back & forth visits to this establishment. One time she was bleeding in the waiting room & we still didn't see anyone. She came back & Dr. Larson stapled her some more which in turn made it even worse she ended up getting an infection. It wasn't until after our fourth time returning & getting into it with a horrible worker in the back who came out acting self righteous laughing in our faces for voicing our concerns while mocking us & purposely saying our dogs name wrong. Then an angel came out dr.sugermans assistant came to talk to talk to us after us being there all day & our dog bleeding out & not taken back because our dogs case wasn't "as serious as others". She told us to just wait till sugerman was working & I'm glad we did he cleaned our dog up & stitched her up NOT staples & it official began her recovery. I would absolutely never ever recommend this establishment but if you have to only see sugerman but 5k later the lack of care from this establishment & employees is concerning which just because they're animals doesn't mean they don't deserve decent treatment. read more

They saved my cat! We were going to a different vet place for our cat who was having issues using his litter box. It got to the point where he wasn't eating or drinking anything and stayed in the same spot and hardly move. Originally the other vet place got us some medication and special food to try to help but it wasn't helping. The last visit we had there they did tests and said the numbers were actually looking better. After a day more of waiting and realizing he wasn't getting better we took him to Sumner Vet. They triaged him and realized right away he was completely blocked (which the other vet place said he wasn't) and had we waited much longer he likely would have died. They got him in and removed the blockage. While he was there we got a call twice a day (morning and evening) to get updates. It was even a surprise that we got him home a day earlier than expected since he bounced right back, and we got a partial refund from what we paid since he was out of there earlier than expected. The staff did an amazing job and I'm really glad we came here to have them help our cat. From my experience I would highly recommend them. Understanding they have to triage based on severity, I can say that in our case it was life threatening to our pet and they got right on it which is all you can ask for in the situation. Can't say enough about the amazing staff at Sumner Veterinary Hospital starting with the front desk. We came in with our friend's dog who had ingested a whole chocolate cake. Because time was of essence they rushed the dog into the back to start treatments. Then we met with the Doctor who was very helpful and explained the treatments and things we needed to be watching for at home. We would strongly recommend this place. read more

This place is horrible, they don't have appts available other than the emergency room guaranteed to cost you much more than a office visit. I am now over a thousand dollars into my dog's care for the same issue and I have been trying to speak to someone about the issue since the last appt over two weeks ago, 5 calls, many guarantees I will get a call and still nothing. Waited 5 hours in my car to receive treatment for my dog because of their policy. You need to wait in your car or you will lose your place in line. I had no other choice but to sit with my dog while he was in pain and had no resources to care for him myself otherwise he would not be treated at all. I spoke to the vet and she said it was a bite of some kind and they drew a sharpie around the swollen area to monitor if it got worse and gave him a sedative and anti-inflammatory. I arrived at 2, he was taken at 6:30, and I didn't get him back until 10:30 to 11. The bill ended up being 450 dollars. They prescribed him an anti-inflammatory drug, 30 pain pills, and an antibiotic, and an appetite stimulant. Not sure why 30 pain pills was necessary. The vet had no idea what bit him and didn't even tell me any possibilities. She did not describe beyond what she did to treat him any further care that I should give him other than the things prescribed. Didn't tell me what to watch out for, didn't tell me what it possibly could be. I didn't even get to speak to the vet in person. She sent an orderly out to give me my dog back and he had no idea how long the pills should last me or why I was given 30. There was absolutely no information given to me that would have been helpful. Seems like a really sloppy place with terrible policy and overprescribes. The one thing that saved this place from a one star was one of the vet students that immediately tended to my dog having seen me carrying him running to the front door. I brought my dog in at 6pm and was told 1-2 hr wait. After 2 hours I checked in and was told "not too much longer. There's only 1 more ahead of you". I checked back again at 3 hours and got an attitude saying "there's only one doctor overnight." At 10pm, 4 hours later, I was too tired from being up at 3:30am for work. The wait times are extremely long and ridiculous! I brought in my boyfriends cat to be seen and they made me wait hours upon hours on end, when you walk in they charge you a $190 deposit for the "doctors exam fee" and to even be seen. But waiting this long doesn't make it worth that. Not to mention the receptionists are extremely rude and had an attitude towards me and never gave me an estimated wait time. i work in a human hospital as you would call it and my patients get better care than this. extremely disappointing!!!! will never be coming here again. read more

We brought out cat in on a Thursday evening. We got in right away, the Dr. said our cat would need surgery costing $2800.00 to $3100.00 and they would keep him till Sunday. Little communication and 4 days later, we were told we could pick him up and our bill was $7500.00!!!! read more

My dog was not feeling well and was panting heavily, couldn't walk and was shaking. This clearly was an emergency to me. I call them first from home to make sure if I could bring her in and Daja said yes I could. So I get my dog ready and head over to Sumner vet. Get their and get her checked in at 10:04 AM. I wait for an hour and a half and call the front desk and speak with the front desk, Daja, in particular. I asked her what the wait limit was and she says 10 to 12 hours. I'm like excuse me, so you want me to sit in my car till midnight and she said that's what the wait time was. She said more urgent pets are being seen first and I said what is my dog then? She can't walk, she's panting and is shaking. That went no where, other than the ridiculous 10-12 hour time frame she was stating like a broken record, and I'm already waiting for an hour and a half at their lot, in spot 22. Why she did not tell me this over the phone when I called before I left is mind boggling. I'm frantically calling other vets from their lot and had to get her seen ASAP as I could see my dog was clearly not well and wasn't getting any better. Finally find one in Federal Way and they took her in immediately since it was urgent. My dog had a 104 fever and this pathetic place made her wait for an hour and a half!! Totally inexcusable. Absolutely a waste of my time and careless act on their part. If Daja would have told me at 10:04 am that there was a 10/12 hour wait. I would have taken my dog clearly elsewhere. But to make my dog wait and suffer for an hour and a half is completely unacceptable. Never talking my pets here again. If you see their responses to reviews similar to mine, they are making excuses and not apologizing. Who needs an apology when your pet is clearly suffering??? Do your job and be ethical about it. 07/26/21 This is an update to their response below. Sumner Vet, again, you are making excuses. And this is the the problem with your veterinary clinic. You don't take responsibility for your own actions. Before I came out there, I called and spoke with your staff at 9:30 AM. Deja could have told me right then and there that there was a 10 hour wait but she didn't. When I got there at 10:04, she told me to wait and I did. After an hour and a half of my poor dog suffering with 104° temperature, did she then tell me that there is a 10 to 12 hour wait. This is completely irresponsible on your part. Regarding my situation, you have failed. I will never bring any four of my pets to your veterinary clinic again. I have two other friends that had an emergency this weekend with their dog and I told them not to take their pet to your clinic and they listened. What you need to be doing is when a pet owner brings their pet to your facility, you should immediately send a tech out there to take the dogs vital signs. We are pet owners, if we knew veterinary medicine we would not be bringing our pets to you. Only after their vital signs are taken, a determination needs to be made on what is an emergency and what is not. So quit making excuses and take responsibility for your own actions once in a while. read more
