We unfortunately have had to re-home 2 animals and was worried that the office would not continue to seeing our other animals but they did! Just a year ago, Murphy was 15.5 lbs, he had a collapsing trachea from being overweight, he had breathing problems and coughed and huffed constantly, and his kidneys were starting to fail. Today, he's 12.1 lbs, has barely any breathing problems, (he's part pug so that's saying a lot) and his kidneys are fine with no meds. This is all because of Farris Veterinary Clinic. We are so lucky to have found Dr. Farris and his staff. Our poor golden Retriever was hit by a truck and required a very complicated surgery to repair her leg. I appreciated his up front honesty with us regarding the repair and he even went out of his way to get another opinion for us and all of this was without charge. After finding out repair needed for her leg was a far stretch we decided to go with amputation and I wouldn't have taken our dog anywhere else. His kind bedside manner with us and our pup will never be forgotten. His office staff is kind and patient and they all even stayed after hours to take care of my dog. If you are looking for an honest vet who truly loves animals and is in the business for the right reasons this is the place to go! Dr Farris is a no nonsense it's all about the pet Dr. If you need a boutique clinic it's all about you the owner I would continue on down the road. He is very well versed in all things animal and I think feels way more for the patient then the owner. His prices are comfortable, his front office staff are over the top, I have never been disappointed. I don't know why this says San Francisco as our home. We live in Tacoma. Dr. Farris has helped me in 3 separate emergency situations, once when all other emergency vets were "at capacity." He is also our regular vet for our cat and two dogs. He is very skilled at what he does and has a way of making all my pets feel comfortable. His prices are fair, probably the best in this area. I was having an emergency with one of my animals and when I got them in the car and started heading over I called and asked if they would be able to see her the woman on the phone was very rude and immediately told me no they had over a half hour till they closed and it would have taken me about that to get there yet she said they had 3 patients waiting and wouldn't take any more it took me another 15 min of searching and a 20 min drive to get to another vet that was open and my animal died because of it so if you have any kind of emergency stay far far away from here cause they don't care in the slightest read more

Can't say anything for this place except that the receptionist did not know their own hours or how to read a calendar. I called Thursday and made an appointment for Saturday at 9:00AM. We showed up and the place is closed! Sign on the door says they are only open on the 2nd and 4th Saturday's. And today was not one of those days. Best vet I had ever seen, he knows what he's doing and doesn't try tricking you into unnecessary procedures to get more money out of you like other vet clinics! We brought our dog in with an emergency eye problem, they were able to squeeze us in and he took care of the problem right away and made sure we call him over the weekend with updates because he wanted to make sure it all went well!! I was skeptical about finding a new vet. This is a house that's been turned into a vet, the grounds are kept up well, very pretty. Quaint cute little office. In and out with a rabies shot super fast. Pricing not bad. 62 for the exam and vaccine, I'm happy with that! He also quoted me 150 to remove the skin tag in her eye. Other vets have told me more like 6-700 so I don't think dr. Farris is trying to rip me off by any means. read more

We have been taking our dogs to Dr. Farris and his staff since 1996, and I must say that I have always been pleased with the care that he has given our three dogs. He is very knowledgeable, and good at explaining things, yet straight to the point. He has been a good provider and care-giver during various pet ailments: bladder cancer, doggie dementia, a beagle with a bad back, an owie tail from falling out of a tree, skin problems and of course, teeth-cleaning. Dr. Farris is a skilled practitioner, yet cost-aware. In our latest excursion into pet health problems, he diagnosed our elderly dog with cancer. After doing research online, I asked him a particular cancer treatment. He knew all about the medication, but was up-front enough to tell me that it was expensive, and would require frequent, costly blood work. During the two instances in which we had to put our canine family members "to sleep," staff was very compassionate. I would recommend Dr. Farris and staff to anyone. read more

Dr Farris and his whole clinic is just above and beyond! They are so sweet, it's so comfortable and our little guy just loves going in. We have a Boston Terrier who likes to eat pretty much anything he can grab - when he got into the bathroom garbage, Dr Farris got us right in and took a thorough look and reassured us he was okay (thank goodness!) To our pleasant surprise, he called us the next day - Thanksgiving Day! - to check on our fur baby. I love the entire Farris family team! They are patient, kind and make you feel welcomed and relaxed. Dr. Farris took such loving care of my 19-year-old kitty, especially in her final weeks of life. I have a loud German Shepherd and the staff was really patient about it. I usually see another vet but they insisted she has a bacterial infection even after 2 weeks of antibiotics treatment with no results and they wanted to continue giving her antibiotics. I didn't believe it was that so I went to get a second opinion. Dr. Farris was really nice and made friends with my doggie which is not easy. He said she is allergic and I gave her Benadryl and she stopped licking. I also paid much much less money. read more

Dr. Farris has been our family vet for over 20 years. He's always been kind and made suggestions for the benefit of the pet and not his bottom line. And to address another review that rated him poorly for closing for a couple hours for "lunch" i am sorry you were dealing with a loved pet near the end and having to put a family pet down is always a terrible and stressful time, the reality is that dr Farris does calls to farms etc during those "lunch" hours. So he may not be available and if you need something more immediate during those times taking your pet elsewhere may be the best suggestion. Hope that helps. Great Vet. We love taking our two dogs to this vet clinic. We love being able to get in and out quickly. Dr Farris is also very fair and is honest with us. He didn't push xrays on our dog when she was sick and wanted us to wait and see how she was doing over the next 24 hours. She still wasn't eating so we did come back and did take xrays and found nothing. Eventually whatever she had eaten had passed out of her body. But other vet clinics would've pushed all the expensive tests and expensive xrays right off the bat. The staff is also very nice and very easy to work with! read more

He even left meds on the door step for me when I couldn't make it there during the office hours. He is resonably priced, experienced and fast. We have been clients of Farris vet clinic for the last 10 years. We have two cats and had two dogs. Our oldest dog who was 14 had been having issues lately. My husband called the office telling them he wasn't doing good and possibly would need to be put down but he couldn't get there by the 12:00pm lunch close time possibly. He was told he probably should take our dog elsewhere! We were floored that they would be so heartless to tell him this when we were longstanding customers. We obviously we never take the rest of our animals back not will we recommend them. While we understand hours of operation to close for several hours for lunch is a joke and then to tell a customer to take their dying pet elsewhere because they might be a couple minutes past their lunchtime close is ridiculous. read more

I used to work at an emergency vet clinic and have taken my pets to multiple places since working at that clinic and this is by far the best one I've been to!! The dr. is genuinely concerned about what is best for the animals rather than making loads of money on his customers. He gets your animals in and out quickly and doesn't charge you an arm and a leg for an exam. He gives you options for medications (cost vs. variations of meds) and doesn't over medicate your animals. He's honestly the best vet I've ever worked with. Really recommend anyone that lives anywhere close to give him a try. If I ever move again I will make the drive no matter how far!! read more

We have used Dvm. Ferris with our dogs on occasion. I found him to be a knowledgable and very qualified Vetranarian. However, last month my daughter had to put her 3 year old dog down. She rescued the dog as a puppy from people that were abusing him. Unfortunately he had become aggressive and had bitten two people. My daughter was moving away for college and had attempted to find a place that could take him and rehabilitate him. No place was found. I told her that Dvm Ferris was a good vet so she and her fiancé made arrangements to have him put down. Dvm Ferris was aware that the dog had bitten people before they arrived. When they got there he took the dog into the back room, made a comment about them staying for the injection. He then said to the dog "so you don't like people". He drew up the sodium pentathol injected it in his leg and walked out of the room. The dog struggled to breath for nearly two minutes before dying. He gave no sedation and it sounds like he injected muscle instead of a vein. When he returned he appeared surprised my daughter was still there. He commented that the dog was dead before he left the room. Not once did he give any explanation of what he was doing or how the dog would react. Not once did he say a single word of compassion. The one assistant did give them some Kleenex. I have spent nearly 40 years in health care and we ALL are compassionate. My uncle was a vet in Olympia for over 40 years and was a past president for Washington State Veterinarians. I have never seen or heard of a Dvm.that would be so indifferent and show no compassion to a pet owner during this difficult time. Again I find Dvm. Ferris to be a very quaified knowledgable vetranarian BUT has no compassion and would NEVER take a pet to him again. read more
