Dr. Berryman and his staff are not following protocols set by OHSA (Occupational Health and Safety Administration). Failure to wear gloves during the insertion of the IV and the removal of the IV, is a direct violation. I was with my husband and seen this happen two times. The nurse will enter the room and touch everything to take the bloodpressure, using the pen to write, and the tray table that is used for the insertion of the IV, then without washing her hands or wearing gloves, she will open all of the sterile supplies and place an IV. The last time, I questioned the nurse and the doctor about not wearing gloves, and was told that this is the way he does things. The room where my husband was carried for the back injections, no staff or doctor wore a medical mask. This is another violation. None of the staff in the room was wearing gloves. Then the x-ray tech who was in the room the whole time touching various things, took out my husband's IV without washing his hands or putting on gloves. These standards are set by OSHA to keep the patient, doctor and staff safe from any infections, primarily the IV site and potential bloodstream. These infections include Staph (staphylococcal infections), which is a serious bloodstream infection. The use of face masks are crucial during back injections to minimize the risk of infection for both the patient, doctor, and staff.

I've been seeing them for a little over a year for my back and we have worked on everything from medication management to epidurals. I've NEVER had a pleasant experience with her....ever. And I have been a patient with this practice for 15 years! Because I don't have health insurance and due to circumstances at home, (I live with a partner that is abusive and have been working on an exit plan for several years), we made an agreement when Nexus took over for Dr. Patel, that I will do a drug screen every three months because of the exorbitant cost and because my abuser/former partner was paying the bill and I had to endure his anger every time I come in. On February 26th, of 2026, overnight, I had to flee my home and my abuser, and enter a Domestic Violence shelter in North Georgia. I literally left with the clothes on my back! I am also a self pay patient because I am unemployed because of my abuser. My last appointment was February 22nd and I took a drug screen and paid $325.00. Today is Thursday, April 23rd and I came in for my next appointment and before I even started to check in, I was asked for payment of $325.00. The shelter had provided me with a letter to prove I am a resident, enough gas to drive the 2.5 hours to get here, and provided me with the normal monthly payment of $150.00. I also had to get up at 4:30 am and leave by 5:30 am, to make the long drive down and be here by 8:00 am. Upon check-in, I quietly explained my situation because I was told I would be paying another $325.00 for this visit. (Completely against the agreement we have had for the last several years...again!), I asked if I could speak to the billing manager to explain my circumstances and show them the paperwork that the shelter provided. For the record, I have NEVER FAILED a drug screen. In 15 (fifteen) years, I have NEVER failed one! I also bring my medication in voluntarily, to be counted when I come in. They have never asked me to, but they make me feel so incredibly uncomfortable about it, I automatically bring it in, because I am fearful of being accused of something nefarious and want to be as open and honest as I possibly can. As a matter of fact, I am only given a 1 month supply and I break them in half some days to try and stretch them as far as they will go, in order to save money. So technically, I don't even take as much as prescribed. I am 100% in compliance! The last time I was here, I finally spoke to the NP about it and she told me not to worry, that she knew I was being extremely cautious and that I was doing everything right. She said she would speak to the front office staff about it and she would let them know that I was completely in compliance! I start a new job next week, and I will be working in a factory, which will be extremely stressful on my body. I will also be on a 90 day probationary period where I cannot miss a day, or I will receive a point on my record. I made the appointment for today, so that I can avoid being penalized, and so I could make sure I have enough medication to perform the job duties that will ultimately help me escape the abuse that I was living in. Again....I am doing everything possible to mitigate my circumstances but because NEXUS refuses to adhere to the agreement we made, I had to leave and was refused service. Hence the reason I have reached my limit and am writing this review. Ironically, after 90 days on the new job, I will have health insurance and won't have to deal with this. Not to mention, Nexus will actually make MORE MONEY because self pay patients are given a reduced rate. Furthermore, after stepping away to call my new job and the shelter to see if I could reschedule the appointment, I could hear them talking about me behind my back at the front desk. They were laughing and complaining about me and I heard EVERY WORD! For someone that just escaped domestic violence, these ladies retraumatized me today, wasted what little resources I had and will now cost me a point at my new job.

We had seen your PA the last visit and she set up some test for Phyllis. Tuesday was supposed to be the appointment with Dr Goldman. We arrived a few minutes early and started our wait. No other patients were in the waiting area. After a half hour had passed my wife spoke to the receptionist and asked if we had been forgotten. She made a phone call and shortly we were escorted to Exam room 12 and a one of your staff took some vitals on Phyllis. It was observed that he O2 was low and I then went to our vehicle and got her concentrator. Our wait continued, with no other personal coming into the room. I could hear chatter and laughter from outside the room the whole time. We again waited for well over a half hour when we both decided it was time to leave. As we were leaving one of your employees seemed to note that and asked if we were leaving, I responded that yes, we were as it felt as no one there was interested in seeing my wife. She then ASKED IF WE WANTED TO RESCHEDULE to which I responded why would we want to do all the waiting all over again. We then left your office very discouraged with how my wife was treated as if it did no matter how long you wait to see a specialist, the impression is your time doesn't matter. However, to us every minute is important and wasting time sitting in a doctor's office with no contact with anyone is a true waste of our time, which to us it very important. I see that you and your staff do not share that. On closing I would have expected someone from your office to reach out to my wife. But I guess that would have taken up too much of your staff's time as they seemed so busy when we left (that is sarcasm) as no one was doing anything except talking with one another. Respectfully, Robert Bessinger, Caretaker of Phyllis Bessinger
