I had a minor knee surgery done there in December 2023. The staff were all exceptionally professional, and my knee is still vastly improved.

The company changed there policy for dispensing medicine after major surgery and if your chronic pain patient who takes medicine regularly beware! Don't do surgery because they are under medicating patients now!! No matter how much begging and crying and now I'm back taking ibuprofen because my pain isn't controlled that's going to delay healing!! I dont know what else to do! This honestly is inhumane abuse and medicam torture! I understand risks with addiction etc but I also understand not treating oain is going to lead to whole new stack of health problems. I am ready to pass out when I drive because the pain is that severe. And it's same when I'm a passenger. I can't even wear the neck brace they want me to because it's so painful. Er dr look at you like your drug seeking if you go in for uncontrollable pain. I don't know what else to do? I can't believe they want patients to suffer! If I had been informed that the policy changed I would of never had surgery and I'm needing one more this year. I don't know what I'm going to do? read more

This place crippled me. I had a total knee replacement, Dane Hanson cut my tibia too short. I went from a great career in commercial construction making great money, to trying to get by on two thousand dollars a month on disability. I now have lower back problems, a huge knot in my thigh, and pain and a burning numbness in my foot. I also have a torn acl and meniscus in my other knee due to it having to compensate. My life got turned upside down and I'm now living a nightmare. They won't do anything to help me. They're reply was, " OH, I guess you'll have to get a lawyer ". I have been fairly happy with Summit Orthopedics for the Vadnais Heights and Woodbury locations. The only struggle I have had is after having injections, that the doctors don't like to prescribe pain meds. I have had 4 different epidural/steroidal injections in the last 3 months and they have caused significant pain for 2-3 days afterwards and I have missed a lot of work due to this. If I was given something right away for the pain, it would have been easier to get through those 2-3 initial days and I would not have had to miss work. I also do not like the fact that it can be difficult to get any discharge instructions or work restrictions after the procedures. Whenever I leave any Allina clinics, I am given specific notes and after visit summaries. I am a person that wants everything documented so that if I have questions afterwards, I can refer to the paperwork. The doctor's and other staff members are very friendly and usually seem to care about your health moving forward. The reason why I say usually is because I have felt not listened to on a couple different occasions. I know what is going on with my body and I need to be heard regardless of other past circumstances from their other clients. read more

Outrageously expensive. I had my foot checked and they did a couple of X-rays. Nothing broken, so no boot, no cast, no injections, just sent away with a piece of paper with some instructions. I paid my Orthopedic invoice in April 2024. A year later, I received a revised invoice indicating that I owed more money. In talking with their billing department, I was told this was an issue with Health Partners claiming they overpaid for X-ray services. At this point, neither Health Partners nor Summit will take responsibility for this error. I have a bad taste for both Summit and Health Partners. According to an employee at Summit, they became aware of the billing issue as far back as October 2024. I am just hearing about this in May 2025. I am frustrated and feel as if I have been taken advantage of because of the errors from both Summit and HP. There has not been any resolution from either party, but I have decided that I will not continue my relationship with Summit. read more

They have great walk in hours during the week and weekends, and you are seen at a WAY better pace than the Urgency Room!!! Dr. Drogt did a partial knee replacement on my right knee 8 months ago, and hands down he is definitely a TOP DOCTOR! I am so happy I went to Summit Orthopedics for my surgery. I had an appointment today for a steroid shot in my knee via ultrasound. Josh & Dr Probst were so great. Didn't keep me waiting and explained every step of the process....from the numbing needle... you're going to feel a burn to the ultra sound gel and the actual shot....you're going to feel a pinch. This was my second such shot ever so I couldn't remember if it was painful so I was overly chatty... they were both kind and tolerant of my ramblings which besides my chattiness also helped keep me calm. I told the doctor this and he said "oh no this isn't like that" lmao later in a phone conversation he admitted it's the same BS. I wasn't there for pain management, i stopped going to pain clinics because of these horrible injections. I was being seen to find out what's wrong and fix it. The injections would fix the fact I have 4 discs into my spine in my neck. Nope. They just want to prolong my misery to line their pockets with non FDA approved garbage medicine. How can I put into words how grateful I am to Dr. Kirk Scofield, Kelly, Kyra, and the wonderful people at Summit Orthopedics? To say that I experienced miraculous healing wouldn't be an exaggeration, and I thank God for answering my prayers. Dr. Scofield's expertise, honesty, caring demeanor, and masterful injections have enabled me to live my life more fully, without any pain or discomfort in my knees (and, in turn, hips, legs, and back). While the reality is that I will need knee surgery at some point, I am forever grateful and blessed that the injections that Dr. Scofield has given me in both of knees have alleviated pain that made every step--and even standing still at times--incredibly painful. In 2005, a few years after I was rear-ended by a drunk driver at 60 MPH while I was stopped, a doctor told me that this caused chondromalacia (the cartilage in my knees was disintegrating). I was 26 at the time and had creaking sounds and grinding in my knees. However, I didn't start having some moderate pain and stiffness until 2019. That's when I first reached out to Summit Orthopedics. I saw Dr. Wickham, who was also very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful (I'm a Jane Austen fan, so I took it as a sign I was in the right place). I was asking about stem cell injections, so he referred me to Dr. Scofield. I was open to paying the significant cost for stem cell injections if it meant I could avoid knee surgery and be out of pain. Thankfully, Dr. Scofield treats the whole patient and works with you to find the most effective treatments at the lowest costs. He suggested I first try things that insurance would cover. Good call. They took MRIs and x-rays of my knees to determine the cause of the pain: I have no cartilage in my left kneecap and next to nothing anywhere else. It is what it is, and I'm thankful to be alive, so we focused on solutions. He drained a lot of fluid from both knees in November 2019. In March 2020, I had my first hyaluronic acid injections and WOW, what a difference! It was incredible. Unfortunately, in November 2021, I made the mistake of working on a project on the ground for several hours, and my knees paid the price. Within a few days, I was in a lot of pain. My knees felt stiff, stairs were unbearable, and my knees were swollen. I couldn't get on the ground to play with the children in my preschool, I couldn't run around playing games with them like usual, and I moved much slower than usual due to the pain. Dr. Scofield drained some fluid and injected hyaluronic acid in both knees in December 2021, which helped, but I didn't have complete relief like I did before. Dr. Scofield and I discussed Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections, and he mentioned that some patients seem to find greater relief when the PRP and hyaluronic acid injections are done together. Since my insurance only covers those every six months, I decided to wait until July 2022 to have the injections done simultaneously. Although I was in a lot of pain and taking ibuprofen every day, I'm so glad I waited. The informational packet and everything I had researched online said that pain could increase for up to 2 weeks, and it would take 4-6 weeks after the PRP injections to start feeling any relief. Well, on the 3rd day, I was feeling better, and it was all uphill from there. By day 5, I didn't have any pain or stiffness in my knees, and I had more flexibility than I had in years. My knees weren't swollen, I could walk easily, and stairs didn't cause issues. Twelve days after the injections, I traveled to Cancun with my husband and friends, and I was able to enjoy every minute of it thanks to Dr. Scofield. I had been in so much pain before that I was worried about taking the trip. I was able to swim and be pushed ahead by dolphins, run in the ocean (and their waves were rough), go parasailing, tackle stairs like a champ, ride a jet ski, swim all day, do aquarobics, and so much more...without any pain! My husband and our friends were as amazed as I was. I am still pain-free more than 6 months later and just had the hyaluronic acid injections done this month only to provide support for my knees and try to get ahead of any issues. It's been a night and day difference from a few years ago. I have always been greeted warmly at check-in, the waiting areas and patient rooms are always clean and comfortable, and I have never waited long to be seen by Dr. Scofield or his assistants. These things all add to the perfect experiences I've had at 4 different Summit locations. I am so blessed to have Dr. Scofield as my orthopedist. My husband has been treated since 2018 by a number of Summit physicians & physical therapists due to multiple injuries due to a serious fall at work. We can't say enough good things about ALL of the physicians & therapists that have been a part of his care over the years! Every single surgery or procedure that they've performed on him (which are 7, I believe), have been done to absolute perfection. My husband has not had ANY complications, infections or had to have a do-over with any of them. It's a given that Summit is our automatic "go to" when it comes to needing care, they've definitely earned our trust and deserve every star in our 5-star review, heck we'd give them 100+ stars if that were possible! I got in quickly. That ends the positive part of my experience. Took X-rays before a physicians assistant even came in the room. The PA spent minimal time with me, and had an assistant bring me a print out of exercises. The exercises made me feel a lot worse. I did get a referral for physical therapy (so that was good as well). My physical therapist (not through Summitt) said exercising was the worse thing I could be doing right now and I needed ice and rest. Maybe if the PA had spent more than 5 minutes with me I wouldn't have set my recovery time so far back. I do not recommend if you want to see a doctor who actually cares about your recovery. read more

awful place! after 26 years of going here, i will never go back! gone are the days when we saw the super awesome doctors who started this place! oddly high turn over of docs! i've had several surgeries here, but last time the doc botched my hand surgery! i went back to a new doctor. i was to have have an mri, and see her about it on june 19. they couldn't even get me in for an mri until july 3! i was then rescheduled to see the doc on aug. 1. they called today to cancel yet again! and also informed me that the doc would no longer be working at my convenient location! meanwhile, my hands are almost useless because of the pain! and my fingers still trigger! unbelievable! i'm done with this place! don't go here! the quality of their doctors is below zero! i have more stories, but suffice to say, they've become a horrible, uncaring machine! read more

I've had some decent experiences here, but I went in to the OrthoQuick in October because I had lost feeling from the knee down on my right leg (couldn't move my foot at all) - which happened overnight. The PA Julie never once watched me try to walk. She didn't even have me stand up. She never physically assessed me, she just said things like "well I know this is scary" and then told an anecdote about a friend who had foot drop and was fine later. OK?? The PA Julie's plan was to essentially do nothing. My mom had to convince her, with much urging, to get an MRI the next day. A few hours after the MRI, Julie called me and told me to rush to the ER for emergency surgery on a herniated disc. No apology. The surgeon told me it was the biggest herniation he's ever seen in his career. 3 months after surgery and I still have no function or feeling. Sometimes I wonder if she'd been better at her job, I wouldn't be (most likely) permanently disabled. read more

After never receiving a reply from Summit Orthopedic like the reply to my initial review said...I received bills from 2 companies (summit and the anesthesiologist). I called multiple times to their office to try and figure out the actual balance since my bills didn't match what they told me and not even a little bit close to the estimate they gave me. I thought it was a little messed up i agreed to a $9,0XX estimate and while I was unable to answer for myself because of anesthesiology they did work that I can not only not prove was done but couldn't even tell them not to do the extra work because I can't afford the extra bill. It was wrong. Maybe for someone who has insurance cover the bill but not for someone uninsured. Here's where it gets good (sarcasm).. after calling multiple times about the bill and getting a run around for over a year....yes over a year (almost 2)...and never getting a solid answer I was sent to collections. But they didn't just send 2 bills to collections they sent over 8 yes EIGHT! Bills to collections. I will be contacting an attorney about this and using all the money I set aside for the $9,0XX bill towards legal fees to make sure I am represented by the best! Stay FAR AWAY from this company. Lastly and by far the best part (still sarcasm) my ankle is still not functioning close to normal. Probably because of them denying me physical therapy while scamming me by doubling my bill while i was incoherent from their anesthesiologist. Again, stay away from these people. If I can help one person not get scammed by these guys it'd be worth every effort I make until they get my bill fixed and take their collections off my credit report! read more

Had my hip replaced with Dr Drogt 3 months ago. Doing GREAT!! No concerns what so ever. Next to ZERO pain and I walked 5.5 miles 2 days ago. Back to spin class. My follow up visits with Dr Russ were also superb. He took a lot to time just to answer any and every question I had. He put my concerns completely at ease! I have no complaints, don't see why waiting and noise is a problem. Considering that COVID has been around since 2020, most clinics are behind and short on help. I had my right rotator cuff fixed, bursitis in my knee, pinched nerve in my neck and now to have my left shoulder fixed. I've been to Ortho Quick for my knee and my shoulder, the PA's are great and schedule with a follow with the doctor. Due to my latex allergy, Summit partnered with RAYUS and Im now controlling my pain with a spinal cord stimulator. If not for that connection, I'd still be suffering with back and joint pain. read more

Horrible scheduling because there mistakes they have let sitting at home in pain. Just got a call about mri results and I never even got my mri. Doctor very rude tries to come up with any excuse to defend there issues. I'm leaving there office in a horrible situation again and they could care less 0 stars for there lazy nursing and ortho Doc's. I've have this identical problem with my knees years ago and was treated with great care. Now waiting for mri a results and filing a complaint then may go contact attorneys to get sent to a place for proper care. read more

My husband had both hip replacements w/Dr Beibl and they were superb. I was stunned by some of the negative comments about Summit! . I truly believe that you get what you give. I had rotator cuff surgery with a doctor there (sorry I can't remember his name) who was equally terrific and I couldn't b more pleased with my outcome -- complete full range motion and a mean backstroke when swimming!! I had appointments at Summit Orthopedic in Buffalo, Plymouth, and the Surgery Center in Eagon. I had appointments with Dr. Ekstrom and surgeon Dr. Guerreo. Both of these doctors took the time to make sure I fully understood my MRI results, and my options. They understood the severity of my back and sciatic nerve pain, and moved quickly to get me in for surgery. They talked to me and my condition like my health REALLY mattered to them. Dr. Guerro had such a great demeanor. During my office visit he made sure ALL my questions and concerns were answered before I left his office. The day of my surgery, while in preop, I heard him walk into the surgery center with a very cheerful, uplifting voice while talking to the other nurses and doctors. "Happy Tuesday" I could here him saying. After my surgery he spoke to my husband and even showed him a picture on his phone of the protruded disk they had removed. He had my husband take a picture of the image on his phone, so I could see what they removed from me. The nurses at all 3 locations were extremely compassionate, kind, nurturing, and let me know that I mattered to them. I wasn't just another patient. They made me feel "seen, heard, and valued". From MRI review, to steroid injection,to surgery consultation, to surgery, the entire Summitt Orthopedic team have been totally on my side. I think I am going to be done with this clinic even though I like a couple doctors. It's the staff that is hurting this clinic. It is not acceptable to call and leave a message for the doctor's office and not get a call back in 3 days. I have been suffering and all I need is steroid pack to help me but here it is Friday and I still have nothing when I called on a Tuesday. I have had both my knees replaced in the last 6 months and I couldn't be happier. Dr Drogt and his team were amazing. I loved the team approach, they were easy to reach and treated me with respect and listened to my concerns. Dr Drogt is wonderful, and a great surgeon. The surgeries went well and the recovery was easier than I expected. I wish I had it done sooner, the pain has easier than I expected and I'm feeling great 12 weeks out from my second surgery. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr Drogt. He is awesome, he even gave me his cell phone number in case I had questions, who does that these days. He also took a picture of my knee that I requested during the surgery. He's easy to talk to and makes you feel like your his only patient. My first experience with Summit Orthopedics and Dr. Jack Drogt was through my mother who had 5 joints replaced over the course of about 10 years. Although I can't recall who specifically referred my mother to Dr. Drogt, I can say with confidence that God sent her to the best doctor for her. He has been humble, kind, caring and competent throughout these last 10 years and 5 joint replacements. When it was time for me to have my own hip replaced, I couldn't think of a better organization to trust with my own surgery than Dr. Drogt and the team at Summit Orthopedics. Dr. Drogt and his staff did a superb job on my hip replacement and I'm feeling great about the whole process - including the recovery. My appointment was at 10:30, it is now 11:48 and at least I am in a room. Used to love Summit, not so much anymore. I've been here for knee replacement and finger surgery. Had a partial knee done in 2015 and been having issues with it for at least a year. Every time I have an appoitment with Dr Breine I wait for at least an hour. They over schedule and in the process have no respect for your time. I didn't plan on being here for two hours now I have to replan my day because they have no time management skills or regard for your day. read more

I received no apology or even a realistic look at how long I needed to wait past my appointment time. Honesty goes a long way, your patients have time commitments too! Do NOT waste your money with these unprofessional so called "physical therapists." They could careless about you as a person and patient. I pay out of pocket and simply wanted a recommendation of treatment so I could contact the billing department to get estimated cost for 2019. I was transferred to leave a message at a general VM and left numerous messages for Tom T., no return calls. Finally, they transferred me to his correct VM. Besides leaving numerous of VMs, I had to send him numerous emails. When I first saw him, he recommended treatment for 6-12 months of dry needling and charged me for this evaluation but it took NUMEROUS VMs and emails to get it in writing -- then he changed what he told me in writing. Unbelievable! I am the patient, I am paying you but you can't give me an estimated idea of cost and how many treatments I need for 2019? Yet I was charged over $500 for the assessment??? And because he was only available on Wednesdays and Fridays, the receptionist scheduled me with an Erica, who I find out when I got to the appointment was not "trained" in dry needling for certain body parts -- the part I needed help most she could not do. She actually said to me well, if you wanted Tom you should have scheduled ahead of time. Now how would a patient know what therapist is capable of what type of service? The only reason I went to these people was convenience because of my hectic work schedule and they were close to my job -- that's it. I have gone to many health professionals and have NEVER experienced such unprofessional and UNcaring people. These are NOT health care professionals. And they do not care about you as a patient or the pain you are suffering even when they charge you thousands of dollars. Read all the negative reviews which will speak for itself the type of service you will receive. I am sure the real doctors are great but the physical therapists are a joke. I don't always get hurt, but when I do, I am very comfortable going to Summit Orthopedics. I had my first every (what I would consider major surgery) on my knee and the whole staff was fantastic. It was for my knee. Okay, so maybe not major. But it was an ordeal for me. Two TKR surgeries and now after over a year I feel great! I can't believe the difference this has made in my life. The first surgery was difficult that I will not deny.. ..I said I would never do it again. However, a few months later I was back in.....it was so worth it. Everyone was very kind and helpful. I only gave it 1 star because it was the lowest option. They call it ortho quick but it's ortho slow. It's been forever since my appointment and I haven't been called to go. Also, they said my knee was a bone contusion but apparently it's a muscle tear. IM SO MAD. They are so slow, and have even managed to slow down my recovery. Dont come here. I went to Summit Orthopedics because I thought I had broken 2 of my fingers (ring finger and middle finger) on my right hand; I am right handed. X rays were taken and I was told I had one broken finger. I was given splints (that went from the tip of my finger to above the middle knuckle for both fingers. The middle finger began to get really stiff and the middle knuckle stopped bending. At a follow up visit a month later, Dr. Anderson told (Telehealth) me that I had the been given the wrong kind of splint for the middle finger. (He suggested a popsicle stick and tape to help the finger straighten.) Because this was during covid 19 I elected to not go to the office. Another month later and the finger had not straightened. Another visit (Telehealth) with a different doctor confirmed that the first splint was a mistake, in fact it seemed he hardly believed that that were the splints I had been given. He suggested I come in for a splint. When I said that I didn't have much faith in Summit, he said he did not blame me. It is now 2 1/2 months out from my first visit. My middle finger still doesn't straighten, the middle knuckle is at a 35 degree angle and the first knuckle doesn't bend at all. The ring finger seems to have a drop from the first knuckle to the tip that I am able to straighten manually but doesn't stay on its own. I am an artist. And even aside from that, which is very serious. I can't even cut an onion. NEVER GO TO SUMMIT ORTHOPEDICS. read more

Impossible to book appts for cortisone shot . If I could wait a few months out I wouldn't need the shot . Perhaps not accepting patients you cannot see. I told them I needed midway or St. Paul when I began my treatment. If these clinics are too busy you should have referred out . It's called ethics. read more

I would not use the walk in clinic. You will see physicians assistants first. But if I had gone directly to an orthopedist, I would have skipped the 2 visits I was charged for at the walk in clinic where my knee pain was not getting resolved. It took a month before I decided I needed to see the orthopedist. By the time I had my knee surgery I had seen 2 different PAs and then the Dr. After my surgery, at my 7 days and 6 week check ups I never saw the Dr again. Just the PAs. read more
