Dr. Ryu is one of the nicest doctors I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. You can tell he genuinely has a passion for what he does and truly cares about his patients. I was dealing with some blurriness in my right eye, and Dr. Ryu allowed me to come back twice so he could take the time to thoroughly analyze what was going on. He spent a significant amount of time with me, explaining everything in a way that I could understand and making sure I had the proper prescription moving forward. The office is clean, organized, professional and the entire staff is incredibly welcoming. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Highly recommend Summit Optometry and Dr. Ryu! read more

I recently brought my kids here for an eye exam. Dr John is absolutely amazing, he took his time explaining everything to us. Vanessa at the front desk was amazing, she helped my son pick out a pair of glasses. Overall everything was great except when we picked up my son's glasses. We went to pick up the glasses on Wednesday September 9, the person at the front desk was rude and condescending. read more

If you're looking for an eye doctor, STOP right here. I am not even joking. I called a whole bunch of places to find an eye doctor. Out of everyone, the phone call I had with this place was so sweet and kind. This was my first visit here, and I have to say.... Dr. Ryu, the eye doctor was AMAZING like SERIOUSLY. AMAZING AMAZING. 10/10 He took his time explaining everything in simple, easy-to-understand terms, which really helped me learn a lot about my eyes and vision. I left feeling informed and enlightened. You can tell he truly cares about his patients and wants them to understand what's going on. There's not a lot of doctors that are like that'. This one is special. 10/10 amazing workers. They were helping me find what glasses looked nice on me and took their time helping me find a pair. 10/10 experience overall. I highly higly recommend going here for your yearly exam or check ups. read more

Summit Optometric Eye Care - Eyewear & Opticians Near Me - Simi Valley, California

Came today and booked an appointment. There are 2 ladies at the reception sitting and no one inside. Asked to try glasses to and they refused as they have to clean it after. How would I know if it fits me then? And you can clean it, it's your job! Asked to know how much the lenses will cost us, she refused and said it is a big list to go through. Again 2 employees working and no one inside and they will not do anything. I canceled my appointment and will go somewhere else. read more

I'm really impressed by Dr. Ryu. So impressed that I booked my husband an appointment the same afternoon! I've been going to Len's Crafters and America's Best for all my optometry needs as I thought that a private practice would be much more expensive. I couldn't have been so wrong! First off, Dr. Ryu did all the testing on me. My previous experience with the aforementioned places have been completely different. With Len's or America's Best, you were typically tested with a Tech and then you wait to see the doctor. With Summit, Dr. Ryu performed all the test himself and he also explained each and every single thing he was performing. (Did I understand them all? No. But, it was cool to learn a little bit about my eyes that no one has ever explained to me about.) It was such a positive experience especially to have a doctor exude such passion with what he does. I arrived at the appointment and got seen very quickly. Which has never happened to me where I used to go! I also bought a titanium frame from one of our trips and I was really hoping they can use the frame with my new prescription. Dr. Ryu said it wasn't a problem at all! It's in the same plaza as Stater Brothers so parking was not an issue and they were very easy to find. Lastly, this place is definitely where I'll be referring anyone I know for optometry needs. Thank you so much Dr. Ryu! I wish you also did General Practice :) read more

Great optometrist. Very friendly and extremely thorough. exam uses the latest software. I have a difficult correction and the glasses came back perfect with his help. His wife does the frames and unlike many places doesn't hurry you or push for more expensive frames. She attempted to save me money but I asked for Ray bans. They have a large selection of high-end frames. Will be sending my family to them. read more

Great doctor, staff, and frame selection! I have been going to Dr. Ryu's office for several years now and he always takes time to explain the process of eye examinations to help me understand how it works. Highly recommend! read more

Such an amazing staff! The doctor is extremely thorough and thoughtful in his approach to procedures. He makes you feel comfortable and well informed throughout the entire exam. I haven't had an eye exam in over ten years, but I decided to take advantage of the vision insurance my company offered. Booking an appointment was pretty easy (it could be done online through Booksy), and I got a call the next day to gather some information and confirm my appointment. I was greeted with a friendly welcome by the receptionist (so sorry, I didn't catch your name!) and Dr. Ryu. Dr. Ryu gave a very comprehensive eye exam and clearly explained my eye condition and how I was able to get by for so long without glasses. I also liked that he did not pressure me to get something that I didn't need, while still clearly emphasizing the benefits of having glasses. It was a very informative appointment, and I was actually excited to order my first pair. The receptionist spent a lot of time helping me pick out frames that I liked, and I left the office feeling good about my future life with clearer vision. Thank you Dr. John and team! Highly recommend this office! read more

Been coming here for over 6 years, every few years for a routine eye check and to update my lens prescription. Always a great experience. Doctor is always so nice has a great attitude and will always explain details to me. Him and his staff are awesome and I'm so glad to see they're still around. read more

Amazing service and phenomenal eye doctor! I hate seeing doctors of any kind but Dr. Ryu was so kind and explains everything so I left with answers to questions I didn't know I had! My experience (as a very anxious person) was so great I wanted to make a review even before leaving. Beatrice who answers the phone and works the front is beyond incredible- if I ever wanted to hire a receptionist I'd want them to be like her. Extremely kind, quick and helpful. I normally order from Costco but found this place on Yelp since Costco doesn't cover heainsurance. 10/10 experience. I don't know why I was going to Costco for my exams and contacts! read more

I'm very happy to have found Dr. Ryu at Summit Optometric Eye Care. I had an eye emergency and my PCP said I needed it looked at right away. Cold calling late afternoon on a Friday, Dr. Ryu's office fit me in before EOD! I got lucky! I was impressed by Dr. Ryu's technical expertise, his habit of explaining what he was doing every step of the way and his kind "bedside manner". His responses and evaluations are very considered and I felt confident I was having an accurate assessment of what could have been a very scary situation. read more

I stumbled upon Summit Optometric when one of the legs fell off of my glasses. I walked in with no appointment, and the front desk rep was really kind and let me know they'd fix them! They had them fixed same day! Prior to this, I was a patient at Miramar Eye Center and had been going to them for the last 5 years. They were awful, and always booked me 3-5 months out for an eye exam. But I had established rapport with them so I dealt with it. I was having more difficulty seeing out of my regular prescription, and was so desperate for an exam. I asked Summit while they were fixing my glasses, if they were accepting new patients, and she booked me an appointment for the same week! Fast forward - I met Dr. Ryu and had the most amazing experience. He really took the time to get to know me and treated me with the utmost respect and had incredible bedside manner. I had a lot of questions and he answered every single one with no hesitation. Miramar had forced me to get transitional lenses to "maximize my coverage" even though I had said I didn't want it, and it bothered me so much! I would only wear my glasses at night because of it. Dr. Ryu listened to my frustration and assured me that there would be no pressure at all to do anything I wasn't comfortable with. He explained my astigmatism and vision SO well! He even showed me online images to reference and understand. If I seemed hesitant on a certain sense, he would triple check to ensure it was perfect. I really can't say enough about how great he and his office staff are. They will make you feel like you're their only patient, and won't rush you! He was also super punctual! I don't remember who was working the front desk during my exam, but she was amazing as well! She helped me pick the perfect glasses, and was a total sweetheart. Also, the turn around time on getting my new glasses was less than a week. I got my glasses today, and was almost in tears because of how well I can see now! Summit Optometric is the only place I will go moving forward. Thank you all SO much! read more

our first visit was today. The staff and Dr Abo were very thorough. I absolutely loved the customer service and would highly recommend this office! My husband needed a referral for cataract surgery and the doctor drafted the referral immediately. Thank you for a pleasant experience. read more

Called this office to get an exam for contacts. They said they don't accept my insurance and it would be a total of $110 for the exam, I said no problem. They then called me back the next day saying actually it's going to be $210 because the doctor wants to do a lens exam for glasses as well because I'm a new patient. I said I already am wearing glasses and have a prescription for them, the reason I am coming here is for contacts. They said nothing could be done because the doctor wants to give me an exam for glasses. Why? The whole point of me coming to get contacts is to move away from glasses, not get another prescription for, you know, glasses! Edit: so upon calling other optometrists it is pretty standard to have what is called a "comprehensive" exam because they base the contact prescription off the lens prescription. So my problem here lies with the woman working the phones. Unhelpful and uninformed when failing to explain all of this to me. Took me canceling and having to call other offices where staff took the time to explain this to me. read more

Dr. Ryu is incredibly knowledgeable and patient. He explained everything clearly and answered all my questions. In 40 years, he's the best optometrist I've seen. Highly recommended! read more

I came after not getting an eye exam done for who knows how long. This Doctor is amazing. He is so intelligent and passionate about his profession. Great Business overall! Great Customer Service! Communicates with customers well. Customer service is down right amazing. There have been a few instances that I had to pick up my girlfriend's contacts and would not be able to get there before they close. By far the best eye exam and eye doctor I have ever come across!!!! Dr. John is by far the best optometrist I have ever encountered! I came to this place through sightbox, an online program where I could receive monthly contact lenses. I was amazed with Dr. John's work ethic and clarity during the eye exam. He explained everything to where I could easily understand my results and be able to explain it to someone else. I highly recommend this place for anyone's eye needs! He is a dedicated optometrist that won't let you leave until you are satisfied. *Update* Dr. John Ryu does it again! Came back to renew my prescription and yet he does not disappoint. I can rant about how great he is but the past reviews including my original one speaks for itself. You want a great optometrist? After my last communication with Dr. Ryu I knew I had to write this review for his practice. Dr. Ryu is by far the best doctor I've had in my entire life. His personality puts you at ease rather than clam you up, and that is vital for me when visiting any medical practice. He doesn't make you feel like "just another patient" and was extremely attentive during our appointment. To top it off, the office is spectacularly clean and the receptionist is easy to work with over the phone. Their selection of contact lenses and frames is varied enough that you should be able to find the perfect look/feel. The amount of knowledge he shares with you about your own eyes is astonishing. I felt like I knew enough about my eye health before my first visit with Dr. Ryu, but I was wrong. I learned more about my eyes and their health during our first appointment than all of my previous optometrist visits combined. He was able to help me find the best type of contacts for my lifestyle and day-to-day needs, and the entire process leading up to that made me feel like I made the right choice going to his practice. read more

I have been getting my eyes examined for over 40 years and never NEVER have I had a more wonderful experience than yesterday when I saw Dr. John. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a warm smile from the gentleman behind the counter (who's name I can't recall), followed closely by Dr. John introducing himself and chatting with me while I filled out paperwork. I wish Dr. John were a doctor of everything! The exam was incredibly thorough and Dr. John has a really wonderful knack for explaining even complicated medical things in a way that's easy to understand. I truly can't recommend this office enough. I left feeling happy and positive and feeling like I wanted to tell someone - about an EYE EXAM. That, to me, is priceless. read more

Had a problem with my glasses, there was a misunderstanding on both of our parts and John quickly called me to let me know. It turned out to be a manufacturing error, and was given a solution immediately. John and the team and summit optometric never fails to impress me with their customer service. Many times I was informed on the status with my glasses and contacts and given free trials lenses. It's clear that John cares about his work and is very passionate and knowledgeable. It's easy to leave a review after one visit and say some nice words, but once you have a problem you quickly see how a business is truly functioning. Dr Ryu is one of the BEST Optometrists you can work with. He is very friendly, professional and educates you throughout every visit. He is amazing with kids and makes them feel comfortable too. He works with your insurance and can look up your plan details even before you arrive. Then he will take the time to explain your options. And speaking of options, he has many frames & lenses to choose from. Or if you need contacts, he has those too. Plus he is very competitive with pricing even compared to Costco or 1-800Contacts. And when he orders the contacts, they arrive quickly at his office. I needed a new supply of contacts. I was totally out! I sent him a message on FB messenger and he put a rush order on it, and I get to pick them up today! read more

So I haven't been to an optometrist since I was maybe in middle School, and honestly I never thought I needed to go. No one in my family wears glasses except 2 (but they are family by marriage) So I finally went cause I started feeling fatigue around the eys and sometimes dryness (it been a year I thought it was due to my allergies) Dr.John told me straight from the beginning that if he thought if I didn't need glasses he wasn't going to try and sell me, I thought that was awesome! The man is super funny and caring! Also Melissa! She was so sweet and helped me out choose the glasses that best suited my face! Thank you guys for everything! Best experience I've had getting my eyes checked. Dr. Ryu was cool - really nice guy, clearly very intelligent, but also easy to talk to and joke around with. My exam was pretty much the perfect balance of feeling quick and efficient while giving me the impression that the Dr. was being very thorough. I'm not an MD, but I really got the impression Dr. Ryu was paying more attention to the details of my eye exam than previous doctors, and this prescription was probably more accurate as a result. I'd definitely go back to Dr. Ryu again. read more

Truly the BEST optometrist I've had the pleasure to work with! Dr. Ryu is an extremely friendly, personable, intelligent, and knowledgeable professional. He takes the effort to explain your prescription and will continue to adjust and work with you until you're satisfied. I actually found Dr. Ryu through yelp, and I'm so glad I decided to stop by his office for new contacts! My previous optometrist was located in ktown and was really not great. Basically, she gave me the wrong contact prescription three times and I still ended up with contacts where I couldn't see that clearly! Since I recently moved to Simi Valley, suffice it to say that it was burdensome to go to ktown three times to exchange your contacts. Dr. Ryu adjusted my prescription twice until I felt comfortable and even followed up with me almost a month later to make sure that I was still seeing well with that prescription..such great service! Dr. Ryu and his office staff then worked with my insurance to actually let me apply some of my 2017 benefits at the end of 2016, since I was desperately in need of new contacts in December, so I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Ryu and Summit Optometric Eye Care. Simply the best optometrist! read more
