It looks like mudding that was never evened out. The other photo shows where Juan's crew had ripped the top left portion of the tarp. You can see that the plastic is hanging over. Because that large spot was left open, one of the workers sprayed Killz paint on that section of my wall. Juan & his crew are amateurs - they don't know what they are doing and shouldn't be charging high rates for crap work. I had 4 roof repair companies come out to give me an estimate. It turned out, I had a leak around one pipe jack. Most gave me the option to seal around or replace the whole pipe jack and seal. The prices varied, but a coupe wanted to charge me double the others for pipe jack replacement. Finally, I got one last quote from José at Legendary Roofing. He gave me such a detailed explanation of the repair and my options. He charged me the same as the lower end quotes I received for the pipe jack replacement, but he also replaced all the pipe jacks on my house and did roof maintenance for that price. He also noticed some broken shingles from a tree rubbing against my house and replaced that too, all for a great price. I felt like he cared and took his time. And he showed me detailed pictures of everything done. Now, in 2020, he was the only one I called when I had a leak in a new area. He provided great detail, showed pictures of what was happening and showed me in my attic as well where a potential new leak could happen. He even gave me the option to seal the problem children for free versus replacing the plywood and shingles. I went with his recommendation to replace the plywood and shingles, and he also included some vents to my attic/roof for the cost. The repair was complete two days later.

They listened to what we wanted, explained why any changes to the plan needed to be made BEFORE any work was done, and were extremely thorough. They went above and beyond to make sure our house was done right inclusive of repairs and overall look. Shaun came out multiple times to see how the project was going, and also had his project manager Jesse overseeing anything he couldn't. We really appreciated the dedication Jesse and Shaun displayed, especially making sure that their crew slowed down while replacing the front of our home that had the most damage and character. They replaced and reinforced the bones where it was needed, and took the time to preserve the character of the unique look that the face of our house has. We also loved that there was one crew for siding and a different crew for painting instead of a one stop shop as these are different crafts. Found 1st choice roofing and hired to fix sections of my roof less than a year ago (June 2024). In…read moreaddition to the repair cost, they charged $700 for it being a 3 story home and another $600 for the pitch angle. At the time when the repair was being done, the speed at which they were working was a little concerning. This was due to the fact that I was sold on replacing all vents on the roof as well but witness the technicians leave without doing so. They came back soon after me contacting the project manager that I only only saw them go up with a bundle of shingles before and proceeded to complete the vent replacements. Once they completed the repairs, I contacted the project manager again and asked for drone footage of the repairs so I could compare them to the initial inspection photos. He then got offensive stating that his technicians were risking their lives in order to repair my roof and kept saying they stand by their workmanship and provide a 1 year warranty. I started to suspect the project manager did not fully explain to the technicians on what to repair and only repaired the obvious damage and not the improperly installed shingles the project manager sold me on to repair. Fast forward to today (April 2025), sections of my roof have shingles blowing off again which are photographed in the initial inspection last year. I contacted 1st choice to start a warranty claim and was soon told they can warranty shingles they replaced but the ones that were missed a few feet away is considered new damage and had to be treated at such. I told them ok, please get me an estimate on the repair and we can proceed with the warrantied areas. After receiving the estimate, they again charged the 3 story fee and pitch angle fee even though they will be going up to repair the warrantied areas anyways because it is "to be treated as new damage" while also stating on the estimate that they no longer can warranty any repairs because of the build material. I would not have found out my roof was damaged if I didn't switch insurance company and they send an inspector out to look at my roof. Missed agreed upon repairs and damaged repairs they are hesitant to fix. If they are currently working on your home, make sure you have footage of the completed agreed repairs after. If you're considering, make sure you have everything documented to cover yourself cause they are for sure covering themselves.

He came out and spent time evaluating my roof and speaking with me about all my options. Houston Roofing and Construction was the only company that was concerned about maximizing my ventilation system. Ryan immediately noticed that my particular roofing system was not sufficient for my house.He pointed out that my house didn't have many ridges, to support the Ridge Vent Ventilation System. He suggested that I go with a turbine system that would maximum my ventilation system that would in return help extend the life of my roof. Ultimately I opted to file an insurance claim which is quite a lengthy process. Ryan offered to come out when the insurance inspector came out to evaluate my roof. He helped me throughout the process and made sure I understood all the roofing terminology. He was an invaluable resource through the entire process. Houston Roofing company is a great choice if you are looking for a superior level of knowledge and service. During the installation, they caused severe damage to my front yard, including destroying a rare and expensive Japanese maple tree. Their method of "protecting" plants was just throwing a tarp over them, which did nothing to shield them from falling shingles and tools. A three-story ladder fell on my shrubs, damaging several, and worse -- it also fell onto my brand-new AC unit, bending the top grill. Since then, the ventilator has been rotating only millimeters away from the edge on one side, at risk of scraping. On top of that, there were permit issues. It took multiple emails and calls from me -- both to the company and the permit office -- to get it straightened out. They tried to tell me that "approval of the drawings" was the same as having the permit approved, which was not true. The confusion dragged out the inspection process unnecessarily. They never offered to fix or compensate for any of the damage. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend them.
