I found that DrTrujillo is arrogant and does not take the time to explain possible medical conditions/ or surgeries. His male PA is similar and forgot/declined to order his last approved rx of tramadol for my spinal surgery. I then had to travel the 2hrs on Saturday to request help at Summit ER. He then reported me as rude and stated that I do not like Trujillo (true) or PA HALL -truthfully I was tearful from pain and exhaustion but polite and truthful. But, PA HALL is patient and appears concerned and pleasant. However, this pain clinic is not interested in reducing your opioid consumption - rather will increase the amount of and type of as patient may request. read more

I brought my 10-year-old daughter for a visit with Dr Amaral to establish care and for a yearly wellness exam. We didn't have any concerns, we only wanted to establish care as her previous doctor moved away. I asked a clarifying question about which lines represented my daughter on the growth chart. Dr. Amaral pointed out that she has gained a little weight in the past two years, going from below average to around or a little above average, but still within the healthy range. I mentioned that I've read that some children do gain a little weight right before the onset of puberty. Dr. Amaral agreed with me that this does happen, and then he began discussing health and nutrition with us. He was talking about not eating processed foods and how he recently started watching his own weight and was startled to realize how many calories are in various foods. At first it was okay, but he went on for far too long to the point where I could see that my daughter was getting uncomfortable. It was clear to me that she felt targeted by his words, and that she felt like he was saying she was overweight. I interjected to say that my 10yo eats healthily and actually prefers vegetables, and that one of her favorite things to eat is vegetables from veggie trays. Instead of acknowledging this in any positive way towards her, he immediately asked if she eats the ranch dressing that tends to come with veggie trays. She said that she sometimes does, and he then went on another tangent about how many calories are in ranch dressing and how ranch dressing "ruins salads." This to a 10-year-old child whose eating habits he has no knowledge of-- a child who regularly eats plain vegetables and often eschews dressing entirely on her salads. Besides which, calories aren't inherently evil-- only in excess. The way he was talking, all calories are bad and should be avoided, but in my opinion, moderate calories for a growing child are perfectly acceptable. My daughter is very intelligent and was listening to every word he said. I never expected that she would be made to feel embarrassed and ashamed of her body in a pediatric doctor's office. We live in a world of body shaming and inappropriate body image issues, and the last thing I need is a doctor talking excessively about weight gain and calories to my child. I could see that she was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with his ongoing monologue about the evils of calories. When it became clear that he was not going to be wrapping things up anytime soon, I was obliged to interrupt him. I said, "Let's move on to something else; we don't want to give her a complex." He seemed a bit nonplussed by this and after that the appointment wrapped up quickly. As we were driving away, my daughter burst into tears. She said that she was so uncomfortable with him going on like that, and that she felt like he thought she was fat. She said she sat there hiding her stomach with folded arms because she felt so uncomfortable. We discussed what he'd said and how he was not aware of her actual eating habits and that he was wrong to have pontificated endlessly as he did. I write in hope of preventing the same sort of conversation from adversely affecting other children in the future. Dr. Amaral did not seem malicious in his intent, but he seemed entirely unaware of the effects of his words upon an alert and intelligent child. We will not be back to his office. I can only hope my child does not have lasting insecurities because of his thoughtless and insensitive approach. read more

I went into emergency room today for pain in my stomach ended up having my appendix removed I was discharged and went home having severe violent muscle spasms so I called hospital which didn't answer their phone. Then called 911 to be taken to hospital when I get there I inform my dr and nurses I was having spasms mind you I have two sleeves of tats. They gave me a pill that was no way in hell going to kick in, in time to stop the muscles from spasms. Then the nurse comes in asks me if I travelled recently I said does it matter if it's in the country she gives me an attitude and says traveling is traveling I said okay well I went to Colorado. I press the help button which I had to scramble and get from off of bottom of bed causing an enormous Amount of pain nurse didn't even bother handing it to me so I got hurt calling for help. Second nurse comes in says she's taking blood and urine okay no problem. Then comes and says she's giving me a medication it started with a v I didn't recognize it but I was on board given the pain I was in. Was told by the dr I had that he refused to admit me to the hospital in case of another muscle spasm attacked claimed it was protocol not to admit patients who had laperascopic surgery. Claimed hospital was full and wasn't going to fit me. So they give me this medication that starts with a v and I wake up freaking out blankets were on me, rails were put up and shit was moved around the room I asked the nurse what did you give me she says ketamine. She NEVER asked me or told me she was giving me ketamine I would have told her no like I did with the prior two surgeries I had. They administered medication without my permission and while I was out of it from the medication that started with a v sorry can't remember. So I wake up freaking out about how everything was changed I call my husband which by the way I was so messed up it took me forever to Call him. Then they discharge me with no muscle relaxers and deny me my right to stay in the hospital like I requested. Said nurse that pushed the ketamine wasn't helping me out of bed so I had to ask her then when she gets me out she leaves my foley on the side of the bed pulling it from my lady parts, then I had to ask her to get it then she tells me to walk down this hall and that hall to get out front to my daughter who was picking me up. I told her I need a wheel chair (walking completely bent over from the enormous amount of pain and in a ton of pain.) So I tell her I shouldn't have had to ask you for a wheel chair. How the only hospital on the mountain refuses a patient the right to stay is beyond me and how pushing ketamine without my permission is illegal. I will be following up with a lawyer over this like I said I had two prior surgeries where I told them no ketamine and this hospital administered it without my knowledge and the very thing I was afraid of happening did because I was given a medication that I didn't request and wasn't told about they pushed ketamine after I was out cold from the first medication. I woke up feeling like I was in a horror movie panicking because a lot of the stuff in the room wasn't the same unaware and confused about how stuff was moved in the room without me knowing that's when I asked her what they gave me and I informed her that it wasn't okay to give me a medication for without prior knowledge. She seemed to think it was amusing. I also called the dr put for treating me like I was an addict because he refused to give me the proper medication to stop my pain and told me that a pill was all he was going to give me when it took to long for pill to kick in a cried and suffered through the pain of spasms alone in a freak show of a hospital. I told him I felt as though he was judging me because I have two sleeves of tattoos and that I have my FBI Fingerprint clearance card and was in nursing myself. His arrogant attitude didn't care and he went about his judging me and refusal to admit me into a hospital I took an ambulance to. Why the original surgical doctor didn't prescribe me muscle spasms medication is beyond me. I kept calling with emergency button to have a girl come in and tell me they were busy and shut off the emergency call without helping me. I was in pain and no one was anywhere to be found. Update: Went in again today for shortness of breathe they said I should do a CT contrast scan while in scan I start yelling for help because my arm was on fire and swollen to the size of a softball the guy doing the scan said he's fed up he has had this happen to three patients in two days and that they are pushing 5ml too fast. Decided to go home with a second dose of what it's been like to be a patient in this hospital. My night consisted of being unable to breathe on two separate occasions had no idea that contrast re absorption could cause you to have difficulty breathing so waking up twice during the night unable to breathe has scared the living daylights out of me read more

All the nurses are the dumbest ladies ever. Obviously hired from the bottom of their class to work in a nonprofit hospital. I have 6 health issues at 49 years old and found zero courtesy from a bunch of brainless, self absorbed millennials. read more

I was admitted to Summit through the Emergency Department Friday evening and discharged Monday evening. The care I received was outstanding. Since we moved to Show Low in 2005, family members have been inpatients five times, and I have visited the hospital numerous times. I can't speak about "how it used to be", but today's Summit is definitely "up to snuff." read more
