I should have written this review long ago. My tendency, though, is always to tell "the whole…read morestory," and mine would be longish. So, I finally decided to listen to my boyfriend, who said, "You don't have to go back 12 or so years, when you first learned your mouth is as weird as the rest of you. Just start a couple years ago, and you might end up with something that doesn't have to be published by Simon and Schuster." So, here's an abridged version. I had a large torus palatinus, that I thought was normal -- until I needed an upper dental plate. Then I was surprised to learn that the bony growth in the roof of my mouth wasn't something everyone has! While an extraordinary dentist was building a plate around the torus, it started separating into two parts. Both were sore and inflamed, and had to be removed. Being a veteran, I have VA healthcare, and it's very good. However, it doesn't extend to dental work, and the dentist (Dr. Delf, of Arrowhead Dental in Rice Lake, WI) was going far beyond the call of duty, to support my remaining teeth, and build an exceptionally good upper plate -- without any charge to me! He sent me to Dr. Puffer, who was then practicing at Northern Oral Surgery and Implant Center, in Superior, WI. I just learned that he has retired, but I'm sending the review, anyway. Dr. Puffer did a great job for me, taking out the largest piece of torus right away, without any problem whatsoever. He removed the remaining portion later, and the healing time was fast. (This was something I'd been fearful of, because I'd long ago (12 or so years?) been told that my age might make the healing slow. Dr. Puffer did my surgery without charge, also, and I'm so grateful for that. Anyway, I'm glad for the doctor that he could retire, and I hope he's having a great time. But Superior lost a load of talent when he left. So, even though I'm late, I wanted to say thank you to Dr. Puffer, and everyone at Northern Oral Surgery.

A botched wisdom tooth removal caused permanent nerve damage. I had to invest in a red-light…read moretherapy device ($600) just to get any improvement. After multiple follow ups, days off of work for appointments, investment in the therapy device and not to mention the distress this caused me, Dr. Puffer wouldn't even consider waiving his portion of the bill (after insurance $494). I guess he needs the money more than I do? Now I'm left with seeing a nerve specialist to repair the damage. I can't speak to the entire practice, but I definitely don't recommend Dr. Puffer. This is just a small portion of the issues I had with this provider. Overall, very poor care from this place.

I called Piedmont Dental in Duluth to establish care for myself, my husband, and my daughter, and…read morethe experience was very disappointing. From the start of the call, the woman I spoke with had a rude and dismissive tone. When I asked if they were accepting new patients, she immediately focused on insurance and stated that they don't accept many plans and that many are out of network. When I shared our insurance information, she told me I needed to check with my insurance company. I explained that my husband had already confirmed they are in-network, but her tone became even more rude after that. She asked what we were looking for, and I explained that I'm currently having tooth pain and that we were also looking to establish routine care for my husband and daughter starting with cleanings. Throughout the conversation, she acted irritated and uninterested, as if she didn't want to be on the phone. She eventually stated that they are not scheduling new patients until August or September. Considering it is currently January, being told that cleanings and establishing care would be 7 months out was surprising. While availability is one thing, the lack of professionalism and poor communication made the experience even more frustrating. Overall, the interaction made it feel like new patients are not welcome. First impressions matter, and unfortunately, this one was not a good one.
