Restaurant front in a strip mall nestled between a Dollar Tree and a gym.

I can not believe I just had a hibachi meal for $6.99! Danville, y'all are lucky. I've had both express hibachi and sit down fancy smancy style Japanese steakhouses and this one takes the cake... well, steak. $6.99 beef tips that is. The location is a bit inconspicuous, in a strip mall attached and nestled between a Dollar Tree and a gym. At first you get the feel that it's an express hibachi, which in a way it was... only as far as the fact that they make it in the back, not at a hibachi table in front of you and the fact that the food arrived minutes after ordering. When I walked in, I have to admit that I was a bit put off by the sign that indicated that there's a $.50 surcharge for any order under $8. What I found most annoying about it is that after gratuity I spent well over $8. Did they seriously think this through? I assure you that it's more annoying and off putting to the patrons than the $.50 is worth. I ordered the beef tip hibachi. Even though they didn't make it in front of me, I could hear the chef in the back preparing what just might be the best hibachi meal I've ever had. Yep, I think I'm past the annoyance of the credit card penalty. Yep, it was the best hibachi I've ever had. The beef was perfectly flavored and not a hint of fat. The vegetables that are hidden by the mound of what they consider lunch portion size of beef, were fresh and tasty, not your average pre-chopped or frozen vegetables. I know fresh mushrooms when I see them. How far is Danville from Lexington? I would say that it's worth stopping in if you're passing through like I was, but I'm going to go as far to say that it's worth the trip from Lexington.

The patio was perfect - only complaint was old eyes had a hard time seeing the menu as it got dark outside. Service was great - our waitress was attentive and got our order in perfect, plus was able to split up the checks with no issue. Complimentary rolls were served after we ordered - they are sweet rolls but nothing like Texas Roadhouse. Let's just say I was okay after one roll. I ordered the chicken pesto with baked potato and my daughter ordered the chicken wrap with fries. Everyone else at the table ordered steaks. The chicken was a little tough and overcooked, and the baked potato was very good. Tables outside were a bit wobbly so the table rocked while I cut into my chicken. My daughter liked her fries and chicken wrap. Overall it was a solid meal, but don't think we'll be back.

Greens, plentiful toppings, and delicious prepared salads (I love the broccoli salad) make a great accompaniment to your meal, or a great meal all by itself. The burgers we have had there are phenomenal, and we have also enjoyed the fried pork chop and the whitefish. They also have some good specials and a loyalty program. As for the service, it has always been very good. Our servers have been friendly and helpful. Overall, we have had great experiences at Cattlemen's and we look forward to many return trips.

After a day long visit to Shaker Village, a 10 minute drive to the Old Owl Tavern (part of the…read moreBeaumont Inn) was the perfect choice for dinner. As soon as we parked the car we were greeted by a ginormous need of mint...the scent was inticing. The tavern does not take reservations and we arrived at the perfect time, around 5:30. But 6 pm the bar was full and most of the tables were also filled. The tavern had good character, dark, woody...with photos of rick houses on the wall along with paintings of two fierce owls. We were greeted immediately and had the pleasure of being served by the most pleasant and efficient waitress. Enough choices for bourbon, some good drafts, and a deliciously made dry martini (along with a coffee for our tea toatler yesterday) started is off. There was a nice selection of specials for the day...some of which only a true southerner could appreciate (fruit gel topped with mayo, tomato spicy over cottage cheese topped with mayo) and some like cream of broccoli soup and steak boardelaise that even a yank could appreciate. Our table settled on two orders of fried catfish which came with a choice of two sides...baked potato and coleslaw were the choices. One of our diners choose the fried chicken livers that came with cream gravy...she chose the broccoli soup and corn pudding as her sides. Our tea toatler chose the country fried steak. I will term you that everyone cleaned their plates...it was that good. A final round of coffee, the OK from the waitress that we could pick some mint (which was planted in our garden at home) and we were off. Guess who is coming back? Me!!!

I had the Hot Brown. Expected for the price freshly sliced deli ham and turkey on a nice slice of brioche toast. Got thin deli sliced turkey pulled out of package. Never found the ham unless it was the same color as the turkey. Found the thin soggy sandwich bread slice. All was smothered in a barely heated sauce. Are these made ahead of time then microwaved to order? For $20? My friend had prime rib. Also cold, mashed potatoes cold, we've had much better prime rib at franchises like Roadhouse or Cattlemens. The blueberry cobbler was a soggy mess. Friday night, only about 5 tables being served. It has gone from a nice restaurant with good food, to a local tavern where they'll throw something in the microwave for you if you're hungry. Bring your wallet. Waaay overpriced for the quality.

The first visit the restaurant was mostly empty. It's a large restaurant - Our server was good, and we immediately ordered the chicken Alfredo pasta and chicken tender salad. I forgot it came with complimentary croissants topped with honey butter, de-lish and a treat! Food came out quickly and it was delicious- our favorite was the chicken Alfredo pasta. Large portion size, chicken was moist and tender and came with a piece of toasted garlic bread. The salad was good too, large size with tenders that were moist. On our second visit we ordered the chicken tenders meal deal and the lime chicken meal. Both items came with two sides, for an affordable price. Portion sizes were great and again chicken was moist and tasty. Overall we will dine here again when we're back in town. We were surprised by the fast service and good food!

If you are looking for that elusive intersection of "quality" and "value" in the Bluegrass region,…read moreCheddar's Scratch Kitchen in Danville remains a powerhouse of casual dining. While many chains have moved toward "heat-and-serve" models, Cheddar's maintains its reputation by prepping the majority of its massive menu in-house, from hand-breading the chicken to whisking the honey butter for their iconic croissants. Located conveniently in the heart of Danville, this location strikes a perfect balance between a lively sports bar vibe and a cozy family eatery. The interior is characterized by warm wood tones, high-backed booths that offer genuine privacy, and a signature "great room" feel. Whether you're stopping in after a Centre College game or celebrating a family milestone, the atmosphere is consistently welcoming and unpretentious. The menu is expansive, but there are a few non-negotiables that we had that define the Cheddar's experience: The Honey Butter Croissants: These are more than just a starter; they are a cultural phenomenon. Flaky, warm, and glistening with a sweet honey glaze, they are the ultimate way to begin the meal. Hand-Breaded Chicken Tenders: These are arguably the gold standard for casual dining. They are never frozen, hand-dipped to order, and served with a signature honey mustard that has just the right amount of tang. The Monte Cristo: For those seeking a decadent indulgence, this sandwich is a masterclass. Smoked ham, turkey, and two cheeses are battered, fried golden, and dusted with powdered sugar, served with a side of raspberry preserves. Santa Fe Spinach Dip: A local favorite for sharing, this dip is creamy, loaded with flavor, and served with chips that actually hold up to the scoop. Homemade Chicken Pot Pie: A massive, flaky crust hides a savory interior of tender chicken and vegetables--the ultimate Kentucky comfort food. Unlike many establishments where sides feel like an afterthought, the options here hold their own. The Broccoli Cheese Casserole with its crunchy topping is a consistent winner, and the Southern Green Beans offer a nostalgic, home-cooked flavor profile. One of the most impressive aspects of the Danville location we found is the efficiency. Despite being a popular hub for both locals and travelers, the staff is remarkably attentive. The "made-to-order" nature of the food rarely translates into long waits, and the price point remains one of the best in the region for the portion sizes provided. You can't talk about Cheddar's without mentioning the Painkiller. It is served in a massive glass with a limit of two per person; this tropical blend of rum, cream of coconut, pineapple, and orange juice is the perfect weekend "reset" button. I recommend it if you are a connoisseur of mixed drinks. Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen in Danville isn't just a "chain restaurant"--it's a reliable local staple that respects the art of the kitchen. If you want a meal that feels like a splurge but fits a modest budget, this is the place to be.

I was back in the town I grew up in a couple of weeks ago, and heard there was a really nice cafe in Stanford now called the Bluebird, so I sought it out. I was amazed. This definitely is more like a place I would expect in Lexington or Louisville. The food is genuinely good. Iced coffee and espresso, hot browns, and lots of other food that was never in Stanford when I was growing up there as a kid. I know that Stanford went wet a few years ago in a referendum, but it's still surreal to see margaritas and other mixed drinks on the menu in a place in Stanford. The ambiance was friendly and welcoming, and struck a nice balance between small town friendly. I had a patty melt, which was probably the best meal I'd ever had in a restaurant in Stanford in my entire life. I will definitely be back the next time I come back to my old hometown.
