4.5 ! Dear À Terra,…read moreWe enjoyed your company not only for breakfast, but twice for dinner...not because we couldn't find something else, but because we wanted to try more of what was on your menu! Your service was fabulous, you had great options for both a hard core carnivore and fish-lover as well as a vegetarian, and your ambiance and space was an amazing conglomeration of indoor/outdoor/modern/cozy. I would come back in a heartbeat, especially for that wood fired pizza with the pear topping! Hope to see you again soon! XXO, Liana

Service was good, ordered the usual local fresh cheese, chef's garlic shrimps, and the grilled limpets. All the appetizers was pretty good, but not the best we've had so far on the island. For the entrees we ordered the traditional tripe, seafood rice and the grilled tuna. The tuna was tender and melted in your mouth, the tripe and seafood rice were bextremely salty. It was just too difficult to eat. Our fingers was swelling up just after a few bites and couldn't get enough water. But the is not a uncommon issue. Any of the "stewed" traditional dishes are super salty in most of the restaurants. I felt like I was a big piece of salted cod after how much salt was ingested from the entrees.

Absolutely incredible food. Would make a trip for just this restaurant!…read more We came in on a Wednesday, and the service staff kept hinting at slow service due to a large party. For how much they said this, we did not find the service slow, even as Americans! We had the quail egg, the tomato salad, and the bread for appetizers. The butter they had was incredibly delicious, and the tomato salad portioned the cut of the tomatoes incredibly well with the cheese. We got a pesto and the fish of the day. The fish was minimally prepared, which was excellent. The natural taste, as well as the pairing with the beet rice was really clever. This was better than any place we had in Lisbon!

This place looks super cool, but I would recommend trying another place in the general area. I'm…read morenot sure if it was because the holiday (New Years) had just passed, but the meal started with a list of what was NOT available which was more than a quarter of the menu -- which also included no white wine by the glass and no beer. The white sangria pitcher was almost too bitter to drink. The croquettes were a tasty starter -- but the cheese wrapped in filo dough was a non-starter. The beet risotto was pleasant but not necessarily memorable. The Hot Cold dessert was a big disappointment. It has beautiful presentation, but we could not finish even the small dessert. Our service was less than ideal. The restaurant was not full, yet you could see their intense stress levels. With the high quality of dinners we'd had for similar and even lower price in the area, we really expected a lot more.

This is an excellent Portuguese restaurant for local beef and seafood. The menu is typically…read morePortuguese, which means straight forward and lacking any complexity from the Colombian exchange. Potatoes are from the Andes, and all chili peppers are from Meso-America. It was the Portuguese who took chili peppers to India and Thailandia, and those chilis help define those gastronomies, but the Portuguese had little interest in adopting some of those flavors to their own food. Almost everything is grilled or fried fish with olive oil and salt. We enjoyed our food, but I missed a little greater complexity of flavors. Potatoes are boiled. The service was excellent and genuinely warm. Deserts were uninspired. There is so much you can do with local ingredients. There is no local foodie culture in São Miguel. We humbly respect other's lives and choices, but I would certainly have enjoyed some culinary creativity.

Cozido das caldeiras: Furnas stew cooked for many hours using the volcanic geothermal soil. The stew contains pork, beef, chicken, sausage, blood sausage, greens, potatos, and carrots. Really good hearty and homey feels. The meat and vegetables are super tender and flavorful. Grilled octopus: a whole octopus cooked perfectly with garlic and oil. Grilled limpets: Local mollusk that reminded me of mussel/clams cooked with garlic and butter. They were a little bit chewier than I would prefer but cool to try. Old fashioned codfish: fried fish with a tangy sauce. Super delicious! Beef steak: this one was okay if you want meat, but I think the seafood is much better here! Save room for dessert!! Started off with some calamari and Sao Jorge cheese with bread. The calamari wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was tender and fresh and very light. The Sao Jorge cheese may be the best I have had. By the time it gets to the United States it's certainly a HARD cheese, but this was soft and almost spreadable on the bread. Delicious. The menu here is massive. They had about 6 different Portuguese steak options, but I went for the classic with egg and peppers. I do with there were more red peppers on my steak, but I appreciate the hefty amounts of garlic and sauce. The steak itself was cooked perfectly to medium rare and tender. I'm not a big steak girlie but I ate the whole thing in no time. The bottle of wine certainly helped it go down easily. Finished the meal with a chocolate crepe, which I can still taste as I type this. Loved this place and will come back every time I am in Ponta Delgada.
