This is my favorite hot yoga studio in St. Louis! I tried 6-10 before I found this place. That being said, this is a very specific type of hot yoga. You will sweat until your entire body and hair is dripping because it's super hot and humid in the room. You will hear some calming music at more slow paced times in the class and loud pump up music during fast paced times in the class. You will be working so hard you will likely have to rest throughout the class. It's not easy and that's why I love it. You will feel like you conquered a difficult workout after this class. This class pushes you and I've noticed significant improvement in my flexibility and ability to hold several yoga poses. I also believe hot yoga has significantly helped my mental health. I can't worry about anything else in the world when I'm working so hard in this class. This studio is also very well kept and clean which I appreciate. I've been going to afternoon classes since I moved here a few months ago. The effort level, heat and attendance are all great. I feel like I get an awesome workout. I would love to keep coming back here. BUT, the music is *unbareable.* Imagine gynecologist waiting room adult contemporary played so loud the instructor has to scream, but you still can't hear them over the soft singing and acoustic guitar. This music may be appropriate for a coffeehouse, but not a workout, and it's played *unbelievably* loud. Like paint peeling off the walls loud. It makes you feel sick. You're trying to get into your flow, but all you can think about is how terrible the music is and how bad it hurts your head. The music is so assaulting on your senses that it makes working out nearly impossible. You will be nauseous from the heat and literally *the* worst music you've ever heard in your life. Other than the music, it's not bad. There seems to be a good crowd, which means it's a bit crowded at times and some of the people seem a bit standoffish. They have a good level of heat and a difficult enough routine where you would feel good, if you're ears weren't ringing. Until they hire someone with the sense not to blast easy listening like their trying to dispurse a riot, I would AVOID THIS PLACE. read more

If you are a yoga purist, this is not for you! One of the worst yoga classes I've ever experienced! Someone should remind the owner of this place that yoga is a meditative practice that involves deep stretching. It does not involve music so blaring and loud, you can't hear the instructor's directions. I originally went bc I enjoy hot yoga and this place was the closest to my house, but yoga poses without a reasonable time to hold the pose in an extremely hot room does not make for a healing and meditative practice. You are basically doing quick, dance-like moves in 160 degrees. Yes, you will sweat but not bc you are engaged in deep , holistic, stretching. You are just in a hot, dark room, with excessively loud music. Very disappointed. read more

Completely fell in love with the "Sumits Express" class after coming to the classes for 3 times. Through the hot yoga classes, I have achieved both detox, spine adjustment and stretching. I feel better and sleep better at night now. A few tips for people wanting to try out Sumits Hot Yoga studio: 1) The studio gets really packed sometimes. Try to come at least 15 mins ahead of the class and "reserve" a spot with your yoga mat. 2) A yoga mat and a towel are required for the class. You can rent that for $3 at the front desk. 3) The temperature inside the class gets up to 105F. The instructors normally open the door a few times during the class to let in some cool air; which is heaven for me especially at my first class. For new comers, I recommend finding a spot next to the door. 4) Make sure to bring a large bottle of water and stay hydrated. Do not worry to lie down or ask for a cold towel when you feel a little overheated. read more

Tonight was my first time at a Sumit Yoga. I thought I was going to a bikram yoga class, but it is definitely very different. Some of the same poses, but definitely more of a workout class. I love going to Sumits for hot yoga. I've been going for a few years and it a great workout and perfect place to sweat a lot. I haven't been able to find a place that compares in terms of temperature and flow. However - a few things have been adding up lately that are not so great. First, I believe that they started this for COVID but you have to wait outside until 15 minutes before the class starts. There is no way to prevent the spread of COVID when you're doing hot yoga, so why make everyone wait outside? On top of it, the more frequent yogis some how get inside before everyone else. That leads me to my next point, the vibe can sometimes feel very clicky and not an environment that is centered around yoga. It seems the most frequent goers are there for the workout not the mindfulness. Next, the classes have been starting a few minutes late. This is not a big deal every now and then, but I've noticed its been happening pretty frequently and Sumits is not cheap - I would prefer the class to start on time, not 5 minutes in. A couple of other things that are a bit nit-picky are the shower curtains don't hide you from anything, the water pressure is much worse than the faucet, and there is no water refill station . I much prefer the Columbia, Missouri location over Chesterfield :( read more

I've come here a few times, and it's very welcoming, with nice facilities in the locker room, although the women's bathroom area is pretty cramped after a class. They have showers, with a candle burning in the sink area that helps add some ambiance, which is a nice touch. The classes are challenging each time I've been. The instructors are all great, as I've taken at least five different class times, and instructors- they have all focused on pushing our limits within our practice while still honoring our bodies. The classes are heated and comfortable, and calm, and always clean. My only change for Sumits is the women's bathroom area. I'm assuming a majority of the clientele are female, so it seems like the space problem will exist until the area is build out to accommodate an entire class of women rushing into the locker room at the same time. I've seen a few ladies try to change quickly after their class while standing behind the entry door because no other options exist, and get slightly bumped from the door opening. Looking forward to taking more classes here soon. read more

Seasoned hot yogi here, this place is nasty! You will not leave with peace. No directed flow of breath. They use humidity instead of normal heaters and the room smelled like poop from everyone immediately. Protect your energy. Granted this was my first experience with hot yoga and I did enjoy myself. I will start with the staff, most (not all) were incredibly friendly and polite, Marc was an awesome instructor & the young lady behind the counter was very friendly. My complaint is with the locker room, I use that term loosely since there were no lockers available. I can only attest for the men's side, since that is the one I used. There is a bench with storage underneath for shoes and bags, additionally there are hooks above. Thus would have been fine if there had been less than eight men in the class. At the end of the class you are sweaty! My hands were "pruny" from the amount of liquid awesomeness that I expended. However, there is only one shower, and that is not sufficient. Plus the space is cramped for the amount of people in there. Hint: Expand and you'll get a much higher review. read more

Can't say enough about Sumits! The staff is amazing!! I'm not on my 10th session in a few months and the improvement I have made it amazing. Hot yoga has helped my regular workouts as well. The thing I love about this place is it is truly "no judgement" and they are able to teach to a vary wide variety of skill sets which is super important when you have larger classes. read more

This place has a good beginners intro price, which is why we decided to try it. The staff is helpful and the facilities are good and clean. They have mats for rent, but I find the whole thing of renting mats for $2 annoying - studios nickel and dime you for everything these days. The instructor was great, but it's the kind of place that's white people yoga - where they want a good workout to blasting music and kind of forget the philosophy of yoga itself. The room was obviously hot, but so hot that my sister left halfway through class. Our flow class 'flowed' with blasting music along with the instructor's guidance, and ultimately I felt it was a good workout and was drenched - but it didn't feel like yoga. I'm no yoga guru, but this wasn't what I expected or was looking for. So if you're looking for a more grounded, spiritual yoga practice, keep looking. read more

Give it a try! This is my favorite place for yoga. I really like the music and the temperature. I've been to other places that just aren't very hot. It can be really challenging but in a good way and they really encourage you to take each class at your pace and listen to your body so there is no pressure. It has really helped my heal shoulder & knee injuries. I always leave feeling better than expected. The studio is nice and I love the location. I've never had a workout I crave until now. Always feeling welcomed even when new and unsure. Had not worked out for years, not been a yogi but found I could follow and enjoy the routine. It seems the stronger I become, each pose brings new challenges and works every muscle in the body. My arms have gone from puffed to defined!! I LOVE the music!!! Each instructor brings their own unique energy and spirit to each class. All body types and levels. So often hear that someone has driven from the Hill or Washington, MO just for this Studio. While the employees there are very nice, this is definately not the place to go to relax and unwind. Yoga to me is where the mind & body meet in perfect harmony. This place is where Ozzy Osbourne meets Sharon in a zoo! The lights go up & down, the doors open & close, allowing the temperature to constantly change, the music is blaring, going up & down, with the teacher screaming most of the time. The floors are pretty hard, and the heating units are quite loud when they "click" on & off. The lobby area is clean & refreshing when you walk in, though. I was going to buy a Groupon, but they told me that they have a deal worked out with Groupon, that they could accept that price at the door. DON'T BUY IT THIS WAY! By doing this, you have no recourse with Groupon. Be careful! If you don't like this style of class, they will absolutely not give you any type of refund. They do have a couple of other classes to choose from, but for the extra miles & the way they do business, I most certainly will take my business to places that know how to do it the right way! read more
