Maybe 1 Star... I'm Still Recovering As I was walking into Sully's on Ming, the one combined with Smith's Bakery, I overheard the manager talking to the cashier about a really nice review they had recently received online. They were talking about how professionally written it was and how excited they were about it. Naturally, I decided I needed to restore balance to the universe. I jokingly told the staff, "Well, I'm going online right now and giving you guys a ONE-STAR review. Because, as the Jedi always say, there must be balance in the Force." The staff behind the counter got a really good laugh out of that. Unfortunately, that's when things took a turn. The manager looked me dead in the eyes. I looked at her. She looked at me. And then... WE FOUGHT. What started as a simple joke about a one-star review immediately escalated into what can only be described as the most epic battle Sully's on Ming has ever witnessed. She unleashed her ancient Kung Fu powers. I attempted to defend myself using the only martial-arts technique I knew: panic. She hit me with a spinning back kick. I countered with the legendary "I'm Just Here to Buy Something" maneuver. She jumped over the counter. I dove behind the bakery section. Flour was flying. Chairs were flipping. Someone yelled, "NOT THE MUFFINS!" At one point, I swear I saw the spirit of Bruce Lee appear in the reflection of the freezer door and quietly shake his head at both of us. The battle raged on for what felt like seven seasons of an anime. Eventually, bruised, exhausted, and questioning every decision that had led me to this moment, I managed to escape with my life. But more importantly... I STILL WROTE THE REVIEW. And after everything I have been through, I have come to one undeniable conclusion: Five stars. Or maybe one star. Honestly, I'm not sure. The manager might have actually won. P.S. In all seriousness, the store team has always treated me professionally and respectfully every time I come in, whether I'm dressed for the office or dressed like I randomly decided to go play basketball on a weekday. Great facility, great team, and the bathrooms are always very clean. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff and the store. Five stars... a.k.a. maybe one star. I always enjoy stopping by Sully's. I love how they carry so many locally sourced produces from local businesses, especially those local businesses without traditional storefronts. On this most recent trip, I grabbed some Smith's smiley face cookies while putting some air in my tires. The perfect treat to reward myself for being a responsible motorist. Getting air was easy. Air is free at any California gas station and the Sully's staff were super nice when I asked them to turn on the air machine. The machine provided me with ample time to get all four tires to the right psi, and the parking spot makes it easy to reach all four tires with the hose. Though the lighting at the air pump parking spot can be a little tough at night, so I would recommend going in the day time for both visibility and safety reasons. read more

I don't come to this Sully's a lot, but I'm always within this vicinity for some other reason. This one is located in the SW off of Buena Vista and Ming. This gas station is not your normal gas station. They have a little bit of everything in here. My favorite thing about this Sully's is the Smith's bakery inside. Yes I know, Smith's is everyone's reminder of their childhood in Bakersfield... but for some reason I never get tired of the champagne cupcake. It's my favorite here. Other than the goodies from Smith's you can find deals on the energy drinks and also you get a little small reward if you sign up and get a Sully's card. It's kind of a little coupon card basically. I'm not an energy drink person, but I'll get it from time to time for my husband or my oldest son. This facility is clean and the staff is really nice. My last visit here everyone was super cheerful early in the morning. Very nice way take start your day is to visit an establishment where everyone makes you feel like they are happy you came to visit. You don't see that often, but it makes you want to continue to come back and support this place. read more

Clean (spotless restrooms), friendly counter service and wow, do they carry a lot of cool, useful local grocery products! Think spices from Lengthwise, Pappy's, Ray's... local honey, olive oils, Pyrenees bread, Murray Farms preserves. Luigi's pasta sauce and hot sauce. Dewar's ice cream and many flavors at that - they even carry the low-fat varieties! A lot of thought goes into this store and it is my fave pitstop for gas/snacks in Bakersfield. We always buy gas at Chevron anyways so this works out great! They have a huge supply of drinks, liquor and beer. Even fruit! There is a bakery within the store too! Everything is well laid out in a nice sized space and it never feels cramped. A one-stop shop for sure. Especially if you need local souvenirs! read more

Great neighborhood market. They have fresh produce, cheeses, snacks and a large beer cave. I like what they're doing with the place. They are going to have a smiths bakery in the store, they have packaged snacks from cafe med like egg plant lasagna, hummus, and pita bread. They are planning on having a deli in store making fresh sandwiches and they are trying to get it to be a local deli like they did with smiths. Also service has been very friendly and informative. Good gas station, clean, well lit, decent prices for a chevron (still high) and they are staffed 24hrs a day. read more

Why Sully's versus another convenience store? Well.... because the selection is better than any! Who else has a great beer selection and expansive wine selection. I know I am writing this review for the Ming location, but seriously, all of them are superb! the food selection is great, from healthy to junk, they really have it all. great local items like a bakery which yummy Smith's cookies. This place is my first stop when returning from out of town. It's a great place to pick up a bottle of Tobin James wine and some light snacks. The staff is top-notch.... Oh and did I mention that the bathrooms are always really clean and well stocked?? Bet most places don't have that box checked... This business does not follow state, federal or CDC guidelines concerning COVID-19. Wearing a mask that only covers your mouth while checking people out is honestly painful at this point. First, let me say I normally love Sully's. In fact, I usually stop by at least once a week to pick up small grocery type items and gas. With that said, the past 3 times I have been there, I have felt very uncomfortable. The first time, there was a customer without a mask. Ok, that is on them. But then the cashier starting talking to them and saying she hates masks too and took hers off. Same type of thing on the 2nd visit. This last time, I stopped by on a Friday evening and it was busy. I counted 6 customers without masks. Both in front of me in line and behind. No distancing. No masks. And not one employee said one thing to anyone. I work in the service industry. I know it is difficult but you are allowing this. Encouraging it. Your choice. But I will not be back. read more

Christmas Day, went to exchange propane tank and get a new one. Lady said, there is a national shortage and prices have gone up. $35 for exchange and $80 for new one. Had to have it so I paid. Next day son in law found several places in Bak for half. I live across the street and stopped buying my gas there because of inflated prices and cc charges. Always try to buy local, but done with this place!! read more

Being a Chevron card holder I visit Sully's often and seriously EVERY. TIME. IM. HERE. they have pumps bagged off. Right now, at 5 pm, Prime Time, six pumps out of sixteen aren't working. Then my Chevron Card wouldn't work at three of the pumps so I had to go inside. What the heck is going on at this place!!? read more

I want to preface this review by saying that I've never bought gas here because it's pricier than most Chevrons, hence it loses a star. The store carries several items made by local restaurants/businesses. I usually come here for the Brother Ray's Devil's Den salsa. The beer selection is surprisingly good. Every now and then they'll bring in some stuff from smaller breweries from around the state. This place is truly a gem! I recently went inside and much to my surprise, I found this place to be stocked with everything a person could want or need. Sully's has an extensive amount of nice wines and beers. They even have a walk in cooler for their specialty beers! What a nice gas station convenient store! And Bako knows how to do it too. This place is kind of like a Brookside. They have a large wine selection and a beer cave--so cool you must see and feel the chilliness inside. They also had a variety of treats as well as some fresh grocery goods. This is a great place to go! So very conveniently located and open 24 hours. The area needed a closer gas station/convenience store. The bright shining star at this place is the beer cave. Huge huge HUGE selection of many local, domestic, and import big brand and craft beer. In addition to the beer, there's an excellent selection of wine and liquor. something for everyone! There's also a Smith's bakery which has all the tasty favorites that Bakersfield loves. Every time I go in here, I am verbally greeted by the staff. A small gesture that goes a long way in making customers into "regulars". I know they have no control over the gas prices, but that's why I buy gas elsewhere. Sure, it's a gas station, and a pricey one at that (but that's the price you pay for convenience), but this convenience store is awesome!! The beer cave and fridges are worth a visit by itself. We found beers here that we're only available for export (Guinness Extra Stout) and beers I'd never seen before (special Sam Adams and Shocktop varieties). They also have a small Smith's bakery section, which always seems to be sold out or closed whenever I go. On the counter, you can find newer flavors of Dewars chews that you can buy by the piece and that aren't available at the Dewars across the street. This is more than a gas station. It's like a luxury gas station. A gas station on steroids? I don't condone drug use, but this place is pretty juiced up. Smith's Cookies, Dewars, a beer cave the size of my living room, pro-donuts, Cafe Med goodies, Luigi's sauces, a small produce section, grab n go meals (that are also supportive of smaller waistlines) and tons of fancy snack options.....sells me every time. I like the convenience of location to my home and that they are always open. Prior to Sully's, you had to go to Brookside before they closed at dusk, holiday's, or pretty much any other reason to close or close early. Not a happy camper this morning, 10/8/18. I was in a hurry and needed some diesel fuel for my pickup. At 0300 hours there was only one other pickup gassing up and was using the diesel pumps at the east end of the station. Both diesel pumps on the west side of the station were not working properly. On the one side it would not pump any diesel fuel and there was no sign indicating this. On the other side of the same pump where I had to drive my truck and trailer around to the diesel fuel was dispensing so slow it took 7 minutes to get 2 gallons. I gave up and left. My complaint is that at that time of the morning when it is slow I would think the employees would have time to check the pumps to ensure they are working properly. read more
