Days Inn by Wyndham Sullivan - Guest room

If I was able to leave zero stars for this motel, I would…read more My mother and I stayed here while visiting family (family didn't have the extra space and next hotel of any sort is at least 25 minutes away in either direction). We stayed 4 nights. On night one, we noticed bugs in the room and dead bugs in the window tract. Spoke with the woman in charge, she immediately came to check it out and cleaned it right away. On night 2, we found out the bugs were stink bugs and seasonal from corn cropping. No problem. I get that. Just not in the room. On night 2, I found one in my bed, I went downstairs and spoke to the man in charge, he said we can either switch rooms or check out, I proceeded to tell him my family doesn't have extra space and if the bugs come in through the window and when doors are opened, what would be the difference in changing rooms. After all of that, I asked if we could be comped one night of stay, the guy and the woman both said no and that we could change rooms or check out. By far the west experience I've ever had at any motel.

This is an average budget hotel. I did not have any major complaints. Stayed here solo for a work…read moretrip. I stayed two nights in two separate rooms. Day 1 was 2 queen, day 2 was one king. Just how it worked out. Upon check-in, I was met with a friendly staff member who made the process quick and easy. This hotel does not have an elevator. If you are not handicapped but do not do well with stairs, let the hotel know at check in or booking and I'm sure they can accommodate you with a room on the first floor. My room was in good condition. The first thing I noticed, however, was how hot and humid my room was. The A/C cooled the room to a comfortable temperature within a half an hour. I wish they'd keep the A/C on at least a little bit - it usually takes more energy to cool a room completely than to keep it a reasonable temperature. There was water all over the bathroom caused by the humidity. Room ameneties included a microwave and mini fridge, which is great for a basic room. For toiletries, I was given one bar of soap and one bottle of shampoo. Didn't like that. What are we supposed to shower with if one is for washing our hands? Bed linens were bright white. The bed was hard and not very comfortable. Have you ever flushed a toilet on an airplane? That's how fast these toilets flush. Fair warning. Prepare Uranus. Another fair warning: if you're here and plan to get it on, the walls are very thin. My neighbors kept me up by laughing and making rooster noises at 10pm for some reason. Like, literally "COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO!!!!" Ignoring the excessive poultry enthusiasts next door, I was convinced I could probably hear a gnat fart on the other side of the paper thin wall. Coughing, sneezing, you can hear it all. I'll be honest with you, the Sullivan area sucks. There's a Burger King, McDonald's, Hardee's, and Walmart within the immediate vicinity, but that's pretty much it. You'll have to travel 25 minutes to even get to a Taco Bell, so get in the mindset of thinking inside the bun. If you want entertainment, head across the street and watch the locals at Walmart. Good stuff there. (This section did not factor into my star rating as Days Inn has no control over the local area) Breakfast was decent Coffee, OJ, muffins, yogurt, and cereal is what I saw. Only had some coffee though, but everything looked good. On Day 2, the check-in staff member was a little less friendly, but that's ok. If for some unfortunate reason I have to visit the Sullivan area again, I'd stay here again. Not that I have a choice, it's all Sullivan has to offer in terms of accommodations. No major complaints, just minor inconveniences. Pros: Friendly staff, good breakfast, microwave and mini fridge, CLEAN ROOMS Cons: Sullivan, only gave one bar of soap, uncomfortable bed, hot and humid room upon check in

West Baden Springs Hotel - Newly renovated bowling alley

West Baden has now become a regular family destination. My family -- plus my mom, stepdad, siblings…read moreand their families -- just finished our second trip here. And it's safe to say that West Baden is now a family tradition. My parents spent a few days there to celebrate their anniversary, and then the kids all came to stay the last night, during Easter weekend. And we made the most of it. We started with bowling and pizza at the new Ballard's at the Atrium (see my review on that). My older niece then watched all the kids in one of the hotel rooms, while the adults got a drink in the expansive atrium and enjoyed looking up at the picturesque dome ceiling. The next morning, which was Easter, we found a quiet sitting area on our floor to have an Easter egg hunt with all the kids. These are memories we will cherish. We popped over to French Lick for brunch, though the Easter brunch set up in the atrium definitely looked delicious too. The staff is always excellent. We were able to call and get all of our rooms next to each other, which helped. Thanks for another fabulous mini-vacation, West Baden!

A really cool historic hotel. I visited with my husband and children, 13 and 10, as well as our…read moresmall dog, over Martin Luther King weekend. For a property seeming to target the upper middle market, I think there is a lot of value. They have many free amenities that most no longer do - no resort fee, no parking fee, free shuttle to the sister hotel and downtown. I also feel the pricing at restaurants is somewhat reasonable, particularly at happy hour. Add in amenities closer to a luxury property - evening music, nice indoor pool almost always open, and obviously just being in the unique dome... This is a winner. We found the service to be consistently friendly. We had no issues with getting help for our large amount of stuff at check in or check out. Very nice to our dog and he got a lot of treats for the pet fee. Dining service was on the slower side but seemed to fit the vibe. We stayed in a suite with two queens. It was large. The furniture was on the worn side but well maintained. Nice to see unique furnishings vs generic all white everywhere. Plenty for the kids to do. We enjoyed the newly restored bowling alley and found it nicer than the same priced one at French Lick Hotel. We did like going to French Lick for the shopping and to read about the history. There is a lot about the history everywhere, including the small museum (a large room) in the hotel. We were very happy and would like to return.

This is not a Bed and Breakfast, no breakfast voucher either - so forget anything you read otherwise - I complained about the sign that was even in the window as you walked in stating Bed and Breakfast, which they did remove the next day. Speaking of walking in - I had to push the automatic door to the lobby open (they did fix that the next day) only to find a kiosk virtual front desk (from a different town/state who knows where, that had to call about everything that required attention). After we had drove a few hours, we did get a text to warn us that the elevator was broken (so check on that before you go, because it was still broke when we left). I had booked a room specific to 2nd floor, as my wife has some trouble with stairs after hip surgery (none on first floor, and 3rd floor only has stair access). After the steep climb with luggage (We heard some poor soul struggling to get luggage up the stairs and thought he was going to have a heart attack, but he made it before I was able to get out to help). We got settled in, but before the day was over... the TV quit working. Mr. kiosk suggested the typical things (reboot etc...) that I had already tried and had to show him a picture of the screen that showed it had no connection. He said they would have someone fix the next day after treating me like I did not know anything (I worked in IT over 40 years, I can tell when a Roku cannot connect to a network). Next day, after being out all day, came in to relax - no TV still, Mr. Kiosk said we could move to another room... OK we pack up and move to a new room, and it is super cold, go to Mr. Kiosk again because we could not find a thermostat, his solution ... we move to another room that has a thermostat we can adjust on the third floor - no - we are tired we don't want to lug up another flight of stairs, we will just get out another blanket. We did get a call at that point, and I was told the thermostat is currently in another room for the whole floor, but I can go and adjust (got there and it was set to 66), so we finally was able to settle in and watch TV for the night. (They are planning on making changes to have individual controlled, but something you might want to consider). The last day was better, but not sure we will be back even though we did like the room itself. Definitely, buyer beware - ask before booking.

However, I want to especially thank Erin. She was on duty the night of 3/4/26. After I arrived home from my visit, I thought that I left an expensive water bottle in the room. I called the hotel and got Erin. She was very pleasant and understanding. She immediately stopped whatever she was doing to search for my property. When she was unable to locate it, she contacted me to let me know. She didn't stop there. Understanding the value of the bottle and the urgency, she continued to search for it with no luck. Ultimately, I located the bottle in a different bag that hadn't unpacked yet. Although I was happy that I found it, I felt bad for sending Erin on a wild goose chase. I did call back to let her know and to apologize. She was so sweet and pleasant. She wasn't bothered by it at all. She was simply glad that I found it. She continued thanking me for the stay at the hotel and hoped I would keep the hotel in mind for future stays. Because of this, I definitely will. I will also recommend this location to friends and family.
